I have started on my rpg and now im working on the plot. I was wondering if anyone could give some ideas.
It starts off with the main character, Zenix, hes a soldier or some type of special unit and comes across a conspiracy of some sort. Maybe this isnt the best way to go but could anyone tell me another piece or maybe point me in a direction that would sound better. Please do not post anything that doesnt help, like calling me a n00b, for i am already aware of that. Thank you. Any ideas would help.

If you're not very well briefed on politics and what not, maybe a conspiracy isn't the best way to go.
-
Thats true, any ideas on conflicts that could occur?
-
Well, if you're dead set on conspiracy, you could probably pull off a skin-deep one. There's a war, he's a soldier. There was an event that was said to have been caused by side B starting the war, but the hero finds out it may have been by side A in order to start the war.
Maybe side A wanted an individual or a piece of technology held by side B and needed a reason to invade to get the thing. The hero would be on side A, obviously. Perhaps he is a diehard patrioy of side A, but discovering the conspiracy is tough. This could lead to the neccessary internal conflict.
-
Thanks man, thats actually a really good idea. Any ideas on what the names of those sides could be? If not, im sure i can come up with something.
-
You kinda have to deside those, unless you havn't made any store at all so far.

Yea, for a piece of technology, think maybe it could or should be a element like water or some type of mineral?

No, I don't think any typw of supernatural material is the best way to go. Maybe an actual piece of technology. Perhaps it was a machine of war, like a tank or aircraft, and they move in to take it. Remember that to be the most realistic, there would be sides not involved in the war.
Or it could be a person. Maybe someone that is said to have lived for a few hundred years, and side A wants him because they believe he may be something which they can harness for war. I dunno. I'm pullin it out of my ***.

i'd like to think i'm good at story lines ^_^ so i will throw in a few more suggestions, if ya a like them good, if ya don't then thats fine too.
another way ya could add conflict is have it so that once it's been discovered that side A really did start the war the hero will be rather confused, a way to help him decide his path could be that side A killed a loved one of his on their mission of getting the piece of technolgy, (most people tend to use a wife/fiancee or a brother however parents or such could work too)
or as the story goes on he finds out that the bit of technolgy is so powerful it could destroy every living thing and that side A is really trying to take over the world and that he needs to destroy said bit of technolgy, but to me that ones kinda cliche, but just because it's cliche doesn't mean it can't be good lol.
well i hope ya like my suggestions :D

The whole death of a loved one and world domination scheme are really cliched. Instead of having his wife dead, she could be perfectly fine and bearing child, so that's his motivation to go home.
-
Agreed. He needs some reason to save the world - if he has a brother or wife or some sort of close relative still alive, it would give him a reason to save the world, rather than a mad revenge quest, or doing it "because it's the right thing to do".
Also, try to mix it up a bit. If it's some sort of technology, maybe Side B does use it, which causes massive deaths worldwide, so the hero is forced to ally with Side A again to save the world from total destruction. Or, maybe Side A is manipulating the hero into capturing the technology from Side B, so they make up a conspiracy to facilitate this - the real conspiracy involves the unsuspecting hero.
-
Or for a twist, startof making it seem like side A is the 'good' side. Then, once the hero discovers the conspiracy, side A is obviously seen as 'bad'. Later yet, it is found out that side A actually is the 'good' side, for something that needs to be done.
I dunno, here's an example.
Side B has important+powerful person (X).
Side A starts war for reason to invade + kill X
Side B obviously retaliates
Hero joins war on Side A
Hero discovers Side A's sinister plot to muder X.
Hero joins Side B
Hero has internal complex due to country loyalties.
Somehow, it turns out X wants to "destroy world due to extreme emo outlook, that being that living results in pain ans suffering. So, they want to 'liberate' the world by destroying it".
X takes 'control' of Side B by pulling political strings.
Hero joins Side A again.
...
Again, that's just an example.
IMO, plots that are a bit complex are the best, but not too complex. A nice balance is needed.

of course u could always have it set that the hero finds that both sides are evil, and a hero joins a third party of some sort or something, or something along those lines, idk I'm just throwing the thought out there.

not bad but how about instead of joining a third party he gatehrs people he can trust and fights both side A and side B? if he was to become his own leader it might look cooler, plus it could show an increase in strength and growth (maybe even a little depth?) to the char. :corn:
