Ultimate Showdown

Alright, it's been done before, as someone recently said.  As a matter of fact, it's been done very recently but, we're gonna do it again and this time with style.  You know the routine.  So and so vs. what's his face, who would win?  Gonna be running a tournament here.  I'm gonna run each match up for a week whoever has the most votes wins.  When all is said and done the ultimate winner will have....ultimately, won.

edit:  discussion of why either party would win is welcome.

This week's match up:

Samus Aran vs. Mega Man

Voting closes on August 10th, at which time look forward to Ultimate Showdown round 2.  I will have a bracket for the tournament posted soon. (and yes I DO have too much time on my hands

All a matter of opinion, my friend.  There are many fans of the Mega franchise that would say his games are far better (not taking sides) and his arsenal of weapons is vastly superior (in variety, at least) to Samus.  But they are both similar enough to make for a interesting match up imo.  It would be a fight I'd like to see.

Boobs may play a determining factor in most free-for-alls but don't forget, robots may have a hard drive but they don't have a sex drive. Her feminine charms won't work on Mega

If Samus can have her hyper beam then can Mega have his Nova Armor?  Let's keep it alive, people.  I wanna see point and counter-point.  This is more than a popularity contest it's a discussion where we can form an educated opinion as to who would actually win in this fantasy fight.

Since you didn't specify a particular version of Megaman, I'm going to assume you're referring to MM Classic.

Megaman, being a robot, has perfect aim, reaction time and great resilience. In addition, his ability to copy other robots' weapons gives him a huge arsenal of potential weaponry, not to mention his support units, E-Tanks and other upgrades.

Samus, being human (an enhanced human, but human nonetheless) doesn't have perfect reaction time. Her suit can likely compensate for that a bit, but it's very likely that her raw reaction time isn't up to par with Megaman's. However, she does have more defensive abilities than Megaman: on average, her energy maxes out at 1499 units, whereas MM's is 32 bars. MM can only usually take about 16 hits from average enemies, whereas Samus can take far more.

As for weapons... MM has a great variety of weapons, but other than his Buster, they all have limited energy. Samus' beam weapons have infinite ammo, and she has missiles as well as Morphball Bombs. So, while Samus is relying on the same few weapons for the entire fight, MM could potentially have dozens of weapons, making him more unpredictable.

Samus, however, does have MM trumped in one category: movement. The aforementioned Morph Ball gives her better movement speed and is also harder to hit, and she also has the Speed Booster to let her run circles around MM. Also, while MM is more suited to ground-based combat, Samus has the Space Jump - a completely broken ability that lets her stay in the air for as long as she wants. Not to mention the Screw Attack, which would at least damage MM and at best completely destroy him. The Space Jump is somewhat difficult to control, though, and the Screw Attack doesn't make her invincible, but she would still be able to Space Jump about 300 feet into the air and rain down beams and missiles on MM.

Not to mention the technology difference; the Power Suit is thousands of years ahead of MM in terms of design, and very likely has much greater offensive and defensive abilities. So even if MM got a few hits on Samus, there's a chance that it might not even hurt her.

So all in all, Samus wins this one.

Well played, WarxePB.  Throughout Samus' various games and incarnations she has changed very little.  MM, on the other hand, changed so completely as to become a completely different character altogether.  I'm still fuzzy on whether X and MM are in fact the same robot but supposing for the sake of a fairer fight, both parties were assumed at max potential.  X adds even more defensive and offensive capabilities as well as enhanced movement abilities.  X has demonstrated the ability to dash, charge weapons to incredible lethality, analyze opponents weaknesses, withstand tremendous damage, fly, and even a powerful "nova" type attack similar to Samus' powerbomb, only with a much faster and spontaneous delivery.  All in all, X is full of surprises and enhanced capabilities that would give Samus a run for her money.  Anyone else feel like we're stuck in an episode of Deadliest Warrior?

If it's anything like the games, Megaman can leap like a freak and fire huge blasts in a forwards direction.

Samus seems to have an insane arsenal of escape moves such as screw attack, roll, mines, grappling hook, infinite jump
etc.

I prefer Samus Aran over Megaman for various reasons, and the fact that she is a female has nothing to do with it.

Plus, Megaman can't even duck. (or at least in every Megaman games I've played)

Well, guys, I'm sorry for my unscheduled dissapearance.  I ran into some unexpected fail.  The polls are closed and it looks like Samus Aran is the winner.  There wasn't as big a turn out of voters as I had hoped for but we will waste no time in continuing with our little tournament.  Look for Ultimate Showdown: round 2 coming soon.
