THIS TOPIC IS NOW ABOUT FINAL FANTASY VIII.
FINAL FANTASY VII SPOILERS.

On the topic, I have always believed that Ultimecia is in fact Rinoa. There is actually a pretty good sum-up of why I think this in the FAQ that Tina posted. I didn't read the whole thing because I already know the theory (Although I might later, because I like to pretend it's true.) but incase anyone is interested and tl;dr's the faq, here are a few convincing views as to why she might be Rinoa.

-She is sorceress, she outlives normal humans, including her beloved Squall.
-The ending is very weird, and consists mostly of Squall wandering around compressed time, although it SHOWS him being rescued, he may not really have been, which is incentive for Rinoa to compress time, in order to find Squall.
-After being beaten Ultimecia gives her powers to Edea, who at one point in the game gives them to Rinoa. (There is a loop here.)
-Greiver; she gets the ring towards the end of the second disc, and she never gets it back. Whatever you end up naming the ring is what that GF's name is at the end of the game, and why else would Ultimecia have something named that, unless she made it herself.

I'm sure there's more in the FAQ, but there isn't any conclusive evidence. If you think about it though, there isn't any conclusive evidence that Laguna is Squall's father, but that's pretty much a given. Please don't flame, just stating that I think this is true, and make sense of the final boss a little more.
