Hey whats up guys.
Not sure if you remember my Dude the Super Fighter Comic (
http://www.charas-project.net/forum/index.php?topic=26476.0
). It is a story and world I have been working on for many years now. Well I have consolidated a lot of my scattered ideas and materials and have been writing a cohesive Novel that tells the story of Dude and many other characters. I thought I would share the first few chapters with you guys, see what you think so far.
The Dude world is very inspired by Feudal Japan and many names and locations are a play on Japanese words. Dude originally started as a stick man Dragon Ball Z comic when I was in early high school and has continued to grow and expand from there.
Enjoy,

DTSF: The Legend of Otto
V0.25
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
-Edmund Burke
Prologue:
Many years ago in the mystical land of Densetsu there lived a special man named Otto. Otto was unlike any human being. His spiritual and physical powers were beyond measure. He was a master of martial arts and could wield any weapon with deadly skill. Otto was a simple man with a strong moral code. He believed in good and did everything in his power to enforce it. Otto quickly became a legend across the land of Densetsu for his legendary deeds of vanquishing evil when it arose.
Densetsu is home to many different creatures, races and species. Humans are the most plentiful and common, but Humanimals are also very common. Humanimals are a hybrid mixture of human and a species of animal. They come in many types like pigmen, bullmen, birdmen or lizardmen to name a few.
The Land of Densetsu is a giant island with many smaller islands located around it. The main land mass is broken up into 8 regions. Each region is ruled by a different Clan yet a multitude of different clans live within each region. Warring between the clans is a daily occurrence and power struggles are always on going. True peace is nothing but an unrealistic ideal in this land.
To make matters worse there is a race of monsters called the Akuma who frequently roam the lands of Densetsu. The Akuma are vicious demons who are hell bent on destroying all life across the land. The Akuma come in many different shapes, sizes and types but all share the same hatred toward the living creatures of Densetsu. For the last few years the Akuma activity has been on the rise and sightings of Akuma has become an almost daily occurrence. The origins of the Akuma are unknown but they are viewed as a global threat to the land of Densetsu and are treated as such by its inhabitants.
Otto formed his own Clan, the Shizukesa Clan. They are a clan of righteous individuals that fight for the greater good. They are small in number but they make up for it with superb combat prowess. The Shizukesa Clan tries to avoid conflicts between the other clans but will stop at nothing to kill the Akuma and rid the land of their demonic corruption.
Otto has two brothers, Rowba and Korioji. Korioji is a kind hearted soul and an exceptional fighter like Otto, while Rowba is a bit rougher around the edges and doesn’t care to fight so he built his own farm and dedicated himself to it.
Otto met a lovely woman by the name of Okasa. They instantly fell in love and have been together ever since. After a few years together they had a child that they named Dude. Otto wanted Dude to start martial arts training as early as possible so he would grow up to be as strong if not stronger than himself. When Dude was a young child Otto would make him work on Rowba’s farm. Over the years Otto continued to physically and mentally challenge Dude, but Dude was ambitious and out performed Otto’s expectations consistently. By the time Dude was the age of twelve he was already stronger than an average human. At that time Otto decided it was time to begin Dudes true combat training.
Three years pass…

Chapter 1: A Call from The Past
It was a nice sunny day as Otto was training with Dude.
“Remember to keep up your guard!” Otto corrected. “That is an easy way to get hit in the face!”
Otto raised his fists then quickly rushed Dude who stood his ground in a fighting pose. Otto punched wildly as Dude evaded and blocked his attacks. Korioji sat on a nearby boulder watching the pair while they sparred. He wore a traditional red shirt with baggy white pants. His black hair was pulled into a top knot that stuck straight up.
Dude quickly adjusted to the attacks, he was a fast learner. He side stepped and did a spin kick connecting with Otto’s ribs. Otto let out a small grunt as he was struck then swiftly grabbed Dude’s leg.
“Good strike, but you left your guard down again!” Otto held Dude’s leg high then struck him in the chest sending him backwards to the ground. Dude landed with a thud. Otto adjusted his red overshirt.
“Sorry Father, It won’t happen again!” Dude dusted off his blue training gi and rose back to his feet. He struck his fighting pose again.
“That is enough for now son.” Otto patted Dude on the head and rustled his brown hair. Korioji stood up.
