I've yet to play the first one. Even though I have it. As well as the second.
I can't find the time to play. Because for some reason, I don,t play much games that I actually feel like playing.
I'm weird.

I really should play at some point, though. Seems like an interesting and fun game.

I liked the first one but not enough to get into the second one! Sorry this thread isn't living up to your exuberant first post Mid :p

Isn't this the game that is like kotor only that the aliens have new names and no dark side? Kinda like the same people who made dragon age or something?
I donno, got a friend who only liked one of them because that actress from that chuck show was one of the characters. Besides that I haven't heard anything good about it.

Would it be worth getting or should we stick with star wars Mid?

I have no idea what Kotor is... *fail nerd*

I also didn't exactly care for...Star Wars. <<;;

And ME has a darkside, The Reapers. (looks for a trailer)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBktyyaV9LY&feature=player_profilepage

And the demo is out. :O

Personally, I enjoyed it however I haven't played the multiplayer soooo

Kotor = Knights of the old Republic. It's like a MMORPG without the MMO. Or something.
And before you say "But that's called an RPG!" well no, it's different! It is!

I think it's sort of similar, yet different. For one, guns are actually fun to use in Mass Effect.

I really should start playing soon. I did like the few minutes I played. Even if I was bad at it.

The Reapers aren't quite "dark side". Think "Rumored apocalyptic being". Mass Effect has a great story, awesome cast of characters, excellent dialogue, and the always fun option to be either renegade or paragon. Renegade means shooting a guy in the face to intimidate his friends for information. Paragon means telling him that the information will help keep him out of jail for some kind of misdeed he did. Or there are the middle ground options of bribing the info out of him, weaker versions of the renegade/paragon dialogues (based on speech level), and sometimes even doing side quests. Your decisions affect a number of things, including minor story elements, romantic interests, how well your team members respond to you, and even if some of them will die. The decisions you make carry over into the second and third games, meaning that the effects of your play have long-lasting consequences, so while the main story is the same, a million little details can be drastically different between two save files. The universe is huge (especially in the second game, where you get free flight about the galaxy), and there's information about basically everything you see in the game. If you love reading about flies on the Krogan home world (which don't actually exist), there's a data log on it.

The "dungeons" in the first game were repetitive, but that's ok. They were better in the second, but less common. The vehicles go from being terrible (first game) to awesome (second game), and the gunplay and squad controls are solid. The RPG elements are trimmed down a little in the second game in favor of more action, but it seems that Bioware learned that not everyone wants this. As a result, the third game has three modes of play: Action oriented (dialogue sections play out as cutscenes instead of interactive speech parts), RPG (deeper team customization, standard speech control, more strategic battles), and story (less RPG, easier and fewer combat sections, and I've heard that there's a little more dialogue). The third game has a separate multiplayer section which feels ok, but won't be replacing Gears of War when it comes to multiplayer third-person cover shooters. It's nice that you get the same level of customization as in the full game, but it's a little too clunky for such fast-paced gameplay.

If you haven't played the game, trust me, it's worth trying. The series isn't wildly successful for nothing, and Dragon Age II aside, Bioware has a spotless record when it comes to western RPGs.

Oh, did I mention the various powers you get? Not really? Well, you can probably play the whole game without firing a shot with the right character build.

Archem, you've always been my favorite. <3

I never played the first one but I fell in love with the characters in part 2 (Garrus, Miranda (she's a lesbian :D), Jack) and wish I finished it. One day...I'll make time to buy it. One day...

Everybody in Bioware games are lesbians if you push them hard enough.
Even the guys.

Well, not really, but still.

I lost interest in the series, and Bioware, really.
Haven't played many of their games in a while.
Not since Dragon Age, which I played until I got into the ****ing mages tower.

Mass Effect 3 looks like a trainwreck. ****ing atrocious script, stupid design choices, shoddy animations, plot decisions from previous game meaning nothing, etc.

Here's a few choice examples of what I mean on the bad script and plot decisions not mattering front.

I will play this. And if I don't hate it I'll be really ****ing surprised.

Here's a few choice examples of what I mean on the bad script and plot decisions not mattering front.
• Romance between EDI and Joker. Oh and EDI is a robot now by the way!
 • If you killed the Rachni Queen in ME1, the Reapers just found another one.
 • Remember the person you blew up on Virmire? Nope, not dead. Now they're an ~evil reaper servant~ or some ****
 • The protheans have ****ing jamaican accents. This isn't even plot related but WHAT THE ****.
I will play this. And if I don't hate it I'll be really ****ing surprised.

It's another of those "must play to hate" titles that have no cohesive tie-in with their predecessors and are just made for the $$$ A lot of titles like this are appearing recently this fiscal year, with Halo 4 leading off in the distance. Although you kinda have your info wrong. They are not Jamaican accents. Think about it for a second.

Whatever they are they sound completely ****ing silly and out of place.

I'm not reading anything on this topic because ME3 is one of those games I'm trying not to spoil myself anything.

I'll just say I better goddamn see Tali's face.

Don't worry, the only spoil from reading this thread would be "This game is going to suck" or "We don't care"

OMG NOW I WON'T BE SURPRISED WHEN PEOPLE DON'T CARE

THANKS A LOT OFR SPOILING IT FOR ME LUCAS D:

People will care, but just not here. Well, except for Mid and I. Unless it ends up as terrible as end-of-the-world Hobo thinks. Then we'll concede defeat and hate the game, too. And, of course, if it's good, we'll be all "told you so", and then everyone will bandwagon up.

Except Lucas. He can suck a dick.

It's just, after DA2 and TOR, I'm concerned that Bioware forgot how to make video games.

Dragon Age II and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The former is the sequel to Dragon Age, and fans had few nice words for it. The latter is their most recent game; a Star Wars-themed MMO. Mostly good things have been said about it, but Hobo is treating it like a failure in his whatsit.

Probably because it's WoW with a storyline.
From what I've seen.

It's a singleplayer game on MMO servers. If it doesn't fail in a few months I will be VERY surprised.

It seems that I remain to be the single person who enjoyed Dragon age 2. The game could be a lot more storydriven, the battle needed some fixs  - but it was a pretty good game. Played through it as a warrior and a mage(although I got tired of it when I tried the rogue) Once on hard and then on normal. Storywise it was worse than dragon age 1, battlewise it was better.

And well, I don't remember bioware doing anything not all freedom based with multichoice dialogue, affection ratings and different endings(or texts at ending). Guess that's their thing.

Speaking of which - Lots of games are using those multichoice dialogue options these days. Even skyward sword had some.
Been played a whole lot of Xenoblade chronicles lately and I think they did a good thing when they put the multichoices in special "affection cutscenes", where you initiate a skit-like scene with two people at a special place and your choices actually affects the outcome of the conversation. Usually two choices each skit. And it's not just a chance to raise or lower affection - if I say the wrong thing the conversation actually takes a whole new route. For example when talking about some factory, if you ask if they don't want it out of steel since the protagonists are mechanical - the conversation starts to be about fear of machines instead of what that factory does.
