I desperately need something to break the monotony of EX. I remember playing a certain PCRPG waaaay back in the day and, just for laughs, decided to look it up. I found it, played it, and now I have an idea.
I am CONSIDERING creating a RM remake of the old Exile: Escape from the Pit. For those of you who don't know, Exile was a fairly low-budget (but still immense and deep) RPG that came out in the mid-90's. There were a few sequels, and the series officially ended about 2001. I think i'd like to remake the first one using RPG Maker (im still debating which version) just so the more recent gamers can experience the world of Exile, and the retro's who know what im talking about can visit those wondrous caverns once more.
I just want some opinions. Should I try this? Or should I stay away?
(PS, if it will help, i can post a brief summary of the gameplay, plot, etc...)

I made a fortune in toothpicks, but I lost it all in a fire.

Exile: Escape from the Pit
(i'm only a short ways into the game and it's been ages, so if im off on a few details just politely correct me.)
Plot Summary: The world is ruled by an omnipresent, all-powerful Empire. That's right: Empire. Not the Something Empire, or the Empire of Something, just the Empire. That's all there is, because that's all there ever was; the Empire has ruled the world since antiquity, and no one has ever dared to challenge it (that's lived, anyway.) As with all totalitarian monarchies, there are dissenters amongst the Empire's people, and though the Empire has survived until now, the numbers of these rebellious peoples has grown; soon, the Empire may not be able to handle it. Then, a discovery is made...
The Empire's greatest arcane researchers discovered a great network of caves and tunnels below the surface of the world. Miles and miles of caverns and darkness, large enough to hide entire nations. Thanks to Imperial teleportation technology, the existence of these caves is confirmed by first-hand witnesses. Now, there was only the small matter of what to do with them...
Emperor Hawthorn had the perfect idea.
A prison.
A great, foreboding portal was erected on both the surface world and the underground level. The portal on the cave was rigged to allow people to pass through, but not return. Prisoners, criminals, dissenters; anyone who challenged the Empire was dragged to the Portal and hurled through, never to lay eyes on the beauty of the surface world again.
Now it's your turn.
You aren't even sure why you're being sent through; all you know is that this may very well be the last time you'll ever see the surface. As if to taunt you, you are escorted to the portal via an open wagon, bound in chains; it's a beautiful day, with birds chirping and the sun shining. For you, it's torture.
You are dragged before the great portal, which stands as tall as ten men, and are somewhat hastily and clumsily read your charges. You are asked for a plea but, seeing as where you are, you doubt your answer will make a difference. After a few more formalities, the soldiers stand you up and turn you around, to give you one last tantalizing look at the surface, then hurl you through the portal.
The teleportation is hellish. You feel as if your entire body is being torn into a thousand pieces; then, as suddenly as it started, the pain ceases, and you find yourself on a smooth limestone floor. You stand, shivering in the sudden cold, and look around. Before you is a mirror of the portal through which you came. All around you is dim, and the only source of light is a tiny pinprick in the distance. You stand up, and slowly make your way towards the light; you know you are in Exile, and you silently wonder what this new world will hold for you...