“Awww! Come on, just a bit more!” Dude pleaded. He loved to fight and wanted to get better and better.
“You have been improving greatly Dude.” Korioji commented. “You really are a quick learner.”
Dude looked at Korioji and smiled. Otto looked off into the distance. Korioji could tell he was distracted.
“Dude, I want you to go see your mother in the house and help with dinner. Korioji and I will be there shortly.” Otto said abruptly.
“Alright, if you say so.” Dude looked at his Father curiously. He knew something was the matter, but would never question his Father’s wishes. He proceeded back to the house.
Korioji walked over and stood next to Otto. “What is it brother?”
“I can sense a couple strong beings heading this way.” Otto explained.
“Are they Akuma?” Korioji asked as he clenched his fists ready for a fight.
“No. They are humans.” Otto picked up his sword that was leaning against a rock and fastened it back to his waist.
“Coming from the north? It must be the Hajima Clan. What could they want here?” Korioji scratched his head.
“They are coming for me.”
“What? What for?” Korioji stammered.
“We will find out soon.” Otto could see the dust from several horses coming down the road in the distance.
Korioji and Otto stood their ground as the riders approached. The Hajima Clan banners were waving rapidly as they rode.
“It is definitely the Hajima Clan.” Korioji said.
“Let me do the talking.” Otto stood slightly ahead of Korioji.
Five men on horses roared up to Otto and Korioji. Dust followed them as they came to a halt. The men were clad head to toe in plate armor that was coloured in the Hajima Clan colours of red and black. The main rider removed his helmet. He was bald and had a well trimmed beard of brown hair. His left eye was all white with no pupil. A scar ran down his face over the dead eye. His gaze was stern and piercing.
“Well if it isn’t my old rival Otto!” the man on the horse looked down upon Otto. “It has been a long time…”
“Not long enough, Dordus. What do you want here?” Otto snapped.
“Such a warm welcome, I expected more to be honest. With such a rich history, we should be the best of friends.” Dordus sarcastically quipped.
“Speak your purpose and then remove yourself from my land.” Otto clenched his fists.
“I am no message boy! I come here strictly on Emperor’s orders. If things weren’t as dire as they are, you wouldn’t catch me within a hundred miles of this place.” Dordus rustled through his pack. He removed a sealed scroll and tossed it to Otto who quickly caught it.
“Read it over and decide quickly!” Dordus watched Otto closely.
“So ‘dis is ta great Otto? He dun’t look very tough!” One of Dordus’s men chimed in. He lifted the face shield on his helmet to reveal his ugly pig face. He was a pigman, greasy and disgusting. He was part of the Red Swine Clan, allied under the Clan Hajima banner.
“You watch your mouth Pig!” Korioji snapped.
“And what’r you gon’ do ‘bout it!” The pigman challenged. He wiped his sweaty brow.
“I’ll kick your ***! That’s what!” Korioji took a fighting pose.
Otto broke the seal on the scroll and began to read it over:
Dear Otto,
My old friend and master, a time has come when fate has crossed our paths yet again. A new threat has emerged that threatens life as we know it. I extend my hand to you in hopes that our savior will return. Please meet me at my castle so we can further discuss these events.
Signed,
Kojima Kadam Emperor of Clan Hajima
“Is dat so?!” The pigman climbed down from his steed. The horse looked relieved to have that weight off his back.
“Enough!” Otto said sternly. He rolled the scroll back up and stuffed it in his overshirt.
The pigman waddled over to Otto. “Not so tough when der’s some one up in y’r face” The pig snorted then poked Otto in the chest.
The next moment was a blur as Otto kicked out the pig’s legs and drove his elbow into the fat pig sending him crashing hard to the ground. By the time Dordus and his men even realized what happened the pig was already on his back reeling from the blow.
The pig screamed in agony and coughed up blood. “You cheap punk!” he squealed.
“Now all of you get out here before I do something I will regret.” Otto stood over the gagging pig. His glance quickly shot to Dordus and the rest of his riders. “Now!” he yelled.
“Piega!” Dordus shouted, “Let’s go!” He motioned to the riders and they prepared to leave.
“I’ll git you fer this!” Piega yelled as blood and spit flew from his mouth. He struggled back onto his horse and growled.
