Title: Your favourite "easy to make" dish!
Post by: X-F3R on June 06, 2005, 11:36:44 AM
well, reason why i'm reviving this is because i'm currently living in my aunt's place. and she and my cousin go to the province for a week or so every now and then, so i'm left alone in the house (it's a good thing, actually XD) and all the recipes i know are dishes that take too long to make. i'm a lazy bloke so sometimes the onions are too big, bell peppers are too long.. etc.. so hey! post your mouth watering dishes here, and how to make them >:) i'll post mine later.. POST AWAYYYYYY~ :D

Okay, you asked. I make this all the time. It's not exactly quick, but it's damn tasty.

Dragonium's Huntsman Pie

You need...

110g Plain Flour
50g Softened Butter
A little water
1 Tin Stewed Steak
1 Tin New Potatoes
A few chopped Chillis (Use Carrots if you prefer)

Start by hammering the Flour and Butter Together until it turns like dry crumbs. Once you get a dry crumby texture, throw in about a tablespoon of water. Add more if you have a little more flour. Once that's done, keep kneading it until you get a ball of dough. It shouldn't be too tough or too watery, just nice and squashy.
Then, take it, roll it flat, and grab a nicely sized bowl. The bigger the better. I recommend a proper pie dish, but a large bowl is good if you don't have one. Basically, the next bit is easy. Just use the dough to line the dish, so that you still have enough for the lid. If you used the amounts of ingredients I specified, you should have just enough. Once the dish is lined, open your cans. Put everything in, but make sure you don't put the Chillis/Carrots in first, or they'll burn. I recommend putting the meat in. Finally, use the rest of your pastry to make a nice lid for your pie.
Finally, whack it in the oven. I usually cook them at 200 degrees for around 25-30 minutes. That might be too much, I've forgotten. Anyway, if you're not sure, just cook it on 200 until it's nice and golden brown all over. Don't worry if the lid gets all lumpy, that's just it sinking over the filling while it's cooked. Once that's done, just sit yourself down and enjoy. Damn good eatin'.

I'm sorry if I haven't explained it very well; it'll make itself pretty self-explanitory if you decide to try it. And sorry if it's not as quick as you'd like. I can prepare one in about 11 minutes, and then it just needs cooking. Just ask if you'd like something different.

Home made French fries! all you need is some potatoes, a knife to peel and cut them, some cooking fat and a fat fryer of frying pan!

Hobo Delight

3 hotdogs
1 kaiser roll
1 piece processed cheese slice

Grill the three hotdogs for a while, when done, cut kaiser roll in half and place the weenies inside and put the cheese slice on top of the hotdogs. Good for those on the go looking to avoid vagrancy charges. High tail it outta there when people smell propane from their back yard.

Pop-tarts..

Toasting Instructions
1. Remove Pastry from pouch.
2. Warm pastry in toasting appliance at lowest or lightest heat setting for one heating cycle only.
3. Cool briefly before carefully removing pastry from toasting appliance.

Microwave Instructions (microwave pop tarts?..>_<;..does not compute..)
1. Remove pastry from pouch. Place pastry on microwave-safe plate.
2. Microwave on high setting for 3 seconds.
3. Cool briefly before handling.

What detailed instructions their box contains...
I can't see anyone needing to resort looking at these instructions..

"Well.. got the pastry out of the pouch.. now what?"
>_>

There are some easy-to-make-mixes in stores, or at least here in Holland. Now we can easily make Risotto, Paella, that sort of junk, which by the way is yummy. Try one. It only takes like, a half hour to make it.

Don't rush cooking.

me <3 tomi.. big time XD

i'll try all those posted soon XD Hobo Delight sounds like a good day starter.. i just have to find (out what) a kaiser roll (is) :P

HK Style Fried Rice:
One Large Onion (chopped into tiny bits)
A few cloves of Garlic (chopped into tiny bits)
2-3 tablespoons of oil
A medium sized bowl of rice (newly cooked so it'll be moist)
Shrimps, Prawns (what's the diff?.. ooh.. and not a requirement)
a few slices of ham (the thin ones.. not the leg sized ones u have on christmas eve)
mixed veggies (u know.. those frozen packs u buy with corn, peas and carrots)
Soy Sauce or Salt
1 or 2 eggs

i know fried rice has always been cooked with left over rice.. but for me, whenever someone uses left over rice to cook fried rice, it's always too dry.. it leaves me feeling uncomfortable afterwards. that's why we're gonna use newly cooked rice.

first, saute the onion and garlic until the onions look like their loosing their color (first it's all whitey and stuff, then it goes semi transparent. it means they're cooked).
put in the ham, shrimps and veggies. fry until cooked.
add in the rice, toss it around from time to time, then add a pinch of salt or some soy sauce until u think it's enough.
clear the center are of the pan or wok or whatever it is you're using (make the bottom visible), add in a teaspoon of oil in that area and put the 2 eggs in. let the 2 eggs fry a bit and then mix it like crazy. serve at once cuz it'll loose it's moisty texture.

btw, i take my time when frying the onions, garlic.. etc.. but when the rice is put in, that's when i hurry. if u fry the rice for too long, it gets pretty hard so it's like u still used left over rice. so when the rice is in, u just want it to absorb the taste of all the other ingredients and still be moist.

usually takes my 10 mins to prepare these.
