Say what you wish, all Canadians I've met said "Canada", but the americans said the state.

 We say this because the rest of the world is generally unaware of our provinces. If I say to somebody I meet on the street in say Belgium, that Im from Halifax, or Nunavit, chances are, they wont know what the eff Im talking about. American media has done a pretty good job of familiarising the world with its states.