“Make your decision quickly Otto. If you haven’t arrived by sun down tomorrow, then we will come back and with greater numbers too!” Dordus threatened.
Dude exits the house and approaches Otto and Korioji. “Dinner is ready Father.”
“Is this your son Otto? He looks just like you. Remember, sun down tomorrow! I would hate for anything to happen to your son.” Dordus chuckled, and then he and his riders rode off into the distance. Otto gritted his teeth at the threat.
“Is everything ok father?” Dude questioned.
“Yes son, everything is fine. Let us go have dinner. Come Korioji, we will finish this business later.” Otto followed Dude back to the house.
“Good I’m famished!” Korioji followed behind.
The three of them entered to find Okasa putting the roast beast down on the table.
“Perfect timing.” She smiled. “Dinner is hot and ready. Please sit.” She motioned to the chairs.
“Thanks for having me for dinner.” Korioji said. He grabbed a napkin and put it on his lap. Korioji was a stickler for politeness. Unless of course, it was towards his enemy, then anything goes.
“Don’t be silly Korioji. It is our pleasure.” Okasa flashed her big smile again.
The four began to eat. It was a wonderful meal of potatoes, vegetables and roast beast. It was a quiet dinner though. Otto had a lot on his mind. Dude and Korioji would sporadically look over at him. They knew something was going on but didn’t know what to say. Okasa wanted to start a conversation but she could sense the tension in the room and decided to say nothing.
“What a great meal!” Korioji let out a big breath and leaned back in his chair. “I’m stuffed!”
“I am glad you enjoyed it!” Okasa got up from her chair and began to clear the table.
“Let me help you mom.” Dude said as he stood.
“It is getting late. I should probably get going” Korioji stated.
“I’ll see you out.” Otto stood and the two of them proceeded outside. They walked away from the house as they chatted.
“So what is the game plan Otto?” Korioji questioned.
“I have to go see the emperor. I can’t take a chance on those thugs coming back.” Otto looked at the night sky and admired the stars.
“I don’t see this working out. You remember what happened in the past. Kojima betrayed you and tried to have you killed.” Korioji reminisced.
“There was a lot going on then. I don’t fully blame him for how things unraveled. In the end it was that series of events that led me to meet Okasa. I'm not too worried. I am much stronger now than I was and if it involves the Akuma then I must know what is happening.” Otto explained.
“I see what you’re saying, but I don’t trust the Emperor or the Hajima clan at all.” Korioji sighed. “Just be careful alright.”
“I understand brother. Please take care of Dude and Okasa for me while I'm gone.”
“Can you at least take Buredo or Mishika with you?” Korioji questioned.
“No. This is something I must do alone. I will return as quickly as I can. I promise.”
Otto and Korioji shook hands and nodded.
“Good night brother. I will see you some time tomorrow.” Korioji strolled off into the night.
Otto headed back inside. Okasa was sitting at the dining room table. She had the special ability to read people’s thoughts and she could also see short glimpses of a person’s future. These abilities were a gift and a curse. Okasa kept this a secret from everyone except Otto. She had a perplexed look on her face. Otto approached her and held her hand. He could tell that she was concerned.
“I’m sorry. But you know I have to.” Otto said. His voice was comforting but Okasa hardly felt comforted.
“Kojima is not to be trusted. Not even for a second! I am worried about your future, Otto. I have seen some dark and horrible things, a great suffering is coming. Things I would never wish upon anyone, especially you my love!” Her eyes began to tear up but she quickly wiped them.
“Quiet your mind my dear.” Otto wrapped his arms around her. “You know your visions are never set in stone. I will use all my power to make sure these things do not happen. But these are also the reasons why I must go. I can’t sit idly by and let evil and darkness grow ever stronger. I am the only one strong enough to set things right.”
“You do too much.” She sniffled. “These should not be the burdens of one man. There are plenty of strong fighters in the world.” She began to sob. “I don’t want to lose you!”
“You won’t. I promise.”
Dude lay in his bed listening to them talk. His mother was right; this shouldn’t be the burden of one. He too would help. He would become strong, even stronger than his father. He would vanquish evil and save everyone from the darkness. This was his dream.
