I realize I've been away for a long time, so if this has been discussed before, apologies.
I notice there's over 2000 character sprite files. 217 pages! That's a lot of browsing. I've been finding pages and pages of DBZ stuff, which, as it doesn't interest me, is just starting to annoy me.
I know you're busy doing all manner of things that are likely much more important than this, but when--if?--you find the time, could you please sub-divide the character resources?
(Shifting DBZ resources to one single folder would be nice. But anyway.)
If you want the simplest division, try those from specific real games vs. those that aren't. So those sprites from Final Fantasy, Starfox, Donkey Kong, whatever, they can be in one folder. Those sprites that are customs and not from a real game can be in a different folder. That would make it so much easier to browse through and find what I'm after. I'm sure there are others who would like that, too.
One additional subdivision might be those chars that are basically rips (look almost identical to the char you actually play in the game) and those that are customs but still obviously recognizeable (e.g. Link done in Earthbound style is still obviously Link, but not from any Zelda game...and Mario made to look more realistic is still Mario but not from any Mario Bros. game). This would enable people to look through all the custom types without finding rips, or vice versa.
As to mixed files...discount the RTPs that are just filling up space, but even one rip or custom real-game char means the file is a rip/real-game file. So seven original chars plus a sprite of Sephiroth means it goes in the rip or real-game section. And authors would be well advised to separate such things into two separate files, the rip/real-game type and the original-character type.
Please take this into consideration. I appreciate having the files available in the first place, obviously, but a little more organization would be greatly appreciated!

I have a website now! Currently just points at my fanfics (over 230 works, totaling over 750,000 words, mostly in Marvel and Person of Interest and now Lackadaisy too). YouTube channel on hiatus but I hope to eventually recreate "A Fugitive in Stardew Valley" now that I know how to mod the game.
