Ok, well, what I want to do is make this into a novel and perhaps enter it into a contest or something. This isnt the story, this is just come ideas that came to me as I was typing. Please excuse the spelling errors, and please tell me what you think.
==============================
The New Science and Technology Association (NSATA) is close to discovering the mysteries of multiple dimensions, more commonly, the chaos theory. They have discovered a way to travel between alternate dimensions. This is the greatest breakthrough in science since the utilazation of time travel. However, they face resentment from the government. NSATA is a private organization, funded by private investors. The government has been angry with them for years because they are unable to supervise NSATA's activities. Over time, the NSATA has gained a lot of popularity because of their breakthroughs in science and technology, but also, much resent. In addition to the governement's inability to control them, they face jealousy from many other companies (mostly government-regulated organzations). The NSATA also faces moral protesters, but only see them as a minor problem. NSATA occasionally has to deal with sabotuers, and has many times had their achivements stolen and taken credit for by others. This time however, they will be attributed to this discovery.
The chaos theory, which states that for every instance in time, and infinate number of possibilities can and does happen, each outcome spawning it's own dimension. Shortly after the discovery of multiple dimensions was the relationship with this theory proven. Now, almost 800 years later, the NSATA has found a way to traverse these dimensions. They have created a device that can hyper-accelerate an object, or being into shifting from one dimension to another, codenamed the Oriblem. They have started sending test robots to different dimensions with only slight dimensional shifts, such as a slight change in temperature that day. Or at least that's what they've told the public.
In all actuality, they've done much more. They have sent humans into very distorted dimensions (the subjects are cloaked, mind you, so there is no interaction with the dimension). They are somewhat concerned that the fact that their shifting dimensions creates yet another infinate string of dimensions, but they have no intention of visiting those dimensions. Their major focuses are dimensions which answer questions that begin with "What would the world be like if...". They've looked at a world without man as the dominate species, a world without man's emergence at all, and even such trivial things as a world where they chose to wear a green tie instead of a blue one that morning.
One thing however is that they've tried to look for one very important dimension: a dimension without the creation of the universe. They have been unable to find this dimension. Some say this has corralation to a strange occerence found with time travel. As one is traveling through time, upon approaching the point of the estimated creation of the universe, one's speed will slow down, until their molecules reach a complete stop, and they find themselves back in the same time in which they started. Many hypothesize that the universe does this itself to prevent any forms of paradoxes. Others however see this as a new way to look at the creation of the universe.
The NSATA has also combined inter-dimensional travel with time travel. And with this, have abused dimensions. By going back to the same point in time in the same dimension, they can change certain things and observe changes immediatly, or a hundred years after, or a thousand years after. Although they see the potential to use this as an incredible opportunity for scientific observation and experiment, they would rather use it for leisure. Like dropping a guy off on Earth when it was first created and seeing what effect it had billions of years later. Or by starting out at a point and "interacting" with beings, such as murder, or even common interaction. They are virtually involnerable because they can be ejected from the dimension at any time and brought back to theirs. They basically use alternate dimensions as personal playgrounds, like video games that they can reset any time.
They do this because they see their dimension as supperior. The first dimension to conquer inter-dimensional travel should be able to reap all benifits from it. What they fail to realize is that by tampering with these dimensions, they have created an even larger amount of dimensions, which may have reprecussions, such as another dimension which develops inter-dimensional travel technology, and perhaps may interefere with their dimension in the way that they have with others.

If i were a clown, would you hold me when I'm down?/I wish I had someone to make me drown/So many people don't know that it's so damn hard to be a clown/I am the clown with the giant frown/My heart is in a state of being upside down...

I swear to god man, my respect for you grows each day. Next you'll start raving about Stargate XD
Anyway, I loved the ideas in the beginning about the governments anger at the fact that they can't supervise the activity and the part about the closer you near to creation the slower you move until you jump back to your original time. Oddly reminds me of Asimov. Not too fond of the video game like universe though.

I've always wanted to do something with theoretical physics besides study them. Originally, I was brainstorming ideas for an RPG, which, who knows..
