I find that they're good for expressing sarcasm. If I didn't just do that last one, someone might have taken my remark regarding Prpl seriously. I'd rather have people irked by my posting habits than pissed off by misunderstandings.

Purple mages have the traditional attire of hat and robe. It can't be hard to make your character with a hat and robe? Or at least a robe. Or maybe just a hat.
