Its been a while since I actually worked on a rpg game, so I figured it was about time I started a new fresh game. Im not sure if I will be using this story material for a game, or just having it lying somewhere until I find the interest to publish something out of it.
Note that I appreciate any "ubercliche" things or almost any critisism I can get, to make the idea as good as possible.
First off I was thinking of making the story very dark, making my main character go through alot of suffering. His name is Lance Aryon Aerheart, a survivor of a clan of mostly exiled monks and priestesses, sent away for their beleifs in certain gods, long since corrupted by a diety far to powerful to be described in words. Himself. His power however, is highly unstable and cannot be controlled by himself, its hiding deep inside his soul, waiting for a certain person to confront him at the right day and right time, to take it away, so he can die and finally rest. Once it broke loose, and corrupted his entire clan to slowly die in a plague that cannot be cured. He lives to kill, and he knows it, wearing black robes wandering around the 5 continents that make up the world, be it bare handed or armed, anything that crosses his path will fall.
As the story develops, many things unknown from his past will surface from the depths of his soul and make him realize that he should not be searching for the person who can finally kill him.
This is only what i've thought about sofar, as the time goes he will become less devoted to killing, and eventually find someone who will accept him for what he is, and what he is going to do regardless what it could do to the world.
Screenies might come later on, as well as a development of what is going on. The character list will not be very long, but well developed with an interesting story to all of the characters.
Im off to sleep now, an update might be coming around soon regarding strange powers, magic, weapon skills and anything in that direction that I might think up.

That sounds alot like my char. Cool. Though if he will become less oriented for killing I would first have him meet someone more rational, and after awhile then he becomes less violent. I'm not saying make him go from "I hate you all" to "Give me a hug!". Maybe from killing a pickpocket to just taking it back and punching him. You want him to be the same person.

Yeah thats along the lines I was thinking, now that only leaves one thing for the moment. Why did I write I was gonna sleep when I didnt? Sure beats me.
Anyway, some old memories and emotions hidden will come rushing out eventually, which will make him much more hesitant to kill people. I mean if you didnt have a care in the world if some guy died, you would practically do him a favor and stop his life from eventually becoming miserable. Though if you had emotions enough to understand that this person probably is living a happy life while you have been living under incredible sin you sort of stop just mindlessly slaying everything you encounter, and start thinking things over. Not that stuff will happen THAT fast, it would just ruin everything, but over a period of time, maybe encountering some.. old friends, so to speak.

Supressed memories are awesome if done right. The shame is, they never are. They just meet someone then say "I know you! Bob!". A transitional period is nice. Like they're about to kill someone, and get an image shocked inbto their heads, but they kill em anyways. After awhile though, they begin to understand the image.

Well I suppose something like that could happen, but depending on the victim in that kind of situation the result after the memories came back would be different.
I just remembered something else I thought of more or less.
Masks.
I can't remember any game that masks have been majorly used, so I considered adding them as some sort of different version of materia, or something along those lines. I might steal a little from an Anime im currently in love with, which has a little to do with masks. I also have a fantasy book lying around somewhere, and someone there said something very interesting which I might have great use for to make the game different from others, to quote her:
"Don't forget, Masks are the most dangerous weapons in the world"
