I've been playing this for a while.

My social life has just been lost once again.

I made such awesome progress too.

But if them gems can be found in-game.
I should point out that they can't be found, so much as there is an ingame stock markety thing where you can buy gems for X gold and vice versa. Theoretically you could play said market and get more gold for your gems you just bought.

Is the stock market thingy player controlled?
That tends to make really, really poor economy, if Spiral Knights is anything to go by.

Oh well, I'll see how it works then. Just ordered it. Should drop by in a day or two. The cost was pretty low so it's not like I'll regret it if it isn't living up to my expectations.

I don't quite understand how the gem market works, but I suspect if lots of people buy gems, the price goes up, and etc.

As for servers, there are two types of servers. We got your God Bless The President North American servers and the Hilariously Inaccurate Stereotype European servers. Australians have to go to the US servers, as do I guess all of Asia, but I haven't encountered much in the way of dudes not speaking english.

In the first week, you can swap servers for free, so you can be with your friends and such. Afterwards it'll cost some gems. But! While I have no idea how to go about it yet, or if it's even implemented, there is/will be a system where you can "guest" on other servers for free, which my understanding is that it'll be exactly the same as playing on your home server, only somewhere else.

So I could buy 1 gem for 59 copper. Don't seem too bad.

My firewall is getting me some trouble though. It blocks the connection to the game.
Just getting into the game myself as an elementalist but it's a bit worrying when the first thing that happens is that you're placed in a cue.'

Gotta tweek that firewall and give it another go later tonight

Game is fine and all, nothing totally fancy or something - but it's kinda just another MMORPG. A huge main city with long distances between useful shops, lots of enemies ect.
Kinda like how there are like no real quests so far beside the story mode. You just enter an area and there's this bar and a message pretty much saying "Kill **** and collect ****". You do that and the bar fills up, when full the thing is completed, the "quest giver" opens a shop, you receive some gold and karma(reputation currency) and you get a letter from the person with a thanks and some more money.

Liking the game but wish I had someone to play with beside all them crazy europeans. Some people don't seem to get that I actually don't speak italian.

So far:

pros:
option to dye your gear at pretty much any time you want.
professions don't reset if you learn a new one. I learned huntsman at first then read what it was. And I quickly realised that I didn't need warhorns and bows and whatnot. Got Artificer and tailor instead. Mage weapons and mage armors. Also love that all the armor proficiencies can make bags and runes(not sure what runes does though).
Fast travel, every mmo should have this.
lots of world events.
salvage to get materials from useless gear
individual material spots. Some guy thought he just ninja'd my ore nod, but it was still there for me.

cons:
I've already learnt the 5 skills for Staff, sceptre, focus, dagger and off hand dagger. 5 for all of my 4 elements that is. So 25 skills in total. Hoping that those things you spend points on will be worth it.
Humans. Everyone plays human. Not sure if that's because I'm in some sort of human starting area though. Gotta check that, it would make sense.
Consumable ammounts on farming items like the pickaxe, bushpicker and woodcutter axe. also the salvage items. It's not like monster hunter where there's a chance they'll break. You get like 100 or 50 in one stack and use them up.
trident. I have a trident as a weapon but not sure how to use it.
Bank, I accessed my bank, dropped some items I couldn't use and went back ot get them later. Didn't find a bank though. Later turned out that I accessed it through my proficiency item creator thingy.
Overflow- not exactly sure what it even means but when enter a new area and such I am told that I'm in an overflow server since the original server is full. After some time I get a message that the server got room for me. Travel or stay. Place looks the same, I can do quests, level up and find items. So I have no idea what it means.

