Yargmaster Cervantes de Leon, has a very interesting storyline and character.

Speaking of him. I just went 15-2 last night just as cervantes. :feelsgood:

Opps. I meant Vertical focused. I am a total and absolute idiot.

Thought so too, didn't seem logical to beat a horizontal user with sidesteps.

Those darn critical finishes are starting to bug me off. So many times I've been close to a victory only to be spammed with two in a row. Especially yoshimitsus and nightmares. How come yoshi's hurt so darn much? It's like 50% of my hp.
Also I'm starting to like potroklos' style (non-alfa), something about that simplistic yet flashy swordplay appeals to me. Also it's a total killer to stab them with forward B, kick 'em up into the air with  >, > B+K, then strike them just as they hit the ground with a B+K. Not sure if enemy players can avoid it though. Feels like they should. Still learning.

That's a move that SHOULD be able to be dodged, developers are dumb. Probably just gonna leave it taht way. Just like Devil Jin. He has three kick moves in his moveset.
The easiest being. ↖.K.↖ (Fly~) and then you can press (A+B)
and shoot his lazer. Three kicks+lazers = death. The combo counter is reset, so they take full damage from the lazer, yet there is no way to dodge the lazer at all.

Okay, my online statistics are surprisingly enough getting worse.
My problem characters are as follow (not that it's like 50% of all characters):
Hilde, I've only met skilled hilde players and I always end up in some sort of stun combo.
Siegfired - curse your skillfully fast attacks with an awful mix of horizontal moves both high and low.
Nightmare - He's too fast, I can't rrrrread you!
Raphael - Almost finish him when he suddenly pop all his brave edge to do some friggishly fast and strong combo moves with all that orange crap
Natsu - Friggin natsu, combos, combos, combos. Who's idea was it to make the launch bombs faster? Up I go and then they summersalt grab me.
Algol - Seriously, he was a pain in SCIV, this time's he's almost even more annoying.
Lexia - That basic combo with 100 different endings is getting on my nerve, one is low, one is a guard impact. Take your pick...
Mitsurugi - nuff said.
Pyrrha Omega - I just don't get how they can allow such a fast character to be sooo strong.
Xiba - hate, hate, h8, hate, hate. I hate this new style. I thought that Kilik and Seung mina in the previous games were annoying. But this hungry ***hole is just bringing forth the dark side in me. That urge to force choke a guy is increasing every single time. He's too fast, got great range, lots of horizontal low, combo moves. In the end I've started jumping a lot since I at least evade some of his goddamn moves.

Currently at lvl 38. Still no Dampierre in the store.

Also: how do you do guard impacts and just impacts? And are clean hits simply a move that hits nothing?
The manual gives me squat. It describes how to make the critical edge and how to quick dash but that's it.

Character customization is my favorite thing about Soul Cal, so I'm looking forward to getting to this one. Especially if they've taken out the armor bonuses. It was really disappointing to make a cool-looking character in IV only to have them suck in actual play.

At the same time, I'm kind of saddened by the absence of some of the characters I liked from the other games. Don't care much about the story, really, but for whatever reason I was pretty attached to Kilik and Sophitia. I guess their fighting styles are in and all, but still, bummer.

I really did enjoy all the story stuff in III, though. I do sort of wish they'd kept with that mold, but alas.

Yes, exactly. A clone is not the character.
I  mean... they took out 7 characters that I liked. That's quite a lot. They can put as many clones as they want, it's still not the same...

And about customization, yes, it's fun, you can replicate existing characters, blah blah... fact remains it's still not the same.

Maybe I'll give it a try at some point, but let's just say I'm far from being excited to try it.

At least they kept Voldo and added Dampierre...

Well, I'm not exactly missing killik and sophitia to be honest. Sophitia played out her part of the history ages ago, and she was pretty much turning into fanservice (really short skirts and bumpers). Killik was also the same thing over and over. "oh noes, soul edge is back! Killik use your awesome buddhistic skills to defeat it!" and then throw in a clingy Xianyau and it's game.

And since this game pretty much lacked backstories or even mentionings of why people are fighting - I barely notice their absence when I'm still fighting people with pretty much the same style.

I personally always chose her Valkyrie-like suit. I don't like barely dressed heroines.

And well, I just don't like the fact they they removed  not 1, not 2, nor 3... but 9 characters, with 7 that I liked.
They did make some clones, but some not. For example, I don't think there is a Talim clone and I actually liked her.

And it's not really their backstories or anything, it's just that I like seeing the same characters.
They could have taken 2-3 characters out... but 9? That's quite a lot...

I'll still give it a try if someone I know has it, but I certainly won't buy it until I'm sure I'll actually liek it despite everything that's been taken out.

I still haven't been able to beat legendary soul. Seems out of my league so much. And the worst part is that I don't have anything good to train at.
We have the easy bots who pretty much stand still and let you give it to them.
Then the normal bots who either stands with their guard up all the time or going all out busting that critical gauge.
And then there's the hard bots who more or less stun combo your arse, stay on your guard and counter with fast low attacks and kick them while they're down.
And lastly the legendary soul mode where you're happy when you beat kilik and start fighting nigtmare only to lose over and over for 30minutes before you finally give up.
I could use something in-between those. The best thing I got are the quick combats. But they are so unpredictable. Possibly a good thing.

Currently at lvl 40. Finally unlocked some shoulder pads. But not the voodo....

I dunno, if I had to choose a character to cut for repetitive story and fanservice, I'd probably ditch Ivy, aha. I can't look at her without feeling a little sympathetic pain -- of course you expect absurd chesticles in Soul Calibur, but. . . man.

Mostly, though, I'm happy Raphael's still in. I'm a sucker for his weapon type, so chances are I'll just. . . play enough to unlock the character creation stuff I like, and then make a bunch of cool-looking rapier wielders to run around with. Thus all character whining is pretty much moot, here.

Ivy will probably not be removed though. They made her story so that she won't age any longer, and she's like the flasgship of boobs for japanese commercials. Saw a pic of an advertisement poster which was a zoom-in on her cleavage. That says something.

So it's been 2 weeks since dampierre was released in the US and on EU xbox. But still no dampierre on the EU PSN. I want that troll...

Been playing some more now and got a crush on the siegfried style, many ways to switch between his stances and an armada of low attacks. Low SWEEPING attacks, good luck sidestepping those.
Xibas style is still mindraping me, there's no way I can read that arse's moves. And they are all hitting in such an arch that trying to avoid them is nearly impossible.
And those frigging natsu explosive bombs. Sends you up in the air and then you're getting airraped by some tigerstriped ninja.
And of course, a new character that's breaking my balls. Alpha potrokolos. I just don't get it, that character was never THAT good when I played him. He's a total ***. Too fast, too many combos, and that frigging attack that they keep spamming. y'know the one where he goes in low and strikes upwards. Hate it. Too fast.

Currently at online rank E3... It's not going good. Frigging namco should fix that thing that lets you disconnect from the server and not get a lose. I've won a couple of times, especially against some faggot french guy with custom made naruto characters. But the moment I win round 3, he disconnects his internet and the battle is ended with the message "lost connection to the opponent". HE*S FRIGGIN DEAD! GIVE ME MY POINTS YOU ASSHOLES!
One might think that namco learned this from SCIV where the exact same thing was possible. If someone disconects and I'm in the lead. Gimme me those points!

Currently at player rank 50. Unlocked some medusa hair and the kitty mask. Although I kinda feel that the game is lacking a bit on armour variation.
