So I finally got this game...
Can someone please explain how this works? I'm playing the warrior of light story and I can't figure out how you are supposed to fight this game with any kind of skill.
I sap bravery and tries to use attacks, grab some EX cores and manage to score an attack to win. Most of the character's moves are slow and about everything can avoid it.
Also, how do you recover Hp after battles? It kinda sucks to lose 1/2 of your hp in the first fight and have to beat the rest with no damage.
Yeah... Might be rambling but I'm actually really interested. Seems like there's too much going on that I have no idea about.
-
I actually find it does take skill...I usually play as Zidane though so you have to play faster...I will talk to you on msn...
-
Early on, it's ridiculously easy. But as you progress- probably starting around the last chapter of the 4 and 5 star beginning stories, it becomes more important to chain combos, dodge really fast, and stuff like that.
I've found that I can't rely on my usual "MASH BUTTONS HARD" strategy of fighting games, which is usually how I win at other games.
-
Many people tend to win this way. While you try to memorize attacks and use them, your opponent just keep pressing anything and finally win! Sucks... or maybe I just am not good at fighting game.
Anyway.
I saw this game for 10$ today. Wonder if I should buy it.
-
Well, the characters I've played so far. Warrior of light and Farion only have slow hp attacks.
Farion got the "arrow of something" which takes some time to do, and warrior of lich had some more "wide" hp attacks.
If only I fight an enemy who knows how to dodge - I'm in trouble 'cuz onyl luck will determine if the cpu is bad and don't avoid that hp attack arrow projectile thingy.
And what about healing in levels? Beside potions and the cure ability(which apparently can only be used once...)
-
As you level up, you get faster attacks. HP attacks are often slower than bravery ones, though, which is lame.
Firion pretty much bites the whole game, though, hence why he's getting a total rehaul for the upcoming sequel.
As for healing: when you're in ex mode, your HP regenerates, too. There are accessories that boost the regen amount.
-
I started as Cloud and went from there. he was easy to learn with. I've palyed Zidane, Firion,Cecil, Tidus and a few evil stories...Jeckt being a main one can't remember the others.
But I gave my Bro my PSP so I can't play the game anymore.
-
Yeah I'm getting some more hang of this game now. Still a bit confused about this whole accessory creating in battles.
Also, is there some kind of global way to do chases? That's pretty much how I won most battles as WoL; the aerial bravery combo - and none of Firion's attacks initiate chase.
And lastly, what's up with those chests/summons hidden behind yellow tiles? It keeps saying that I need to complete some kind of mode to get it.
Speaking of mode, I didn't like that Command- battle style... Felt rather silly. KH Birth by sleep made it far better.
-
Global way? No, I don't think so-- every char gets chase moves eventually, but not all have them from the start.
The yellow squares go away once you beat the mode you're in.
So if you do WoL's story once, all the way through, when you redo it, the yellow squares go away. You can also spawn harder battles and more treasure by getting story points.
And uh. I don't get the battle gen thing either. I kind of ignore it.
-
Well that explains it.
Also, I kinda hate how they don't encourage you to actually fight. I spend turns to fight enemies and less turns left at the end means less points earned. No bonus at all for clearing a level of enemies and treasures.
Also, yeah. Battlegen - bad crap. The explanation made little sense as well. There's some chance shown in the beginning. But I usually break the bravery of whatever I'm facing and also deal hp damage (kinda hard to win otherwise) and still have only unlocked like 3 stuff. Breaking garland and WoL, dealing hp dmg to WoL.
Well, I'm still learning
-
The stuff starts piling up fast, even if you don't really try.
The issue is getting the specific things you need for certain items. Super annoying.
And yes, agreed. Unless they're the kind that gives DP back when you beat it a certain way, it's like "Oh hey, a fight! *avoid*"
-
I HATE Golbez and his goddamn Genesis Rock move...
Any ideas how to counter this ***hole?
-
Dodge. Dodge a lot. Once you get a good sense on how to dodge and block, you'll start doing better. Onion Knight, Kefka, and Cloud of Darkness are superb. My brother insists on using Terra and being a cheap prick sitting back and firing off magic from a safe distance.