The next morning came too soon. The sun shone extra bright, like it was trying to mask the darkness that crept ever closer. Otto stood at the bedroom window and watched as it rose to the sky. He saw Dude out in the field training. He smiled. He knew Dude had a great future ahead of him. He was proud of his son.
He grabbed his sword off the mantle and exited the bedroom into the kitchen. Okasa had already prepared a hearty breakfast to fuel Otto for his long journey. Otto sat down and began to eat.
“I got you some koeba bread for your journey.” She handed Otto the bread which was wrapped in a red cloth. Koeba bread is special bread that never goes bad and contains special ingredients that completely nourish and recharge whoever eats it.
“Thank you Okasa, but I don’t plan on being that long.” Otto said as he placed the bread on the table.
“I want you to take it just in case. Please… do it for me.” She batted her eyes. Otto couldn’t resist. He grabbed the bread and put it inside his jacket.
“Alright, if you insist…” Otto stood up and held Okasa in his arms. “Nothing will keep me from coming back to you and Dude.” The two lovingly kiss and say goodbye to each other.
Otto headed out towards the stable. Dude was nearby practicing his strikes. He punched and kicked the air with a deadly swiftness. Otto approached him.
“Very nice attacks son.” Otto complimented. “You make sure to take care of your mother until I return.”
“Of course I will father! I won’t let anything happen while you're gone!” Dude smiled.
“I know you won’t.” Otto chuckled. “I am only hoping to be gone for one or two days. I should be back before you know it!” He smiled at Dude. “I’ll see you soon!”
“Take care father!” Dude waved vigorously.
Otto approached the stable door. He opened the latch and swung open the large wooden door. Inside was a huge brown horse munching on his breakfast hay. This was no regular horse though, it is a Hanuma. The Hanuma are an extremely powerful and rare breed of horse with the ability to speak. This Hanuma’s name was Darta.
“Otto, my man, how’s it going?” the horse spoke. “Is it time for an adventure?”
“It sure is Darta. Are you feeling fast today?” Otto grinned.
“I’m always feeling fast!” The horse neighed in excitement. “Where are we off to today?”
“I need to get to Hakaris.” Otto answered.
“Hakaris! Are you crazy? What in the green grasses are you going there for? You do remember how we barely escaped from there back in the day?” Darta exclaimed. His voice lost some of its confidence.
“Well a time has come where I must return and time is of the essence.” Otto explained while he put a saddle on Darta’s back.
“Alright boss. I’ll get you there in no time.” Darta puffed out his chest trying to look tough.
Otto fastened the straps on the saddle and hopped on top. The two exited the stables to find Korioji outside waiting for them. Otto and Korioji exchanged glances and nodded to each other.
“Let’s ride Darta!” Otto snapped his legs on the horse. Darta reared and then charged forward down the road.
“Good luck brother! Hurry back!” Korioji yelled as they rode off. Otto looked back. He noticed Dude and Okasa standing near the house waving good bye, he waved back.
“Darta, I need to visit McLemore before we leave the village.” Otto told the horse.
“Not a problem boss!” The horse neighed. He veered and changed his course.
The two darted down the road and up a ledge towards a large rocky hill. The road spiraled around it like a corkscrew until it got to the top. A single shack held together with all manner of material stood at the top. A campfire was roaring with a large pot full of a boiling liquid. As the two pulled up, an old man exited the shack.
His hair was long, grey and very dirty. He wore brown rags with more holes than swiss cheese and a floppy hood draped over his face.
“Well hello Otto!” the old man yelled.
“Hello McLemore, how are you this fine day?” Otto greeted back.
“Busy… always busy.” The old man bustled about digging through random piles of assorted junk. “What brings you here?”
“I need some potions. I am taking a journey to the Hajima Region…” Otto tried to explain but was quickly interrupted.
“Hajima?! Oh no, no, no!” The old man stared blankly then scuttled inside his shack. Random bits of trash flew out from the shack as he rustled through another large pile of junk.
Otto waited atop Darta. He knew McLemore was wise but a bit on the weird side. He would eventually produce what Otto was after, but he had a method to his madness and you had to let him go through the motions.
“Ah ha!” McLemore shouted. He shuffled out from his shack. “My newest mixture! Guaranteed to heal even the nastiest of wounds!” He handed the bottle to Otto who stuffed it in his jacket.
