Felix, it was suggested not to make it look deeper. It was suggested so that your maps dont suck. You can change the tileset all you want, but even though youve grown as a mapper, you still have a ways to go.Try a mist or fog or texture overlay. Would make your map blend really well
Some things look a bit out of place,
A lot of times when things look out of place it's because the colors don't match. You could try picking a uniform color palette and applying to everything in the chipset. It's a bit of tedious work but it can pay off.
Some objects are too bright or too dull compared to the rest of the graphics in the map. Change the colors, make them look more natural. Its like when you are painting a wall. You don't normally paint bright pink in a room full of dark tinted objects. (Not best example... but whatever.)Also, here is a picture of what I hope my battle system to look like when I'm done.What do you think? Robur's sprite is being reworked to be smaller, so it'll look better. And his arm is fixed, I just didn't have the updated file at the moment.EDIT: Hahaha, I misspelled Roselana's name. Bahaha
