Yeah. We're setting up shop for real and stuff. The unofficial thread (http://www.charas-project.net/forum/index.php?topic=23308.0) is still up for the sake of history (and spam), so never forget. Also, this thread will be only for stuffs involving the work and whatnot.
Anyone who posted an audio clip, it would be lovely if you reposted it here. No, I'm too lazy to hunt all of them down right now. Perhaps later.

Not yet, dude. You are so out of the loop...
-
Do you have any real songs?
PS:Ill delete this post after i get an answer.
Rofl. Soundgasm doesn't write music. We write awesomeness in the form of sound and lyrics.

I guess this is the most we've progressed so far.
Archem added: Drums
Moosetroop added: Bass
Feel free to pitch in. Also, the bass is slightly out of time (partly because I was feeling ill that morning and hadn't been able to sleep). If it's so out of time that it's throwing you off, tell me and I'll redo it.
-
I dunno, when I listened too it, the drums sounded significantly louder than the bass, that kind of threw me off. The drums also sounded very... Computer generated... But thatīs because they were, and thereīs not much we can do about it right now.
And also, maybe itīs just me, but I think there was too much snare. It actually got on my nerves a bit.
Nevertheless, Iīll try to record a guitar part today.
-
Don't worry. Once we get enough stuff together to mix it all, we can change the volume of this and that, blah blah blah. Nothing is permanent until it becomes history.
-
The bass is only really out of time on the first play of the riff, after that it's fine to my ears.
Might be tricky layering a guitar line over it. You want something simple or more complex? I'm eagerly awaiting Uberpwn's stuff. And hey maybe if I go to Matlock tomorrow I'll be able to find a guitar shop which sells adaptors.
(Yeah, we have a town called Matlock. MATLOOOOOOOCK.)
-
Matlock! Guys! We should do a cover of the Matlock theme and release it on an EP called Andy Griffith.
-
Hey MT, can you redo the bass part? It is kinda throwing me off.
And also, I have formulated a new plan. Acoustica Mixcraft 4. Itīll work great for what weīre doing.
Itīs basically a GarageBand clone, but for Windows. Whatīs going on is pretty much like whatīs going on now, except weīre all going to be using the same program, for convenience.
For example: MT records a bass line, and posts it on the forum, everybody checks it out, discusses it, MT maybe makes a few changes... Then Archem gets a hold of it, does a drum part, posts the updated project file on this thread, I do a guitar part, and so on and so forth... Until we have a song.
I think it will really help if we all have one universal studio program. Whoīs with me?
EDIT: Donīt worry about the cost. Iīll take care of that. *winks*
-
Guys. I wrote something epic.
Iīm going to record it tonight.
-
Can't wait to hear it. Don't forget to keep an unmixed version of any tracks you have.
-
We need a kickass tagline. For the YouTube page.
-
Cafepress shop. Easy.

So far, this is the YouTube page.
Please, add the page as a friend.
As for Lucas, I'm thinking of
There will be log rides.

I sent invitation
-
I need to have a helping hand in designing the appearance. The current setup is lacking.
-
PICK ME! *waves hands around franticly*
-
...No, I meant that I need to help him with the appearance. I mean, I guess you can help, but I'm a visionary.
-
Wait. I'm confused now. What do you mean by "appearance"?
-
How the page looks. Y'know. This. (http://soundgasm.cjb.net/)
-
Ah. Actually, Lucas and I spoke via MSN about it.
-
I'll have to talk to him about it as well.
-
We'll all have to have a super secret charas chat meeting.
-
Sure. Let's try to keep things a little less spammy, since this is the "official" thread. Plus, being affiliated with all the spam recently is starting to make me feel guilty.
-
Seriously, the spam is one of the main reasons I've almost give up on this. I'm tired of expected something decent, only to find 3 pages of crap.
-
SERIOUS "LET'S GET SOMETHING DONE" POST!
As ZKX pointed out, we're not really getting much done here... Let's change that.
I'm going to hook everyone here up with Acoustica Mixcraft 4 via PM. What we will be doing with it is very basic, so I will expect everyone will know what to do with it once they have it.
Hopefully this will bring us a bit closer to actually getting a song done. From now on we should keep this thread really organized and tidy.
Now, maybe (hopefully) tomorrow I will record something. Then maybe (hopefully) I can get everybody else's cooperation to do their parts.
-
If someone can tell me the chords used in the file mt11 has up, i can get some piano chords in. Or if you really want, I could probably add some Epic Bassoon in. If so, it won't happen 'til at least two weeks from now.
-
Is it okay if I just use soundfonts and convert from MIDIs? I don't have any cables to hook my keyboard up to my computer.
-
Do we really have to download that software? I just got used to audacity :(
-

They're not chords, it's bass. However I did manage to tab it out if you can read guitar tab.
G||--------------------------------|-------------------|
D||----------------8--6-4h-6p-4----|-------------------|
A||--6--6-------4---------------6--|-------------------|
E||--------4-6---------------------|-------------------|
Beat-by-beat, it goes D#, G#, C#, D#. That's if I've figured it out properly which most likely I haven't.
Still no luck getting an adaptor.
@coasterkrazy: It'd sound better with real sound, but MIDI may be the only option. Is your keyboard a MIDI keyboard? If so you may as well use Soundfonts.
-
Ah, yes, I meant the notes, I was going to create chords from it, thanks drag, I would not have know what that was if you would have just kept the tabs there. o.o
I'll try those and see if it works.
-
I do everything in tab. I'm terrible with sheet music.
-
*Yawn* I've been a bit out of the loop and my eye hurts. What's up?
I guess I'll download Mixcraft 3 or whatever...
-

