My favorite was actually 5  :D  Then 7, tactics, 9, 6, 3, 1, 8, 4, 10-2, 10, 2. (in decending order). I haven't played XI, or finished TA, so I won't mention them  :D

My vote goes to IX. I'm playing through it for the second time right now and I find that the world, music, and story of the game appeal to me much more than any of the other games in the series.

VII was a lot of fun but it really never stood out to me like it did for most people.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 23, 2005, 11:00:05 PM
uh... can't i vote for two?! :D

Fine, I'll have to go with 6. I never even finished it, but the characters and the story and Kefka, were awesome!
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on February 23, 2005, 11:01:01 PM
Well 7 scored second on my list because it was the first FF game I played, and it got me hooked on the entire series. When it first came out the graphics were amazing comparted to previous games, especially since it had movie scenes which i hadn't seen before in any games., so that was another reason I liked about it.

I thought 8 was a good game, but I thought the start was really slow, and in my opinion it didn't get really good untill around the second disk. I also didn't like the whole being paid on salery and only being able to build weapons. However the junctioning system was cool, squalls 'press the trigger to make the attack stronger' was cool, and once it got farther in the game it turned out to be really cool :)

8! 8! 8!

7 is over-rated.

I'm not very into FF, I like other RPGs though, but FF series is a little too hyped. Too many think it's the only RPG series for them.

The Megaten series gets too little of attention for example, it's a unique series where you recruit monsters to help, and they come in handy.

2 titles were released here in the US over the last few months: Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne (Featuring Dante from Devil May Cry, though he was an unneccesary addition) and another that was released with a title like Megami Tensei somthing. Both are PS2 titles and are in full 3D, you may want to check them out. Btw, they are rated M for language and possibly blood mainly.

Final Fantasy Tactics, and I see you forgot it... so FF9, only because of [SPECIAL EFECTS] Flying Amarant [/SPECIAL EFECTS]
Title:

3 would be my favorite if it wasn't so DAMNED hard! You have to train for a few hours before you enter a new area. Reminds me of 7th saga....

But my favorite is Tactics.

FF is overrated. Tales, Star Ocean and Chrono would kick FF's butt any day. But if I had to choose... I would say either 4 or 6, with emphasis on 6.

This topic is about what your favorite FF game is, not how other series are better than FF. Either way I don't think someone should judge a whole series being better than another series, rather one should judge each of the games seprately, especially since the FF games aren't sequals or anything.

But chrono trigger, chrono cross, and star ocean where all very good games :) There are also a ton of other games that were great, but this really isn't the place to list em  :p

I think that liking a game for a certain character is all right. I do it all the time  :D

RPGLord would so totally be merrygoround pissed off that you left out the first 5, since he so desperately loves number 3 I think it was. but I'll always like 7. Materia rocks.

I would say IV or VI is my favorite. I know everybody loves 7, I do too, but, like everybody else said, it's overrated.

I have yet to play these Final Fantasies:
IX
V (In the middle of beating)
XI (About to try because my friend just got it)
CC (Only played the beginning)
Tactics

You'll be suprised at polls I've seen thru the net stating the reasons why they like some FF games. Pretty much whi DoA came a bit infamous <.<;;

ANYWAY... I played FF8 first and played little the others. Dunno, never seemed to like the other as much as I liked 8, so yeah.

Post by: Razor on February 24, 2005, 04:25:48 AM
I think FF7 is only classed as overrated because that many people liked it in the first place. honestly, if it wasn't as popular as it is, would it still be overrated?
Title:
Post by: Osmose on February 24, 2005, 04:29:44 AM
I always tell people this if they say FF7 is overrated after I say I liked it: "Well, damn, saying FF7 is overrated and FF6 was awesome is overrated." Because, seriously, I've seen people who will say that just to look like they have a smarter opinion then others.
Title:
Post by: wildguy3922 on February 24, 2005, 04:33:59 AM
Well, FF7 was my first FF played,

It's cool to everybody because of Sephiroth and his enormous.........sword. One of the major things I loved about FF7 was its music. If you ask someone why they love FF7, 7/10 it's going to be because of Sephiroth.
Title:
Post by: Kijuki_Magazaki on February 24, 2005, 04:35:24 AM
Then again that's your opinion osmose.

I never found the FF series really to be, interesting. However I did payed attention enough to them to know the games by a bit.  And all of the stories some seem interesting, but other seem way off, for my likes. FF8 had something I liked in some games, and so did other FF games. But I won't get into technical specs, in order to not go off-topic.
Title:
Post by: Osmose on February 24, 2005, 04:47:37 AM
It wasn't Sephiroth that really made the game cool. For me, if a character is cool, that doesn't make the game cool. What I liked about FF7 was the mix of battle and story. Sometimes you notice that a game has way too much storywise, like Xenogears(battle system saves that game, thank god). Others are too focused on the system, and very little story, like FFT:A. FF7 really balanced it out - after awhile, other FF battle systems get boring after a long time, but I never got tired of FF7.
Title:
Post by: wildguy3922 on February 24, 2005, 04:59:00 AM
The only FF Battle system I was tired with was FF8, it just took to long to get into a battle, and to attack. Whew!

Something about FF7s music

That's because that was one of the most powerful things about FF7. The music fit every mood, and after a game of no voices and minimal sound (well, there were battle effects and warks and what not) I was suprised to hear the choir of Sephy's.

FF6 and FF7. But I said FF7. Basically those games were SO good that when you remember parts it's like having fond memories and wanting to do it again. WHO THE HELL VOTED FOR 10-2?

Quote

Not really a great game? I truly doubt they will EVER bring out a better one. And it wasn't just Sephiroth, before you ask. It was   everything. The dingy slums of Midgar, the rolling plains and forgotten memories, the doubt and sorrow mixed with good times and joy. The weapons! Oh my god, ultima weapon and such portrayed better than ever before! The highwind, how I liked just to stroll around the inside, or fly around in the sky for no reason! Vincent, Hojo, Sephiroth, Jenova, Lucrecia, their story unfolded beautifully.

And FF6, well that had the most classic moments ever. The opera house, for instance, was pure genius and a joy to play. Ultros was so funny, and past the 2D graphics was a really great game. So that's my second favourite of all time.

FFX-2 had teh boobies. It had absolutely nothing else.
Or maybe it was the only game they had. Who knows?

Anyway, sure it would be milking a cow long dead with 42 bullets in its head, lit on fire and eaten by a leprechaun, but I wouldn't mind playing a PS2 version of FF7 with some what upgraded graphics.

Heres my opinion on the "over-rated" FF7. If you know nothing about the game, and no one has ever told you anything, most people I bet would think it was a great game. However, when people just say "FF7 is the BEST game ever", people get high expectations for the game, but when they play it and the game dosen't live up to their expectations, then it dosen't seem nearly as good.

Chrono Cross is another example, I heard a lot of people thought it was a great game, so about a month ago I bought a used copy of it. I thought it was gonna be this outstanding game if people said it was better than FF7, but it didn't live up to my expectations, and I turned out not liking it too much. I still thought it was a pretty good game though, just not as good as I had hoped.

Post by: Robotam on February 25, 2005, 03:20:32 PM
For god sake, no game is over-rated!
Everyone is different and the ones who likes it think it's good and the other doesn't. FFVII will always be a hate or love game.
I loved it, not because of sephiroth, it was because of everything just like MooseT just said. Sephiroth wasn't really as cool as everyone says, he was a lunatic. If I would walk around with a masamune and a black cape, killing people like a psycho, would you guys think I'd be cool? XD
Sure, Sephiroth was pretty a$$some but I didn't like him like some people does.
But, I love every single FF in every single way.

Btw, Zelos would whip Seph's a$$ in one hit. XD

You forgot the ones I've actually played. Heh.

But out of the NES/SNES bunch... well, actually I don't know which one's my favorite. Probably either 3 or 6, but pretty much all of them were good.. well, the original 2 forced you to pretty much cheat just to level up enough, but besides that it was not bad at all. And they fixed it some in the GBA remake (though that might've just been me overleveling just to survive after being stuck at Mysidia waaaay before I was supposed to be there, thanks to a chocobo, heh...)

As I see it, the best games are FFT (PSX, not Game Boy) and FF VII, because they both have great stories, and great battle sistems (Specially the materia thing)
FF IX is a great game as well, but i donīt like Quina.
She has nothing to do with the storyline, they couldīve just invented a dog for Zidane or something if they wanted another character!
Title:

Title:
Post by: barnsalot on March 06, 2005, 05:14:15 PM
I think now would be a good time to bring this up:

What do you think? Is Quina male, female, or something else? The game refers to him\her throught the game as s-he. I've heard a lot of people saying that they could never imagine Quina as a male because of his\her clothing, but I always thought of Quina as a guy. I don't know why, I just did.

I think Quina is male. A lot of the later Final Fantasies have 3 female characters; a tough girl, a hyper girl and the love interest.

FF7:
Tough: Tifa
Hyper: Yuffie
Love interest: Aeris

FF8:
Tough: Quistis
Hyper: Selphie
Love interest: Rinoa

FF9:
Tough: Freya
Hyper: Eiko
Love interest: Dagger

FF10:
Tough: Lulu
Hyper: Rikku
Love interest: Yuna

So in FF9 there is no room for Quina to be female.

That's interesting.  I had never thought about final fantasy IX's female characters in contrast to the other games in the series. But there is also the fact that Quina and Vivi were wed in Conde Petie.  We can assert that Vivi is male because he is referred to as a he and he also takes a "tinkle" under the bridge with Zidane in Madain Sari.

But perhaps the trolls of Conde Petie don't mind if one male is wed to another.

Title: My opinion about these games...
Post by: RPG LORD on April 01, 2005, 06:48:36 PM
Final Fantasy: ****
Final Fantasy II: *****
Final Fantasy III: ****
Final Fantasy IV: ***
Final Fantasy V: ***
Final Fantasy VI: *
Final Fantasy VII:
Final Fantasy VIII: ****
Final Fantasy IX: ***

The ones I already finished:

Final Fantasy: What I really liked was the fact that it still took me a while to beat, and the music was fun to fit in the game. The story was basic, but just what I liked. I don't know anything I disliked about this.

Final Fantasy II: What I really liked was the story about this one. It was more complicated than its predecessor and I can hear Uematsu really worked on the musical supervision in this one. There is one thing I disliked though: the translators decided to call the Empress of Palamecia a he instead of a she. On the other hand, I find it very well thought of that people sacrificed theirselves for the lives of others, something more people should do these times.

Final Fantasy IV:
The story seemed a bit like a continuation of Final Fantasy II, but they didn't input the same gameplay. Indeed, they just put the battle system of its predecessor in and added the ATB too.
What I liked was the fact that it took so long to find out where to start and where to end for me at first.
Also someone from Final Fantasy II kicked in the game under the name Kain Highwind, which was a child in Final Fantasy II who wanted to be a dragoon. What I disliked though, was the fact that Golbez was Cecil's brother, which was straight from Final Fantasy II. Evil twins. What I certainly disliked was the overused chocobo theme.

Because I had to take a points off for the horrible music (Those Who Remain Fighting) and ANOTHER borrowed Evil Twin plot, not forgetting the amnesia Galuf had in Final Fantasy V. FF6 I gave maximally one star because they started out on a good plot at the very least, not borrowing anything from other storylines.

You do realise that just because two people have amnesia doesn't mean that one is stealing from the other one, don't you? Speaking of which, Galuf's amnesia was stupid. I thought he was being sarcastic for most of the first parts of the game until I realized he really DID have amnesia.

And name the evil twins in FF7. I have no clue who you're talking about.

Hey RPGLord, you seemed to hve f***ed up badly, if FF7 got 0 stars for two people having amnesia, then FF8, in which EVERYONE FORGOT THEY KNEW EACH OTHER WHEN THEY WERE KIDS should have got a minus 17.

Cough. And FF7's OST rocked. Well, on the most part. But Still More Fighting - I haven't heard many better boss battle themes. I'll have it played at my wedding. J/k.... possibly.

(Speaking of which, the FF series have always had a good Battle and Boss Battle musics.)
