Neb87's Tutorial on making RTP Style Battle Chars the Easy Way
(RPG MAKER 2003 TUT)
*NOT FOR FULLY CUSTOM BATTLECHARS*
#STEP 1#
--_Item's needed to use this tutorial_--
1.) Download
http://charas-project.net/forum/browse_forum.php?forumid=23&catid=8
the offline Battle Char Generator and the Update 1.17
2.) Download
http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/DraGoonsWebPage/Miscellaneous.html
idraw 3
3.) Make sure you have MS Paint on your Computer
#STEP 2#
--_Making a Plan to Create a RTP Battle Char_--
1.) Open up the Charset that you will change into a Battle Char with Idraw3
2.) Look through the folder Armors or Vêtements & Armures, in the Battle Char Generator folder(probably in resorces 2), and find a Battle Char Base that looks like it will look like your char's body (Armor or Clothes), you will find one that is exactly like your char or ones you just have to recolor, and also ones that you have to add or remove parts of it.
3.)Once you figure out which Battle Char base(Armor or Clothes) you will use, open it with Idraw3 (Right Now just open up the A Battle Char set(The one that is full of Battle Chars))
#STEP 3#
--_Recoloring_--(Skip if not needed)
1.) You should have both your Charest and Battle Char Set (A) open in Idraw3 (Two different files)
2.) Now right click on a color on your Charset that you know that you will put in your Battle Char
3.) Now Double click left on the color that is highlighted in the palette (Box with a bunch of different color squares)
4.) Now look at the Hue, Sat, and Lum, they will have numbers next to them.
5.) Memorize or wright down these numbers.
6.)Now right click the section that you want to change on the Battle Char and Repeat 3-4 but in the Hue, Sat, and Lum put in the numbers that where in the Charset form step 5
7.) Click ok and all of the color that it used to be will be changed to the new color you typed in.
8.) Check to make sure if any parts of Battle Char has been messed up from the color change (such as if you changed a part of there shoes to red and the eyes used to be blue and are red now, and you don't want the eyes to be red, just edit each eye one by one until they are all not red anymore) before going onto anymore color changes.
9.) Repeat above steps for all color changes you will have.
#STEP 4#
--_Editing_--(Skip if not needed)
1.) Now delete anything that is on your Battle Char that is not needed.
2.)You can do this one by one square with pencil tool or use the line tool and my favorite the fill tool(but by sure that you are not deleting any part that you need on the Battle Char set, to prevent this in some spots just make a dot with the pencil tool so it will not fill up the spot that is needed on the Battle Char Set) and be sure that everything that you delete is the color in the top right corner of palette(which is the background).
3.) Add anything that is not on the battle Charset to it with step 2
#Step 5#
--_Putting the Head On_--
1.) Close your open Idraw file of the Battle Charset (SAVE IT) and reopen it in paint.
2.) In the Charset file that is opened up in Idraw edit the characters head facing left, so just the full head is there.
3.) Now Copy the head (By using the select rectangle tool and select over the head and nothing else and then push CRT C)
4.) Now in the Battle Character File make sure that you have clicked on the select tool and you have chosen the second box at bottom of the tools (in MS Paint.)
5.) Now make sure your second color is your background color (in MS Paint).
6.) Push CRT V and place head any a blank spot and resize it if needed to be bigger and copy it again. (This will be your backup head, In MS Paint)
7.) Now CRT V and place on first body
8.)If you need to over lap just copy a head over the body(but not touching it) and copy the part of the body that, will overlap the head and paste it in a blank spot, now place the head where it looks right and move the pasted body over the head to overlap it.
9.) Repeat this to all Battle Char Sets
10.) Some shortcuts are
-After one dead body is completed just copy the whole body and head over unfinished ones.
-Complete all the walking left sets and copy each one individuality and rotate so it’s facing right and paste it over the walking right sets.
-The Defending and Effect sets should have the same tops, so you just need to do one on defending and effect sets and copy only the top part of body so it doesn’t mess up the Battle char(Do not paste the defending on the effect sets and effects on the defending sets (THEY ARE NOT THE SAME)
#STEP 6#
--_Second Set of the battle char set_--
1.) Make sure you open up the part B of the part A battle Charset you edited (so the two Battle char sets that looked the same before you edited it)
2.) Now repeat all steps above so the two battle char set files look the same.
#STEP 7#
--_Testing_--
1.) First import both the battle char sets into your game. (Make sure it is PNG or 256 BMP Format)
2.) Go in your Database and click on the tab Animations 2
3.) Click on Array Size (Bottom left corner) and add 1 more to the list (so if array size was1 it will now be 2)
4.) Click on the new array you created (left side, it will say just a number) and name your character.
5.) Click on the poses and put a battle char sets you just made into the right sections.
6.) You should be able to see if there are any problems with the animations but click on weapons and put a weapon on your character and make a battle on a map and test it that way.
7.) So if it works you now have a working battle char
