i just felt like telling everyone that i am currently working on a chipset generator.
i fond it so annoying when i have chips in one chipset that i need for my game, whereas there are others in other chipsets.
aswell you can import your own chipsets too.
tell me if you have any ideas, as i would like to hear!
-
How would it work? Explain a little of it. I don't find a way of how that can work.
-
yeah...
-
It Sounds Like a good idea .. but what are you using to make it?
-
im using macromedia flash right now. i simply set it so you have a bar at the side with all the chips, and when you click on one, it puts it into the image.
-
That doesn't sound like it would work too great...
-
i know flash has a bad reputation, but thats only the opinions of the people who dont know how to use it. once you do, however, it can be used for a great many things.
anywhoo if you have any doubts, heres a picture to give you an idea...
-
oops, forgot the image!
-
Seem to know what your doing.
-
I'm just saying that the flash thing might not work that great. I never said it had a bad rep or anything. Its just that, that fact that certain chips have to go into certain places, and crap like that, might mess you up.
-
not to worry! im planning to set it up so that you click on the chip in the bar, and it automaticaly finds the best place to put itself.
-
So if spot A is taken, the chip will automatically go to spot B??
-
yup!
-
I know absolutely nothing about Flash, but it's looking pretty awesome! Good luck with it!
-
Sweet. Just hope you've got a MASSIVE amount of chipsets.
-
Flash + bitmaps = trouble
This is from years of fighting with the damn program. If you can find some way to circumvent it's horrible treatment to bitmaps, I take my hat off to you.
-
ive been using flash for two years now, and i have never had a problem with bitmaps. very odd...
-
Have you ever imported a bitmap to the stage? See how distorted it gets? You can see it already in your screenshots, those bitmaps are distorted themselves.
-
the only reason its distorted is because i had to convert the image to a jpg just to put it on the forum. but belive me, it was nothing like that in the program itself.
-
I think he'll pull it off.
-
No, not the JPEG distortion. If you look closely at the tree you can see it's uneven and choppy and stuff. Plus, if you look at all the sprites, the edges are screwed up.
-
Flash + Generating = Trouble.
Unless you figured out a way to actually save the bitmaps with Flash, I wouldn't use it.
-
oh! i see what you mean! not to worry, problem fixed!
-
now, im certian alot of people are wondering how im going to make this work, so ill tell you.
if you use macromedia flash then you know that everything is divided into layers, like this
__________<--buttons
__________<--lines
__________<--chipset
__________<--background
what happens with my chipset generator is, when you click on a button, it imports a pre set image of that particular type of chip and puts it into the chipset layer.
so, to save it, all flash needs to do is save the files on that one layer
__________
__________
__________<--this is the layer that is saved
__________
well there you go, now you know.
-
Save as a file, not into Flash. If you can't save it into a file, such thing is useless.
And i haven't seen any Actionscript command that can write to a file.
-
If you pull it off, and do it well, you will have done a great thing. No-one else (to my knowledge) has made a chipset generator.

Even, better, noone has pulled it off to save a PNG with Flash.
-
Flash? Intersting ... But it looks good so far, Though for somthing like this you'd think it be easier to use Visual Basic. I took a class for VB this year and it seems like a good program for making things like this .... Once I figure out more I'll probally use it to make generators like this.
but Keep up the good work and hope it comes out working like it should it will defanatly make chipsets much easyier. Then all you need is for people to make resorces for it.
and if he does find a way to save the image even if it is not png you can always convert it later. that or Print Screen works ^_~
-
Good luck. I find you brave to work on it while these people hear a being mean against you. Give him a ****ing break and support him.
-
Good luck dude. Cool thing that you're doing, will be a good asset (spelling?) to people. Hopefully you'll pull it off, keep workin hard! :D
OT: I can't believe I fell for that too...-_-'
-
Looking good, at least for me.
And who knows? Enyone could use it as a base to an off-line generator or something.

I'm not being mean, I'm just stating a simple fact.
-
wow! i never thought of using visual basic! well you will be happy to know that thats what my chipset generator is now being made with. and by the way, its quite simple to save an image from flash, so long as its still a bmp and not a vector image.

Well, I'm glad you're switching to Visual Basic.
By the way, would you mind telling how you would save with Flash? With what command that is? I've used Flash for about three to four years or so, and I never saw a save-function.
By the way, small suggestion: layered terrains and water. I hope you know what I mean. It's like, the water with the grass intersection. Now you can like, blend grass with desert with ease.
I'll post an example if you don't understand.
-
good idea! maybe i could add two layers to the water, one for the water itself, and one for the border, ill have to thik about it.
and to answer your question about saving it, i went back and i discoverd a whole bunch of bugs with it, so i just scrapped it alltogether.
-
@#$%! @##! $%#@! #@!
ok, i blew off some steam. i was working on the generator when, guess what? my computer crashed! now i cant find my diles and ill have to start all over! anywhoo, the generator might still be a month or two.
darn :(
-
Aw, that sucks. The screens looked pretty good too.
Have you tried a Windows system restore? That can sometimes bring your files back. It saved my game project twice.
-
Is it just me or do computers have this thing against very good RPGMaker related projects? Anyways, good luck with the project.
-
hmmm if it sucseeds and so i think it will be great, keep working
-
Looks awesome, hope you get it finished :D
try and include some, mac and blue chips for it too.
Here's a Djinn for ya :D
+600 hp
-
I made a design for a chipset gen a long time ago. I even tried to make one myself all I made were skins and gave up, cuz, yeah....
-
How is it coming?
-
its coming ok. i just moved so that migh delay it a bit, but, thats life.
