I'd like some help on how to make a specific sprite please :D

Okay so the sprite I want to make is of this sword: .



Primarily the center blade though. It has multiple points that go in a rather unusual pattern as well as a unique color scheme that I would like to keep. As a person who has never made a sprite, how would you go about doing this and also what are some points for making sprites in general (i.e. number of positions, a good program to use, or something like that)?

Making the jagged point on a rpgm2k3 battle weapon would require it to become quite large. Just a heads up.

The best way to start as a beginner is to take an existing sprite(for example - the RTP battle weapons).
Open the picture with Paint or any other image editing program.
Change the colours as needed and the shape.
The battle weapons have 3 poses during the attack so all 3 of them needs to be changed.
Save the picture under a new name when you're done and remember that it needs to be a BMP or PNG. JPEGS destroys the picture.

I don't know if you still want this or not... but I did this if you like you can use it or you can change the colors and things but this should help you get started.
