'Clashing Graphics'?

It seems to me that I've been seeing the phrase "Your graphics clash" or some form of that for quite some time now. I do see it, but I don't think anybody has mentioned anything about how to avoid it.

You can either try to find a set of graphics that complement each other nicely, or you could style the sprites you make similar to the ones you're already using.

Well, theres many differant styles of graphics. Like some sprites have big heads and are shadeded really good, some sprites have smaller heads and have a more defined border, some are taller sprites. Make sure all your sprites match eachother. A good way to go is to see if they match the style of rtp sprites.
You can have sprites that look one way, and chipsets that look another way, but all your sprites should have the same style, and all your chipsets should have the same style. Its not as obvious with chipsets as it is charsets, but again, some look realistic, some look cartoony, soom looke in between, and well you just gotta look to see if they match. A good thing to do to make chipsets match is to use the same ones for differant things. Lets say you have two forests, you should use the same chipset for both forests. For houses in the same town, you should use the same chipsets. Basically, simular things should have the same chipsets. Differant regeons in your game can have differant chipsets, but their style should still match. Another good thing to do is reuse the same grass and water tiles on a lot of your chipsets, what I did was I copied the grass from a tileset I liked, and I use it in all my maps. It doesn't make much sence if every map in your game has differant grass and water.
Basically, if you can tell that two graphics don't belong together, don't put them together.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN
