I have lots of time, nothing to do, and lots of ideas. i am decent at doing most of anything. I don't work on some other person's project. however i am willing to merge your ideas with mine. I plan on hopefully making a game that we can make some money off of in some way shape or form. with that being said I think you can understand why i only want two other people. a programmer, and an artist.
Programmer: I will want to see an example of you making RPG maker 2003 do something totally out side what it usually can do. Please note i don't want you to show me something that took you a long time to do. Just something only YOU can do and you can do QUICK. within 24 hours would be fine (depending on how big the difference is). don't worry i know a bit about programming, I should be able to figure out how much work a simple alteration took, and how far outside the parameters of RPG maker 2003 it is.
Artist: i will want an example of a complete custom made character for RPG maker 2003 (something you modified 90% of is fine) done from photoshop or paint shop pro. a complete character means: face graphic, Chara set, battle animation, and three custom poses (an alternate face graphic for each would be a great bonus but not necessary).
for each of these example i will want to know how long each took. i am looking for something decent and workable not perfect. also note the possibility of me using these in my game will ONLY occur if you are recruited and by then it won't be my game.. it will be OUR game.
if i seem like a total dick... i am not, i just want dedication, commitment, and to make sure you know that I know what i want. everything expected from you.. I expect at least 150% more of myself. any questions comments or concerns feel free to reply!
p.s. i would like my members to have Skype on their computers so we can work at the same time that way everyone knows what everyone is doing, plus it gives us the ability to discus and improve in real time. thank you !

Gunna level. The only reason I'm not locking this or something is for the lol's.
If you want a programmer and an artist, well, guess what - you're not actually contributing a darn thing to the project. Everyone has "ideas" and everyone think their ideas are great. They're not. Ideas are junk. You can come up with an idea over lunch. Getting down to brass tacks, actually making that idea into reality via programming an art, can take years.
Maybe if you were paying people or somethin'. I dunno.

if your saying that a SINGLE programmer and a SINGLE aritist can make a game... wow thats easy! if you wanted to make a game like say i don't know Final fantasy VI? that would only take you..hm 40 hours a week, creating new animations for each skill, takes at least eight hours to make one whole new sprite, then having the troubleshooting involved ...you talking three years to five?
if you think I am kidding, sometime you should take a look at the credits of a single video game!
a friend of mine actually works witha company, guess what? he made a single peice of games like
halo, legacy of kain sould reaver, and so on.
i am not asking for an artist, so he can do all my art, nor am i asking for a programmer to do all my programming, Thats just stupid. no i want a programmer that i can have work on one thing, an artist to work on another, and then in middle i am doing a bit of both and sounds and script writing and animating, creating charcter stats, and bgm music, and .... well look at a credits sometime, i dobut your going to see 2 names scrool down the game at the end. sure some of those are commercial peoples. but a good chunk of it is simply programmer and artists.
and yeah making money is part of the idea, WHY do you think i want only two people? dividing sales and so more that three times? if this game for somereason doesn't sell? lets say i seel three copies, each game is say... 5 bucks. now deduct the costs of produceing it (for sake of argument lets go a dollar) thats 12 bucks proft dived by three, thats 4 dollars, the game took 6 months to make, thats equivilant to less than a dollar amonth, now to send the money to my partners, that would reduce it down by quite a bit huh? two PARTNERS! i make money
they make money
i don't makke money
neither do they
simple!