Yeah, it is a MIDI keyboard. :| It does have XG though, which is better than GM. Still though, Soundfonts can often be better than XG... Hmm... Well it's all Synth anyway.
-

Give that tab a look over and see if I got it right, there's a good chap. :P

If it's a MIDI keyboard there's no point in choosing it over Soundfonts because they're both going to sound virtually the same. May as well do it with Soundfonts for convenience.
-
In any case, we have you listed as the keyboardist, so MIDI is perfectly fine for your work. Of course, if you want to do more than that, be my guest.
-
Okay, that's what I'll do. I'll add to the song we have tomorrow (which is technically later today).
-
Maybe we should start a song with an easier rhythm so everyone can play the thing >.>
And Zerlina... I have no idea. Maybe Audacity will be fine. I like Audacity too.
-
That rhythm made me cringe when I heard it. I was like... o.o that could be a challenge.
EDIT:
I didn't mean cringe as in terrible, I meant as in "what the hell is the rhythm????"
... I guess ??? (???) is the same as :( [ :( ]now?
-
Oh, right! We're supposed to be doing things! Uberpwn, where's that guitaring of yours at?
Oh wait, you're not here...
-
Story continuation: there is roughly a 60% chance that I will be capable of recording by this time tomorrow.
That depends on if the recording equipment I've seen somewhere and I can't remember where is at the guitar shop I've been visiting lately.
On the rhythm thing, maybe we should start with something easier to get into our stride, otherwise this band thing is destined to fail.
-
But it will live forever as win, no matter how it ends.
-
We haven't done anything.
Make a drum track. Make an intro, then a verse, then a chorus, then the verse, then the chorus, then a breakdown, then a solo backing, then the chorus, then the chorus.
Do it, faggot.
-
Fine, jeez.
-
Just trying to motivate you a little. :P
... I love you man.
-
I know, I know.
I love you, too.
-
I have a guitar interface for recording and am currently figuring everything out. Recordings are coming soon.
-
I've scrapped the drum track I had been working on. It just wasn't working out. The new one I'm working on sounds better, though, so I guess that's good.
-
Recording is working, but so far I've done nothing worth uploading. Seems I need some practice keeping in time with the drum track.
Been doing some simple Nirvana-style chord stuff. I really think we need to start off simple.
Getting some awesome sounds.
-
Simple is always good. As long as there's something interesting to listen to, the song's complexity is a pretty unimportant point.
-
I'm gonna leave it until tomorrow. There's too much to fiddle with, and I need to work on getting things in rhythm, and such. Besides we don't have a lot to go on at the moment.
-
Here's the new drum track I'm working on. Try and see what you can do with it.
All of you.

-
sounds good for an intro. I may try to line into my computer or do SOMETHING with it, but I'm honestly very busy this week, recording my band and learning like four songs for another. -_-
-
Those drums were bothering the hell out of me. I'm no better in creativity, but it's the samples that count. :P (http://www.box.net/shared/l323hvpgk8)
NOTE: Yeah, I dunno why there's that silence at the end.
-
I'm not liking this whole "19-second song" thing. :P
We need discernible intros and verses and such. Keep it simple. Think 80's rock. Having one arm is optional.
-
They're called "samples", Draggy. We use them as a base, and build on them.
-

wtf is samples
-
They're samples. Duh.
-
So do we have to pay for the full version or what?
Kinda hard for us to layer instruments over it if we've got 19 seconds to work with.
-
Well, use your imagination, god dammit!
-
you know, if song writing is what is slowing you guys down, you could just do covers of video game music. it's usually pretty simple, and thus easily elaborated upon. Here's a site that has guitar tabs for lots of video game songs, if you like the idea.

I thought of kicking it before. Not sure.
-
It kinda died because we weren't sure there were many people who were actually able to contribute. That and I never bothered recording another bass line.
-
To be honest, I was doing everything I could behind the scenes to try and record all the parts to a song, and then release it some time. Would have surprised the hell out of all of you, but someone had to kick...
Yeah, I actually have been doing things (slowly. One-man bands aren't easy), and I've tried my damnedest to improve on my guitar and bass skills. Singing may be beyond me, and I still lack a drum set.
-
I would like to, actually. I thought about it the other day, the problem is... Right now is a very inconvenient time for me to record anything. My electric guitar isn't working (I have a feeling it's something that can be fixed easily), and even if it was, I'm pretty much permanently banned from the computer. Although, my parents aren't very strict about these things...
And once the guitar works I'm hoping to get an input recorder, so that I don't have to record through the shitty built-in mic, and pick up all the amp buzz and background noise.
So, once I'm ready to contribute, I definitely will.
-
Unfortunately, Apex escaped from my basement, so I don't have an instrument anymore.
-
Still trying to get my hands on a drum set.
*sigh*
-
Awesome. But how are you posting then?
Vacation. Not my computer. :/
-
Maybe you should stop wasting money on games and stuff all the time then?
No u
-
Maybe you should stop wasting money on games and stuff all the time then?
This is a fantastic point. I've spent close to $100 on music for Rock Band over the past three months.
I could have been investing that cash in a real rock band, but nooo. I have to sit around and learn how rainbows make music. Oooh.
-
One piece at a time, my friend.