“I was hoping I could also get a sleep potion.” Otto asked.
“Ahh, sleep potion eh?” McLemore scratched his scruffy facial hair and tugged on his beard. He hustled back into his shack.
Otto peered inside the shack and could see many tubes and bottles all interconnected across a short table. He saw McLemore placing his hands on several of the bottles before quickly retracting them. He mumbled to himself while moving swiftly between the different bottles of coloured liquids. McLemore paused for a moment then snapped his gaze on a bottle of grey liquid. He rushed over and grabbed it then rushed out of his shack back to Otto.
“This is a very potent concoction now, do be careful. About three drops for every hour of sleep that you desire.” McLemore explained and then handed over the bottle. Otto put it in his jacket.
“I thank you McLemore.” Otto nodded. “But I must take my leave.”
“You take care now! Come back if you need anything more!” the old man said. He smiled a grin of rotted teeth then quickly scampered back into his shack.
Darta exploded back down the spiral road and to the main highway that lead north towards the Hajima Region. Within minutes Otto’s village disappeared behind them.

Chapter 2: Burn Away
The pair rode down the highway for about two hours before Otto began to notice smoke in the distance wafting into the sky. He was torn inside. He knew he had a time limit to get to the Emperor’s castle but also couldn’t willingly turn his back on someone in trouble.
“Turn here Darta. I need to get to that smoke and make sure everything is ok.” Otto said to the horse.
“Sure thing boss!” Darta quickly adjusted his trajectory and began towards the smoke. It wasn’t too far out of the way. Otto was sure he had plenty of time to help these people and still make it to the castle. He knew there was a small farming village in that direction. He had visited there a few times.
As they approached the village they noticed several homes were on fire. Some of the houses were completely engulfed in flames while some were just starting to catch. Otto spotted a group of people. He tapped Darta on the neck and pointed. Darta raced towards them.
They pulled up to the group to find a few humans trying to fight back against some nasty looking creatures. Otto knew immediately that they were Akuma, and more specifically flamants. Flamants are insect demons with a spiky off-brown carapace. They have large mandibles and massive claws and a real ferocious disposition. They can also breathe flames and shoot razor sharp spines from their bodies.
“Get away from here you beast!” the farmer yelled at the creature while flailing a pitch fork through the air.
The Akuma grabbed the pitch fork and yanked it from the farmer’s hands then slashed him with his claws. Blood sprayed from the slash as the human collapsed to the ground.
“You bastard” yelled another human who ran up behind the creature striking him with a wooden club.
The creature turned and swung, shredding the human’s face. He fell to the ground screaming in pain while grabbing at the wound.
Otto quickly jumped from Darta’s back. While flying through the air he drew his sword and slashed the creature in half. Orange ooze sprayed forth as the creatures body split apart.
“Thank you stranger!” one of the humans said to Otto.
“There’s more over the ridge there!” another human yelled as he pointed. Otto looked over and he could see more of the creatures running around slaughtering villagers and spewing flames on the houses. A few of the creatures turned and began to run towards Otto and the other villagers.
“You all need to get some buckets and start putting out those fires. I will deal with these creatures!” Otto ordered the humans who were standing around in a panic. They regrouped then began to grab anything that could contain water.
“I’ll help too boss! I will be able to carry plenty of water!” Darta volunteered. He stood on his hind legs lifting an empty barrel in his arms and then followed the humans towards the nearby lake.
Otto charged the approaching creatures with his sword drawn. Some of them carried weapons which seemed odd to Otto, but it didn't matter. He spotted a massive flamant down the road that was torching multiple homes. That creature was a cause for concern though.
One of the approaching creatures fired several spines but Otto side stepped them then kicked the creature in the face quickly followed by a sword slash. The creature’s arm severed and fell to the dirt. Ooze gushed and splashed as the creature flailed its remaining claw, but Otto was calm and evaded the creature’s attacks then made a swift sword strike that beheaded the creature.
More creatures closed in on Otto, they swung their weapons with rage. Otto parried the attacks then countered with his sword cleaving their limbs off one at a time. Otto breathed heavily as he stood over the severed corpses.
“Ni’rak klik karak!” one of the creatures yelled as he pointed at Otto. More of the creatures began to pour out from the burning village. There must have been at least twenty of them charging down towards Otto.
