Elysium Revelation
Elysium Revelation is based off a three part series I wrote a year or so back and free time pending it will hopefully become a three part rpg series.
The Story (Cliché Ridden but with different twists)
(This is an old teaser a friend wrote for me)
There’s an emperor. There are people. They’re powerless. There’s a prophecy. There’s one chance. There’s a problem.
Humans are not perfect. That is the problem. It’s possible for them to screw-up the simplest task. One message was all they needed but humans had to complicate matters. Delivering one prophecy to one person was all that was required. Humans took it upon themselves to take extra ‘safety’ precautions. The prophecy was to be delivered by two people in two parts so that if it fell into the wrong hands then it would still be useless. Humans failed to realise their folly. They failed to realise that if one part was intercepted then the prophecy would useless to both the interceptor and the receiver. One messenger lay in a pool of his own blood, the other in front of an astonished woman. The emperor smiled. The rebel leader smiled. Somewhere a tear ran down a hooded woman’s cheek.
Time has passed since that day. The prophecy still remains shrouded in mystery. Neither the woman nor the emperor knew they had received an incomplete message. A war now raged on. The rebels continued to throw everything they had at the empire but they still awaited their saviour. The emperor grew tired of the constant threat from the rebels but was unable to vanquish them once and for all. The rebels were outclassed in almost every department but they knew their time would come. They still had faith. Amidst all the chaos something more serious was to arise and nobody realised exactly how significant this war would prove to be.
Very Clichéd non? I thought so. Fret not; it’s not as bad as it sounds. You don’t play some selfless heroic child who ultimately helps the rebels destroy the evil empire and happiness then reigns supreme. The story is much darker and more sinister than that. I have this thing about hating happiness.
Game Features (99.9% confirmed)
Play three different perspectives. Play as the empire, the rebels or take a neutral stance. All of them are necessary to become fully aware of character motives and exactly how things happened
Voice-acting. It will be there but how much I’m not 100% certain on yet. Obviously I’m trying to obtain a happy-medium with the file size so we’ll see how this one goes.
Customisable magic system. It’s designed to allow the player freedom over which elements characters specialise in. Whereas I might spend all Carden’s points in dark magic, another player might put it into Fire magic and a different player may spread it out equally amongst all nine elements. Actually bad example as Carden doesn’t have access to all nine fields but you get the gist of things.
Unique character abilities. The easiest way of explaining this is via examples. They work a bit like limits. When Carden falls below a certain hp value his critical hit ratio increases whereas Eike gains complete status immunity. Each character has a different ability.
Duelling (Seems like you can’t make a game without having this in nowadays) I can’t comment too much on this as a friend is scripting this, however I can tell you what he’s told me. Characters will gain more abilities through duelling and ability potency will be based on their stats. I think he’s said each character will have four different options every turn but he may’ve changed that. I’ll get him to post to verify this.
24 playable characters and I guarantee there are no filler characters. Each character has an in-depth storyline. Oh wait, I lie, there’s one filler character. I had to add in an extra to even out the numbers.
Upgradeable weapons. Each character sticks with the same weapon throughout only it gets upgraded. I can’t comment on this either as I’m not scripting this. I assume each weapon will have options when upgrading it so that it’s at least semi-customisable.
Note: There will be more features, it’s just myself and my friend have been going over the storyline and character development possibilities more than the features. I assure you that there will be more though.
Playable Demo Characters (May increase in size if the demo gets longer)
Thaseus Voltemand - Empire
Perrod Estletaine - Empire
Paine Cole - Empire
Carden Thorpe - Neutral
Skylar Barton - Neutral
Project Halo - Neutral
Edgarious Tresblon - Neutral
Hale Crosse - Rebels
Kismet Crosse - Rebels
Elias Pregorn - Rebels
I’ll do character descriptions if the topic gets interest.
Oh and another ‘new’ concept in Elysium Revelation is mortality. Characters are human after all, mistakes can be made and therefore to present the character mortality, main characters die. Frequently. Don’t get attached to them. Elysium revelation isn’t a happy story. In fact it’s that sad it’ll make you want to commit suicide. Honestly.
Well there are the basics. What do you think? Any ideas/suggestions? Oh and one other thing. I can draw with pencils not with computers. Therefore I can not do graphics for ****. If anyone wants in on this game on the graphics side or even on the scripting side give me a shout.

Sorry for the double post
Since nobody seems interesting i'll do the character bios in hope that the additonal information will encourage people to post.
Thaseus 'The Thunder God' Voltemand
Age: 25
Allegiance: Imperial Army
Weapon of Choice: Halberd
Bio: Voltemand nears 7ft in height and towers the majority of the population. He harbours incredible strength and can withstand substantial amounts of damage. He is one of the imperial armies General's and loyal to a fault. Despite his loyalty he mentally questions orders of genocide. He has been known to lose his sanity on occassion and break-out in a berserker rage. His personality is quite contrasting to what you would expect.
Perrod Estletain
Age: 20
Allegiance: Imperial Army
Weapon of Choice: Rapier
Bio: At first glance, Perrod is friendly, charming, and kind-hearted. He is always quick to laugh, and seems quite benevolent. However, this is only a ruse. Perrod is manipulative, cunning, and sly. He is often very subtle and plans his steps with relentless precision. He is not above using people to further his own ambitions.
Paine Cole
Age: 15
Allegiance: Imperial Army
Weapon of Choice: An Assortment of Daggers
Bio: Despite his determined personality, unfortunately Paine falls under the column of soldiers who don't quite cut it. His major strength is his speed and ability to dodge the majority of attacks that are thrown at him. His weakness is his lack of strength and naiveness. His training hasn't yielded much happiness and overall Paine has been dealt quite a bad hand. However Paine knows full well that it's isn't the strength of the hand but how you play it that matters.
Carden 'The Death Knight' Thorpe
Age: 23
Allegiance: None
Weapon of Choice: Twin Blades Vita and Letum
Bio: Carden is one of the most talented warriors ever to bless the Earth, yet his attitude and personality don't quite match the talent. He's incredibly confident in his own ability, he has no thought for other people lives and will match his reputation. His past is one riddled with mystery, whether or not Carden supressing many memories is a good thing remains to be seen.
Skylar Barton
Age: 22
Allegiance: None
Weapon of Choice: Greatsword
Bio: The loyal companion of Carden Thorpe who for unknown reasons puts up with his lack of compassion and somewhat unnerving attitude. Travelling with Carden has understandably boosted her swordskills to levels way beyond your average soldier. It's thought that she was formerly of the imperial army as a Heaven Knight Apprentice but rumours of her and Carden's involvement in the imperial army are soon quashed.
Project Halo
Age: 19
Allegiance: None
Weapon of Choice: Magic/Stave
Bio: Halo is a 'failed' experiement of the Imperial Army although the records of her experimentation have never been seen along with various other experiments. The result of the experiement left Halo with transparent Faerie like wings. She has been rendered an outcast because of this. The experiments have also left her lacking sanity and when she does lose her sanity, not many live to tell the tale.
Edgarious Tresblon
Age: 25
Allegiance: None
Weapon of Choice: Rapier
Bio: Edgar is an observer. He watches the world from afar, taking in all the information that he can, and keeping aware of the actions of others. He is a very calm individual, and has a regal, but peaceful, tone of voice. He helps whenever he deems necessary, but usually stays neutral on most accounts. When one sees him, a mysterious smile usually is donned on his face, but he does have a dark side, if someone should attempt to push him to his limits, and that piece of personality is certainly not for the faint of heart. Also, Edgar has an aversion to many women, due to his mother’s abuse in his early years.
Hale Crosse
Age: 21
Allegiance: Vindician Rebellion
Weapon of Choice: Longsword
Bio: Hale has a very warm attitude and rarely snaps out at people. He understands most peoples points of view and always seeks for everyone to be happy. Hale is nearly completely selfless and will go out of the way to help those in need. He may have a gentle heart but he is completely dedicated to his cause and will put his life on the line to acheive the Elysium Revelation. He has often been warned by people that he is taken advantage of but Hale tries to shrug it off and feels it necessary to help out whenever possible.
Kismet Crosse:
Age: Unknown but believed to be 22
Allegiance: Vindician Rebellion
Weapon of Choice: Magic/Black Opal
Bio: Kismet is a kind and generous young woman who at first glance may appear to be fragile. She is in fact a very strong willed and very determined individual. Kismet will seemingly tell people what she thinks but she does tend to throw a lot of hidden meanings in when talking seriously. She’s down to earth and modest despite her intelligence and beauty. There’s an air of mystery that surrounds her though because her motives are not clear and it’s hard to see whether she truly believes in what the Vindico are fighting for.
Elias Pregorn
Age: 27
Allegiance: Vindician Rebellion
Weapon of Choice: Twin daggers
Bio: Elias is an assassin among the Vindico faction. He doesnt really care for the Esylum Revelation although his other faction members are so optimistic about it. As an assassin, he has to be quick and deadly, which he is. He has never came back without a significant organ from the persons body he had killed. He is a quick thinker but his sanity is something to be questioned. He has a very warm heart for an assassin and takes his job very seriously while still trying to keep a normal life.
I'm going to create a website with full details about each character at some point in the near future so i'll post a link as soon as i've done that.
Also, I'll try post some screenshots within the next 24 hours or so.

Triple post. Mods are going to hate me. Just posting again because i found two old screenshots and i can throw them up.
Screeny 1: Hale Crosse on the left, Perrod Estletain on the right
Screeny 2: Hale on the top left, Kismet in the middle, Elias bottom left, Carden on the right, Skylar just behind him. The other guys are generic Vindico soldiers and a Vindico Mage

Thanks. I actually prefer heavy criticism though because then you can improve on whatever you're doing from the criticism.
I'm thinking of putting in an item creation system as well but i seriously doubt it'll be in the demo. I'm also going to put in a sanity break system but i haven't quite ironed out the details of that yet. Plus there will be quite a few interesting status effects.
I'm surprised my co-producer hasn't posted here yet, i'll have to talk to him.
Has nobody got anything to say about this? Criticisms? Suggestions? Oh and is nobody interested in helping with some of the graphics?

Why haven't I posted? The same reason I can't have fun anymore, because I work.
Well, I might as well get this started.
I'm the co-producer, though that's probably too lofty a title for me.
Anyway, I'm mostly in charge of the Imperial scenario, and bringing their story to light, and I help program some of the features, most notable being the duel system. Let me explain it.
The demo system is unlike any other system to date, which predominantly follow a rock-scissor-paper format. Mine gives you multiple abilities, with the ability to gain more through sidequests, story events, items, etc. Each move has a certain strength against all of your opponent's moves. Those strengths will change depending on your character and your opponent. Four options will be available in the demo (just to show that I can go beyond three), but expect more in later versions.
My other focus is on creating rich, pyschologically deep characters who feel real. Elysium's description does these characters no justice. You have to see it to believe it.
And to break the norm, characters have last names.

Now, now Sic you know that i have to attend college, work as a chef and i'm also a full-time alcoholic. Work is no excuse, plus that implies that you actually do something other than go on msn at work. Just gadding ya.
Co-producer isn't too lofty. Got you roped in, I mean first it was just duel system, then it was the Imperial scenario and then the spells before you know it you'll be doing the whole thing. I'll just make the coffee.
Oh and you're right, the descriptions don't do the characters justice but i can hardly do them justice without spoiling the whole story can I?
Anyway i've learnt how to do a few more things and so expect a few more features to be added. If my dad buggers off to work i'll be able to get a shedload of the demo done next week. If i do that then expect a relase date of late Feb/early March.
I expect each scenario will offer about 20 minutes of playtime or so and there will be teasers about later parts of the game.
Anyone fancy Beta testing it when it's ready?

Just posting to let you know how the game is coming on. The demo release is going to have to be put back slightly due to several factors. The main ones being that I've decided to put in some extra features and the fact I'm going to have to do the battlechars myself which i am admittedly atrocious at. The second lesser reason for the setback is that I've got a new job which requires longer commuting and let's just say different hours. I.e I have to get up four hours earlier than i used to and so am therefore knackered when i finish. A rough approximation on progres goes something like this.
Events: 35%
Storyline: 100%
Character Development: 100%
Graphics: 40%
Voice acting: 0% (This will be all done in one go)
Custom Scripting: Hard to say. Probably 60%
That's just for the demo although the storyline and character development is 100% for the entire series and all the VA for the game will be done in one go most probably. Same as the custom scripting.

Just a quick update. Well I say update. Not much has been done because I've been house hunting and I won't go into details of the other thing I've been doing.
Anyway, yeah the release date is way back but this game will definately get done. The latest thing to get done is something in character development that I'd forgotten about. I've been blanacing character stats. Sic just needs to go over them and then I'll get back to doing proper work on the game unless something else springs up.
