So anyway, with contests, has there ever been a team one? Ya' know, with like a programmer, a writer, a spriter, etc. all working together to make a game? I think that'd be pretty cool and it would let people in on game contests who can only sprite or something.
Just a suggestion...
PS
Seriously though, like the subject description says, there should be a specific section for suggesting stuff for the forum.

The problem is that most members these days have been able to actually be good at all of those things.
So some people are "1-man-army" while others may be "spriter", "story writer" ect.
And to just spell it out here:
1. It is hard to get people for the right job.
2. Teams usually screw up since someone either:
a) is to lazy to do their part
b) don't have time.
c) private problems.
d) different oppinions and/or a dictator
e) harddrive/internet's sudden death.
But I suppose

Also, there IS a specific section for discussing issues or suggestions for Charas.... it would be the Charas forum, hence the thread move.

Meh, sorry Osmose. i read all the section descriptions and I personally didn't think this thread belonged here. My bad... Well, anyway, you have a good point Purple. But you know many of those problems can also apply to a person working alone...

The biggest problem with game contests is that too often they require a new game to be made, and thinking up even a simple concept for a new game is just too daunting to result in a whole lot of participation.
One of the most successful series of contests at Charas was Meiscool's mapping contests. He provided the setting for contestants so they could focus more on making their map and less on what they need to make. For a game contest, the same idea should apply - give a basic outline of a very short game, allow for creative people to stray a little from this and add their own flairs, and base judging on where people take the idea. In an ideal world you can even set up a set of base characters, monsters, items, etc. for people to use as a starting point.
The other option is to hold a grand contest for people with games in-progress, allowing them to take their own project and promote it. It motivates them to get a demo done in a certain amount of time and in the end even the people who don't "win" still get something out of it.
That's just my 2 cents.