oh and by the way....
Due to the recent appearance of many request threads, it's time to have some set-in-stone rules for people who plan to "fulfill" someone else's request. These rules are for anybody who plans to hit this button:<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/AOS18/replybutton.png" width="75" height="19" alt="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/AOS18/replybutton.png" border=0> in a member's request thread. Read carefully, there are only a few, and they're all self-explanatory, but now it seems they have to be said.
1) If you don't plan on doing the request, then don't post. No sarcastic comments (ie. lol i half no lief i do it 4 u k), nothing on how the person stated their request, and please, no "Hey you only have 1 post, introduce yourself first and then request." The newbs and request rule is no longer in effect, there's no rules that say you have to introduce yourself first, etc. In short, if you're not going to do the person's request, then just shut the hell up.
2) Don't hijack someone else's thread. Technically this is a requester's rule, however, since it is in relation to a member posting in someone else's thread, it needs to be said. If you have a request, make your own thread. I don't care if the person who did that member's request is good at what they do and you want to ask them to do something for you, if the request that person had was something similar to yours, or any other reason. You don't post your own request in someone else's.
3) If you had told someone you were going to do their request, but later on for whatever reason are not able to, do us all a favor and tell them this. Otherwise, the requester is going to continue to bump their thread saying "Hey, are you still doing this?" until you do, so there's no sense in not telling them you're not doing it. Just remember, in the long run you're already doing a favor, so there shouldn't be any hard feelings.
In regards to rule 3, if the topic is over a week old and you're afraid of topic kicking, don't worry about it, this rule's an exception. In regards to rules 1 and 2, if either of them are not followed, I'll just delete your post. I'm tired of people's requests being spammed up with nonsense, so from here on it's zero tolerance in that regard. If you continue to ignore it, you'll be warned; and followed by a warn, further action will be taken (ie. almost ban, temp ban, etc). And with that, I leave you to your potential request fulfilling. Have fun helping out. ^^

(facepalms) You know, let's all just take a breather and not insult each other or antagonize each other any further, please and thank you.