So you chose a server! This is your home server. There are a lot of people using it.
But then, in some areas, there are too much people! Once it reaches it a cut-off point, people who join that same area will be put into an overflow server.
There are many overflow servers and they're not specific to any one server (as I understand it). You're not penalised for being put into this server, you can do virtually anything you can do in the normal server. There's only a couple of things you can't do, though the only one I can recall is checking the WvWvW stats. Not a big deal. If you're playing with friends and they're in the overflow server and you're not, you can just join them manually. Too easy.

tl;dr overflow servers aren't anything bad

Out of the 8 classes, Elementalists can use the 2nd lowest amount of weapons with 6 (2 main, 1 two hand, 2 off hand and 1 underwater) though it's made up with how you essentially get 4x more skills with each weapon.
As for banks yeah they're usually found in the race towns, though I think you can find them elsewhere too. But it's easier to use the crafting stations since they're a little more common. I don't know why this is a con?

Yeah I treid 4 classes, and I stuck with the elementalist. lvl 23 now And gearing up my SP for the elite skills. This game is just too fun.

ANd I think the overflow servers are nice. I get a lot od d/c error on the actual servers.

Oh just because there was no information whatsoever how to access your bank. Learned that you can just click an item and chose "send to deposit" or something and it's sent to your bank from your inventory. So the banking system is now a pro. Nothing beats not having to throw out items, just send them to the bank right away. Just crafting materials and such though.

Okay I'm having a great time with this. Game is well done and challenging enough. Not sure what's there as endgame contents though.
Been trying out the different classes and find it odd that there's only 5 character slots but 8 classes.
Engineers barely have any weapons. There's the gun, off hand gun, off hand shield 2 handed gun and water gun. Pretty good damage but no skills that got me hooked.
Rangers, just weren't for me. Felt like the everyday hunter class with pet and all.
Thief, pretty interesting way to make the steal command. Liking it, fun to play.
Mesmer, didn't charm me any. Some interesting skills but overall kinda boring.
Necromancer were pretty interesting as well, pets to sacrifice and some interesting skills. They also have this overlimit mode where you get some stronger moves.
Warriors, I didn't have much hope for this class, according to MMO law they are more or less forced to attack enemies to gain rage which allows for stronger/any skills. They decided to give warriors rage yes, but when using a skill that uses it the damage/effect is dependent on how much rage you got instead of using rage as a resource for skills. Pretty interesting but overall a kinda stale class. Might get better with levels.
Guardians got buffs you can pop to get an immediate effect. This would be cool and all if it weren't for most utility runes being the exact same thing. Nice supply of damage and defensive skills though.

Still loving the elementalist, using scepter and dagger. Gives some great skills. Some movement with air, some healing with water, some AoE with earth and awesome damage as fire.
Currently at 17 with that one and my only regret is that I didn't remade him so I could name him "Marduk the wise" instead of the improvised Malluk(since marduk was taken), sounds like an ogre.
Leveling professions(artificer and tailor) are surprisingly easy, well if you got the materials. The discovery plane (where you mix items to get recipes) wasn't so hard when you figured it out. As artificer I have 2 components for each type of weapon. Then I make myself a signet thingy that gives a stat bonus. Mix those two items with the signet and we've just created a new item and a free level or such. Repeat the process with every signet for every weapon type until you unlock new items and more signets.

Also took part of this huge event in Queensdale to defeat the shadow behemoth. Problem with this game though. Too many flashy and awesome animations. With that many people at the same place it gets pretty laggy and fps drops and all that. Got some great loot from it though, and it sure was an experience.

Transmuting gems are pretty cool, just too greedy to use them myself.
And yeah dyes. I keep finding them randomly, like from gathering mushrooms and stuff. I was lucky to find a rare dark purple colour so I'm the happiest elementalist alive.
Someone mentioned that you can make random dyes with cooking, not sure if it's right though. I wish they were linked to the account 'cuz there are just so many of them.

Elementalist is currently at 22.

I didn't much like them. But then again I didn't like the engineer and gave it up before getting any of the interesting toolkits.

So what's so great about the mesmers?

They dominate pvp, and are essential for most higher end pve.

Also, in the previous game, they dealt true/unresisted damage, which made them vastly superior to elementalists in terms of damage. Dunno if that still holds true.

They just suck *** for general pve.
But still, <3
