Windows 8 3D desktop, suggestions?

So as some of you may have heard, windows 8 coming out next year and currently has a developers preview out to download for free. One of the new features that makes this version of windows stand out is the metro UI, which replaces the start menu and is similar to the new XBox 360 user interface. I'm going to develop an app for windows 8 as it's still in development, a new 3D interactive desktop with importable themes (all free of course
). As with all new products, it is best to get user feedback and opinions as early in the development process as possible.
In the current windows 8, you start in the metro UI, and can click on the desktop widget to get to the desktop. You can also open certain programs which bring up the desktop. The 3D desktop would be an app that appears like a widget like the normal desktop, so you can open that and use it instead. There will also be options to open up programs with it instead of the default desktop. On top of that, it will be able to automatically import short cuts from the desktop folder. Developers will be able to develop new themes by having a list of models to use and having a very simple scripting interface for how the models will behave. Finally, since 3D monitors are out (some new ones don't even require glasses), I'm going to program an option for stereoscopic 3D.
As for how it will look. My team and I have come up with two ideas for themes thus far:
1. Actual Desk: The first idea is to have a 3D desk.
-Desktop icons will be a cube of their actual icons, though there may be special icons, such as an mp3 player for a music player and a notebook for Microsoft word etc.
-Though you can manually place the icons anywhere you want. By default they will be dropped somewhere on the desk, or they can be placed on shelves by the desk.
-To delete icons, you can throw them (literally) into a trash can.
-The clock will be an actual clock model.
-There will be post it notes that you can post anywhere in the scene for reminders and such.
- You will be able to turn on and off the lights in the scene. There will probably be a lamp and an over all light. The lamp light will be a spot light that is rotatable.
- Possibly more features.
2. Star Map: The finer details haven't been worked out, but your desktop will essentially be made up of constellations, and you can navigate through them in order to get to your icons. Think of the level up system in Skyrim.
So would any of you be interested in using this if it was available for free? Are there any concerns about using a 3D desktop? Do you have any ideas of suggestions or improvements? Do any of the features sound stupid? Please give me any and all feedback. My goal is to make an app that people will like and enjoy, and for that, I need honest opinions

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN
