Title: Sim Rpg Maker
Post by: Saintsword on June 17, 2008, 09:09:09 PM
I recently downloaded Sim Rpg Maker 95 again, and to my surprise, it was amazingly simple to use.
There is just two things I cannot figure out;
1)How to make enemies attack players, right now they just run up and stand in front of the characters.
2) How to make the main character go from the first map to the second without losing experience, the other three characters seem to keep their experience.

If anyone has solved these problems before, please tell me how.

Edit: I found out how to transfer the main character without losing experience, the enemies not attacking is still a problem though.

I dont think many of us are familiar with it.
Perhaps you should try finding a Sim RPG maker forum?

I am, but I figured I'd also ask here since I find that this is the only place that really knows about making games.

we do know a thing or two about it.
But we know how to use 2m2k3, 2k, and sometimes XP

You would be better off finding an english help file or something. But chances are, the  file will suck, and you software has no support. Because...well...because its Illegal.

I tried using SIM-maker once.  I quit after ten minutes because I couldn't figure out importing graphics.  You've inspired me to try it out again though.  Thanks XD

If I find anything out I'll tell you.

Use http://www.spriters-resource.com/ to find graphics, that's more or less the most I can do to help until I figure something out.

To import new graphics you just have to put them in the proper file (D:/SRPG/BMP for me) with the proper name. For battle Characters You just put ca##_###.bmp The first two ## are what number they will be in the battle animations, and the last three are what number the character sprite you are using. For example, I added a mymirdon, it's called ca20_055.bmp, since I added unit_055.bmp as the myrmidon. There is also a ca21_055.bmp for when I add a promotion system. If I wanted to also make it so the mercenary can use the myrmidon battle animation, I'd have to copy ca20_055.bmp and put ca20_056.bmp since the mercernary is unit_056.bmp

If that doesn't make sense I'll try to explain more.

Thanks for the help by the way.

Edit: When using unit_EXA.bmp, the top row is when the unit is standing around. The second is moving up, the third is moving right, the fourth is moving down, and the fifth is moving left.
When trying to insert graphics the best thing to do is stick with the palette otherwise the custom colors show up a black. And Just add one number instead of replacing graphics (unit_055 -> unit_056) there doesn't seem to be a limit on numbers so far. :P
Music files are easy to add, they just have to .mid and put them in the BGM folder, sound effects are .wav and go in the EFS folder.
Remember if you alreadyhaeva  game added you have to add it to the game's BMP/BGM/EFS folder for the game to access it.

Yeh, after awhile of messing around with it (2:00 PM until 3:00 AM >.>) I figured out quite alot of stuff and have a few animations done.  The frames aren't exactly perfectly placed but they work, if you want them ;P  So far mostly just a bunch of explosion effects from Metal Slug.

:p Thanks but I'm working towards a Fire Emblem based game.

When you test out your maps do the enemies attack you or just come near you?

Apparently there's a few different versions of Sim RPG maker 95 around because of different translators, so I'm thinking that could be my problem.

Man, that is so old I'm surprised people still use it especially since there are new and improved game makers out there.

Man, this thread is so old. I'm suprised that people still post in these threads.

Wait, they don't.
