To sum it up for those who don't want to check wikipedia, it's a bill, that's been proposed on 2009, ignored for a while, and re-proposed this month. If it passes, people who are gay will face either life imprisonment or death sentences depending on how gay they are. It also says that Ugandans who are gay outside of the country may be extradited back to Uganda and pay for the "crimes".

That's basically the worst thing any country could ever do. It's like they want to be seen as a backwards-*** country going in full-reverse. As if they question their qualifications as a recognized nation.

I can understand countries which have always had it rooted in them finding it difficult to let go, but not a re-introduction of something like that is ludicrous!

The darker the blue, the better for same-sex relationships, with the purple-y stuff being same-sex marriage being able to be performed.
The lighter the orange, the better, with the lightest being simply "Minimal Penalty". Probably a fine, or something.
Grey is homosexuality being legal, but marriage not being recognized.

Well, not be all high and mighty. But this ain't exactly news. These countries have always been against homosexuality and will unfortunately remain so for a long time. Even in countries where there ain't laws against homosexuality those people still face oppression and violence.
The countries who've had civilization forced upon them haven't exactly developed in the socialistic area with recognition of minorities and such, same goes for violence. Especially those countries that still goes with the whole family>clan>tribe-hierarchy have huge problem with what we west-ies consider wrong. Murder is kinda cool, stealing is okay, anything abnormal is cleansed ect.
Even in Sweden gays aren't all that safe. There are people who does not like their orientation and might even do something violent about it. And calling someone a fag is the typical high-school behaviour of the jocks as seen in holywood movies.
Oh right, we force our trannies to get divorced and sterilized if they want to swap gender (which I personally feel is fine) but the government is going to skip that next year.

People get killed in a lot of countries for a lot of reasons. Not just being gay.
And no. You cannot change it. It's not pessimism. It's called realism. We as humans, have homicidal tendencies. As animals of a very natural world, part of humanity will always feel superior to others for WHATEVER REASON, and will try to rid of it somehow.
What do you think we should do with the people that think killing all gays is right? Imprison them all? Even if that was manageable, a new generation would rise with different twisted visions. You can't stop this kinda crap from happening. You just cannot stop part of the flawed human nature. It's not simplifying things. It's accepting how fcked up our world is.
If you really believe you can do something about it, then DO something.
I have really come to terms that if we are not killed by something natural within the next 100 years, humanity will destroy itself. Like Carl Sagan, I hope we find a way off this rock before that happens.

Indeed, I understand now.
However, what we see and understand in our western part of the world isn't what they believe to be right. They are in delusion because of the laws and beliefs before them. It is something to be angry about. All i am saying I guess, is that again, this isn't new. And won't be stopped. That, the fact that it won't be stopped, should be more anger producing for you.

Yeah like people said. This is the real world, some places aren't the same as our places. And because of democracy we can't force our own opinions and laws upon other countries. When the majority thinks something, that's what goes. Like that Baltic country that banned the gay pride festival. Why? Because 90% of the population voted against it. Is it oppressive? Maybe to us but not to the people there.
There is violence against gays, trans, lesbians, people with political opinions, people who likes abortions, jews, muslims, immigrants, women, blacks, whites, asians, animals and so on. Whether there's a law against it or not - People might take it upon them as their mission to "get rid of them". And that is sadly what the world looks like.

Honestly, I don't see the point in arguing there's nothing people can do. What good is it to tell someone they just need to calm down and do nothing? You're basically saying he shouldn't even talk about this because "there's nothing you can do about it". That's a load of bullshit. Just because you some how manage to turn a blind eye doesn't mean everyone else can or should do the same.

A blind eye is what lets injustice continue to exist. A twig is weak, but a bundle of twigs holds strong. Lucas alone can't do anything. This is true. However, by giving in and going along with it, nothing changes. If Lucas continues to make the issue known, makes others aware, and has opposition to these ridiculous laws, maybe something can happen. It's not a guarantee, but it's a start. Violence and an attempt to extinguish what is different is a part of the natural order, but so is the rise of the abnormal. It's called "evolution". No attempt means no change. So even if his outrage is in vain, at least he's made an attempt at making the issue vanish.

Well my vote goes to trying to get the countries a bit closer to you to change first. Trying to change the most distant and extreme countries just won't work unless you got a budget of 3 million $ and a staff of people.
It may be turning a blind eye but that's how it goes when you keep hearing what the people who immigrate here had to put up with. That's the whole reason people flee, something is really wrong where they came from. What we do is accept those oppressed people into our country in an attempt to give them a dignified life. And if we're lucky, those people care enough about their homeland that they'll fight for their rights later on. But there is nothing you can do when you're dead.

Not so in America. They're exploited by corporations, harassed by Homeland Security and ICE, then deported where they repeat the process because there's nothing for them in the country they came from where the US probably played a hand in ruining in x, y, or z fashion.

No, posting shiz on a forum barely trafficked is not doing something. If you think Drenrin, it is, then i am sorry, you will never achieve anything past feeling of wishing to do something.
And although I don't care about America, you did in fact, bashed it, three times. Intentionally or not, you never clarified whether or not you were speaking of a government. Your vagueness is at fault.