I keep losing faith in you guys when this happens when I leave the computer for an hour or so.
My good new member, I'm just gonna be straight here and say that you probably won't be able to find someone who is willing to throw himself out there all vulnerable with some sprites and such here on charas nowdays. Not only is it a neat pre-christmas time in schools - but most dedicated people have begun working on large projects that's siphoning their minds out.
Also, we don't know you, you don't know us. We don't even know what you're planning.
And as the only sensable thing said in this thread.
You can't make money by making a RPGM game. Or any other programs like it. If you want to make money you pretty much have to go deep into the world of programming. 'cuz using a tool such as this would be against those nifty agreement policies that you checked in on during the install.
-
sensable [sic], fine. Next time someone quotes rules at me, that were written by a mod I promoted myself, I'm busting out out the weird HTML tests.
-
i do apologise i am just tired of peole teling how much of an ifiot i am, that being said.... I have to admit, that i kinf og am an idiot. one: i posted the quote hastily i never finished reading it. Two i never really explained my plans so know has any idea. and three i have no idea who everyone is that is posting in this.
all i tried to do was ask for an artist and a programmer. sure i asked for specifics on rpg2003, however, i was only asking for those as EXAMPLES. to see what peole can do. I have a program i was hopefully going to use with conjunction of two other people. someone i could call on for some programming expertise, and an artist for some simple stuff mainly because i don't hae the necessary hardware to run the software.
before i get side tracked. the program i have. i read the licensse agreement on quite thoroughly. as lonf as i remove the basic components that i had to use to make a game with it, there is no legal ramification of making something off of it. then again i may be wrong. as Game maker is a popular system, some one shoudl have mad e something off of it already to make money.
besides that i once mustapologize i am not here to make enemies, i just get really tired of people who make other people who trying to do something feel like idiots. a simple explanation and a redirection would have ben better than making some comment like "the only reason why I am not locking this post down is for lols" quote may not be perfect but you get the idea.
and since i am trying to be nice i will leave it at that.
if the next time i post in these forums and I get similiar treatment, i won't be coming back. not because i am trying to get back at anybody, but just its not worth my time, i can easily find sprites elsewhere.
-
Same here. Next derogatory comment and I'm out of here, Lucas.
You scumbag.
In all seriousness, I could think of a million ideas for games and just ask other people to pour
in loads of hours of artwork and effort, then just give up on the game halfway and let down all
the people involved. People need to see your skill and motivation. Why will people give you a portfolio
when they've not seen your portfolio? You need to prove that you can make progress, stick around,
work well in a team, etc.
Stay for a bit. Give some game renders and sketches, create some character, make a basic system, etc!
-
So you asked for stuff specifically for RPGMaker but it was supposed to be an example of work and skill at large? In addition to being misleading, that's also, well, kinda silly. I can program RPGMaker2003 up and down. But I don't really know much about how to program any other language. Honestly I have a hard time believing the whole "example" thing you just said as it seems like kind of a split decision to try to get away from the legal problems of RPGMaker. But whatever.
The main point is that basically everyone goes through this "I've got a great idea for a game. Now if only I could get some people to help!" phase with RPGMaker. Try to see it from our angle. We get a lot of people like you coming through here, proclaiming how great their visions are and wanting to start a "team" for their game. They, like you, offer no actual substance we can see - no plots, no characters, no programming, or art, no music samples, and then get kind of defensive when we tell them nobody is interested. It's not fun news to break to people. But it's the truth and I believe in the truth so there we are. Don't worry. You'll grow out of it in a few years and feel kind of silly about this whole mess. We won't hold it against you. We don't hold it against anyone else when they do it.
I'm not going to force you to leave but neither am I going to beg you to stay. Sure, you can find sprites elsewhere. But talented artists and programmers willing to spend a year or more of their time to work on someone else's vision without getting paid? Good luck. There is a guy on here named Drakiyth that has been mildly successful at trying to get a team for his game. He's put a thousand times more effort into showing people he was serious than you have. He posted near daily screenshots, explanations of game mechanics, even Youtube vidoes. He got a number of people interested, but even he and his friends seem to be losing steam a few months after starting. Drak himself plays a lot of WoW these days instead of stressing over his game. Hey, it happens. These RPGMaker things are for hobbies, not jobs, especially when nobody is getting paid. If you want to even come close to his level of success, you're going to have to start acting a lot more professionally. Spell checking your posts is a good start. There's a spell check button right below the reply text on this forum, ya know. Posting screenshots and examples of what YOU are actually able to contribute, not just what you say you can do, would also help. And you're gunna have to be creative about how you advertise, too. People have trouble getting others to play FINISHED amateur games. How well are you going to do when you're offering nothing and asking a lot?
Why the hell am I even posting this? You're mad and you won't take the advice seriously, and the next guy like you that comes through here won't read it. I could put something like this in the rules, but they don't read the rules anyway. Well, I guess I'm just venting a little.
I don't think you're an ifiot [sic], but it wouldn't hurt to take a good, long look at how you're presenting yourself and your ideas and decide if there's anything you can try to do better.
-
Well...
The reason why I suggested that you should get to know us, we get to know you is what Sai is trying to say here.
There's been a lot of people showing up and getting teams together, some guy gets the mission to code a hard battle system, another one to make awesome isometric sprites, and the last person makes beautiful music.
And then suddenly it all falls apart as one single person of the team ends up having a busy life.
After the life crisis is over the team usually have lost interest already.
And I don't think that gamemaker allows profit either. I remember reading something about it while using it some time back. And really, gamemaker is a lot more complicated than RPGM2k3. I can make magic with rmk but in gamemaker it feels like I'm wearing an eye patch and shot myself in the knee.
-
Yeah, well...
don't be lazy, you know?
Sure, a team may work, but like Prpl_Mage said,
they can easily fall apart. It takes a lot of effort to get your game going, but it's worth it in the end.
You get a nice, creative game everyone likes!
And if you think making charsets or chipsets take forever, get a template, or better, use the CharasGenerator we have here!
(or whatever it's called)
To be honest, there was a few games I had my high hopes for, but ends up falling apart because one person or more quits.
If you don't easily get a team to help your game making, take all the weight yourself!
It's not hard to single-handedly get a good game, with enough time and dedication.
