I noticed in the recent Charas Contest
(The Game contest for March 31 / 07)
That the music Judge is also the sound effects Judge.
Which makes perfect sense seeing as how Sound effects
usually take a backseat in most people's
projects when Everyone is hard at work, worrying
about pretty graphics and Fluent storyline.
If you have an Idea you believe is truly Original
It would make sense to deviate from the standard RTP
sounds that are heard in almost Absolutely every game ever made.
Most people say Original sounds are hard to find. They just haven't looked. One place I use to find sounds Is... Well
Find Sounds
Here is a search engine for finding WAVs and is particularly easy to get them another is
- - - - - - -
Flash-Kit
Impeccably Organized to provide you with accurate sounds. The only problem is that you must download it as a Zip File and extract it, so I recommend finding all the sounds you need from that site, and then unzip them all and just drag and drop them to one big folder where you can Import them from there.
- - - - - - - -
DO NOT DRAG AND DROP SOUND EFFECTS INTO YOUR PROJECTS SOUND FOLDER
- - - - - - - -
Some sounds, I'm guessing because of sample rate, Will Be unresponsive, Forcing you to close your RM2K/3 Project, Without saving and Closing about 50 "Error" Messages.
Another problem People face is the Popping sound before or after the sound plays, Making the SFX to sound bad.
This can be solved using a Sound editing program to Fade the very beginning and Very end of your sound effect. I use Wave Pad,
But I've heard
Audacity
is basically the same thing and is also Free.
One more thing I wanted to mention.
When I need a Special Sound Effect (A sound effect That doesn't sound man made) I use
- - - - - - - - - -
FL Studios
- - - - - - - - - -
Once called Fruity Loops, This is Music Making Software (MP3)
But can also Export in WAV . I use this when I want to make something sound really weird and different.
It does take a bit of navigating to find where the effect menu's are and what effects can be used.
If anyone Would like to know how to use this Just PM me and I'll show you the basics of using it for sound editing.
Just a note, If you want to make a sound of your character searching For something through a Pile of junk, (Just an Example)
and you have a bunch of small sounds, then FL Studios can combine all those sounds into one file and have each sound play when you want, So you don't have to make the sounds play at different times with Events.

I'm planning on Compiling A Zip folder full of useful
Sound effects for people to download.
It should be out sometime in April
And YES! It will include alot of special Sound Effects!
Any questions about anything relating to sound, is only a PM away.
One More thing I forget to Mention:
Phylomortis
Hosts a Zip folder Compiled By Shirotsugh Full of Japanese Battle Cries (And some Short Japanese Sentences). Which are featured in a number of games Including One of My favorites: Final Fantasy: Endless Nova
