 - Message n00bs. Carefully explain to them a brief history and tell them not to get involved in stuff. Their involvement only complicates things and adds fuel to Raffie's small mental bonfire. Put particular emphasis on N00b 2 since he/she seems to take an aggressive approach which will probably inflame the situation and cause a small war between the n00bs, making problems.
 - Bonk trolls. Say something about how they should stop what they are doing and leave before more serious action is taken. Supporting Raffles is retarded and nothing to be proud of. Run IP checks on both, as a precaution.
 - Run IP checks on new Raffles account. Check it against the IP addresses of current members, especially the guy who has already posted, just in case.
 - Get administrative staff involved. Let them decide what to do about Raffles. I personally would suggest that they ban Raffles' account and ignore his empty threats.
 - Keep vigilant for the next few days, in the likely event that Raffles decides to spam the forum or something.

I am aware I will probably have made a number of glaring errors which would probably have opened a great hole in the space-time continuum, but it's 10:23PM and I'm tired.

Mmmkay, time to roll up mah sleeves and put some serious thought in, rather than just VANILLA COKE (which you know you love by the way). And I wasn't being complacent. I just don't want to be a sore loser liarpants like Hillary. Dislike her greatly, I do.
1. Roll eyes. Trolls are kinda pathetic. Kinda really pathetic.
2. Run IPs on trolls and Raffles against each other and forum members.If duplicated, bonk duplicates.
3. PM new folks addresses to previous Raffles threads so they can educate themselves on said "villain" and how he is clearly a threat-- wairt, you mean Charas HASN'T been destroyed yet? Didn't he promise rape, pillage, and doom? Hmm.
4. PM oldies, reminding them not to egg on the troll, because that's what he wants, really.
5. Bonk Raffles, simply because I can. Poor pathetic troll.

 - While I wait, I point out to those fakers that Raffles has left the internet. Also, run some IPs.
 - Basically tell newbs that Raffles was a troll who periodically came back to our forum.
 - Ignore and/or quote all his text and answer with "NO U" (believe me, in the end, it's the best you can do against Raffles)
 - Chaos ensues
 - Admin arrives, bans Raffles
 - I get un-mayored because of my innability to take the situation seriously. And probably a few bonks.

The Right Way:
-Run an IP check on all posters in said thread. I would make a note of all of them for future reference.
-Post a thread in Sanc saying "Raffles is back, don't feed the troll". Maybe a brief history of who he is. For those involved in the thread that can't see Sanc, I would bonk them with it.
-As a second warning, I would post "Don't feed the troll" in Raffles' thread.
-After that was done, I would email all other staff members letting them know about the situation, and to get one of the admins on immediately.
-If any more new members showed up, I would IP them and note their IPs down in my own personal "Who to Ban" list.
-Then, general containment; bonking Raffles, ignoring his posts, etc. If I was able to get an AoA mod on, I would get them to lock all of his threads and move them to Quarantine
-If no AoA mod was on, but another mod was, I would tell them to contain him with bonks; we would continually bonk him, hopefully greatly restricting his ability to post. I would do the same if no other mod was on.
-Once an admin arrived, it would be done, hopefully with minimal damage.


That, naturally, is the way we should do it. And, if the situation arose, I would adapt most of those.

But honestly, "don't feed the troll" doesn't work, and people would continue trying to argue with him. If it got out of hand, I would do one of two things:

-Start bonking people who were posting against him. This could easily be viewed as a very negative thing, but it would get the point across

-Start posting directly. I would mess with his head, and post random stuff that only tangentially related to whatever he was spewing out. Again, this is exactly what a troll wants, but it would keep him occupied for a while (hopefully long enough for a mod or admin to get on)

Unfortunately, one of the latter would probably end up happening. Containment is, in theory, a great idea, but the allure of taking out a villain is just too great for some people... staff included.