As for Golbez... good luck. I found that dodging in to him seems to work most efficient, if it makes sense, but I don't understand the mechanics as to why this is so.
-
I beat most characters no problamo. But Golbez and Exdeath are so annoying warping around and shooting stuff.
Also, there seems to be little to no way to avoid Genesis Rock other than not even being around in the first place. A
And being all WoL and stuff makes it kinda hard to keep away against a character like Golbez who shoot balls and punch me into the balls.
-
Apparently Dissidia 2 has Laguna. Suddenly I give a ****.
-
Laguna's confirmed, yeah, as are Kain Highwind, Lightning, Vaan, and Tifa.
Laguna seemed like an odd choice to me, I figured they'd go with Seifer or some other fan favorite. Of course, Laguna is awesome, so I don't care.
Vaan, though. . . stab me in the eye, please.
-
Is Seifer really a fan favourite? I wanted to punch him in the dick.
Also, apparently Basch is going to be a different skin for Gabranth, seeing as they fight in the same way and have the same voice actor.
-
He's pretty popular, yeah.
I hated his guts. Really, really did. And I say this as a huge FF8 fan.
Really? That's kind of awesome. BAsch and BAltheir were the only parts of FFXII I liked. Unfortunately, the dislikes made it intensely unpleasant.
-
They should let you play as Chicken Wuss. I mean Zell. Simply for the jokes. I wonder if they're going to try to include a second character from each series, because at this rate it looks promising. Here's hoping Black Mage makes an appearance.
-
To cast the spells that makes the peoples fall down?
-
I dont care for this unless the following characters are added
Raamza
Freya or Steiner
Ninja from FF6
Quina
Princess Peach
-
Reports say they are NOT bringing in equal amounts from each game. So, no, every game won't get a second character.
Game would definitely be better if I could fight Yoshi with Quina, though. TONGUE SLAP FIGHT.
-
I still think it was cool that Siefer could counter Odin in FF8, that was one of the raddest moments in the game.
Vaan.... no. Hate the guts out of the guy. Gabranth is the closest to an original character that game could offer. Give us the FFXII moogles instead and it will be just as good. Maybe Ashe? At least she's a woman.
Black mage? There are no black mage; he's the Warrior of light. But there was 4 of him. I'd like to see Vivi though, he's a black mage with personality. Just hoping the disney chick don't get to do his voice as in KH2.
Freya will probably not be in this game is Kain is. He's the dragoon right?
Also, it is kinda odd that no tactics characters are in this. Add Raamza and Marche perhaps?
Btw, what happened to the rumour about Sora and Zack being in this game?
-
Way to kill my fun.
Sora and Zack still have time to make their appearance. Although Zack would essentially be Cloud again, so hopefully they wont include him. Sora, they're probably saving that one.
-
I'm sticking with the fact that the game will never truly be epic until they add Rydia.
-
I definitely want more women in the game, yeah.
I'm still upset they turned BAMF Terra into a whiny magic-only chick. :/
I dunno, I kind of hope they just keep it to FF, myself. Not to mention, Sora's also licensed to Disney like the rest of KH, and they'd have to alter a lot of things for Disney to give it the OK.
-
Freya would be absolutely amazing.
-
Women that would be sweet if added:
NOT Maria from ff2.
Rydia
Faris ('cuz it's hillarious)
Celes
Yuffie! (or maybe Tifa. Aerith would be a poor choice)
Rhiona, NOT Selphie.
Beatrix, maybe Freya but please don't add Garnet or Eiko.
Lulu could be Cosmos' answer to all of Chaos' magic users but something tells me that:
FFX-2 Yuna will more likely be in the game.
FFXI? No, the annoying gnome was enough.
FFXII? Male, female. In this game it's barely a difference of non-boobs or boobs. Ashe would add some class to the party though. Penello is Yuffie combined with Rikku after all while Fran is.... Chewbacca.
FFXIII then, Lightning I guess. Fang was a rather boring character and Vanile's voice hurts my ears.
-
Lightning and Tifa are in, so I guess there's that.
FFX-Yuna, Celes, Beatrix would all be so awesome.
But with the way Square's been going, they'll throw in random NPCs from FFXIV. "HEY THIS IS A COOL GAME YOU SHOULD PLAY IT"
-
FF14 is not even cool. Its like....almost cool...but not.
Its like they made a very small but rad single player RPG, then made multiplayer, and buggy.
Then when it was like....almost rad for a multiplayer game that should have been single player, they were like...."The people dont need to know cooldowns of effect durations" then they were all like...
"Hey guys. Lets severely impede the players ability to get quests done and level up...then lets make grinding really slow.
We will let players do like....twelve...NO NO....get this.... EIGHT half hour (timed) quests....Every Eight hours"
Then another guy was like "Eight hours?!? Are you Mad!?!? Better make it every thirty Six hours"
It sucks because the graphics are splendid, the world (despite its shortcuts) is huge, the cities are proportionate, and the class system is the best out of any MMO Ive played.
-
They've actually sent out apology letters, from what I've heard.
I'm not an MMO person myself, so I haven't tried it, but the people I know who have are not happy campers.
Then again, I'm kinda leery of Squeenix altogether right now, since I got one of the bugged copies of FFXIII. :/
-
Pokémon wouldn't exist if people never liked Final fantasy. Bow down ye supernerd!
-
They've actually sent out apology letters, from what I've heard.
It's true. They also extended the time you can play for free. And they demoted Tanaka, who was the director. What a silly farce.
-
Oh look an FF thread! What did I think this was about something else.
-
They also recent just fired most of the FF14 development team and replaced them with their "A list" people.
The game currently has no recurring feess, So Ill deal with it.
If any of you happen to play, and are on Fabul server, Find Radtron Harshtokes
-
Yeah, they dumped the FFXIV director and replaced him, and have made the game free to play. At least they can admit that they've fucked up.
Edit: Goddamn you Gem

Laguna totally has a laser gun shaped like the Ragnarok space ship.
-
It sure looks like the ragnaros.
-
I really don't care for the ultra-awkward 3D thing that game does, but if nothing else I'll say Dissidia has some really cool remixes of the better final fantasy songs.
-
So, Yuna is officially in the game.
Nothing out of her fighting, yet, though.
-
Does she have her stupid guns?
-
Can they scrap Yuna and put in Freya? Yuna is utterly useless in every incarnation.
-
She's in her X outfit, so I hope not.
It's ridiculously easy to break the game with her - get her black magic, and it's like, ohshizzwhat. But it's not her default weapon set or anything, so I have no idea what she'll do in Dissidia.
If someone from IX gets in, I'd rather it be Beatrix, as unlikely as that is. FFF yeah.
-
Beatrix would be too similar to WoL. Freya could have crazy jump, not to mention the cool dragoon and lance combinations she could have.
-
But Beatrix would be the "neutral character" Which I assume Kain is kinda counted as.
Also, is there any real pictures of yuna yet? So far I've seen her feet.
-
But Freya would play basically like Kain, too.
Nope. Just the feet.
-
Gilgamesh was confirmed. Also trailer-

-
I like how Yuna uses summons as attacks, all is well.
But where's that Gilgamesh at? I'd love to see Gilgamesh in this.
-
I was really skeptical but Yuna's attack looked pretty sick. So did Tifa's. And this is coming from someone who really didn't like either of them.
Could have done without Cloud, though. I feel like Square's kind of overkilled us on Cloud.
-
Gilgamesh's character portraits and stuff found in the filesystem of the demo they released, which should only be there if he's going to be playable.
-
What design are they going with then? I wouldn't mind the FFXII desing actually, that battle was one of the few good things about the game.
-

It's a possibility his other designs will be alt costumes.
-
That's good enough. Just didn't want the clown looking version.

That's my girl! I knew she had it in her! :)
From the desk of Archem: There's only one "h" in "http". Learn it, live it.
-
That's like Onion knight of speed and large hit boxes all over. I hope I don't have to meet her much.