Otto didn’t like to reveal his true powers often but certain times called for it, and this was one of those times. Otto began to concentrate as blue-ish energy flickered around his body. He looked as if he was on fire as the energy gathered around him. Otto let loose a powerful yell that sent out a shock wave knocking some of the creatures to the ground. The remaining creatures charged Otto but he moved with such a speed that he became a blur. Body parts began to fly and ooze began to rain as deadly sword arcs tore through the air like lightning bolts.
One of the creatures fired spines but Otto put out his hand and yelled as a wave of energy disintegrated the spines to dust. Otto gathered more energy in his hand and hurled it at several of the creatures. The energy ball exploded violently sending ooze and bodies through the air. Otto noticed the massive creature was fixated on him and was approaching fast. He was over three times as big as the other flamants and had four legs instead of two. His claws were massive and a molten liquid oozed from its mouth.
“You meddlesome pest!” it screeched, “You dare challenge Braxx and his brood?” The creature stomped close and swung his massive claw. Otto dove to the ground and rolled back to his feet. The creature’s massive claw cracked the earth as it struck the ground. It turned its head and spewed liquid flame. Otto raised his hands and roared as a bubble of energy encircled him pushing the flames back. They twisted in the air and dispersed.
Braxx struggled to free his claw from the ground as more flamants engaged Otto. They swung their weapons as Otto met each swing with his own sword. Otto quickly countered one of the demons cleaving it in half just as another flamant’s blade struck him in the arm. Otto winced then quickly struck the creature back killing it. Blood began to gush from the cut on his arm.
Meanwhile the villagers were loading water from the nearby lake and tossing it on the burning houses.
“This is hopeless!” one of the villagers cried out. “The fires are too big!”
Darta arrived with a barrel full of water and dumped it on one of the houses extinguishing the flames.
“We have to keep trying!” He neighed.
Two flamants arrived and began to attack the panicked villagers. Their morale was already shattered and they began to flee in all directions. Darta charged one of the demons kicking it in the chest. The creature’s carapace cracked and shattered oozing blood then it collapsed to the dirt with a weak screech.
The other flamant began to take a deep breath but Darta quickly struck him in face causing the creature’s neck to snap and its skull to cave it. It gurgled as it fell to the ground.
Darta looked over at where Otto was fighting and saw him overwhelmed and surrounded. He began to gallop as swiftly as possible towards Otto.
Braxx freed his claw from the earth and turned to Otto who was still fighting several flamants. Otto dodged and countered felling several more flamants before one charged him from behind. The flamant slammed into him hard and he stumbled forward dropping his sword. Braxx spewed more liquid flame but Otto dove to the side. The flames engulfed several of the flamants incinerating them instantly.
“Foolish mortal! I will feast on you!” Braxx roared as he charged.
Otto quickly got his footing and surveyed his surroundings. He began to run as Braxx barreled towards him. Darta charged past Otto and leapt towards Braxx but was swatted out of the air. Darta went flying and crashed into a wagon and some wooden crates.
Otto halted and looked back to see his friend get launched through the air. He gritted his teeth and began to charge his energy again. Blue-white energy danced across his body as Braxx drew closer. Otto tried to prepare an energy blast but Braxx arrived faster than anticipated. Braxx snatched him up in his massive hands and held Otto in front of his face.
“You killed my brothers! Prepare for the slow agony of digestion!” Braxx grumbled as he opened his mouth wide.
Otto closed his eyes and began to concentrate. He only had one shot at this and it was a very hard technique to pull off under normal circumstances, let alone with a giant demon about to eat you. Drool flowed from Braxx’s mouth as the thought of devouring a human filled his mind. Braxx opened his fingers to let his victim fall into his gaping mouth when suddenly Otto completely vanished.
“What is this? Come back here!” Braxx roared in anger. His frustration began to mount.
Otto reappeared nearby. He had used a displacement technique that teleports you to a random nearby location. It is the perfect trick for escaping, but can be a very unreliable technique because you can’t control where you end up. Braxx thrashed around for a moment then composed himself. He looked around and spotted Otto.
“There you are! You can’t escape me!” Braxx frothed at the mouth and charged towards Otto.
Otto ran and quickly retrieved his katana then turned and faced the demon with his blade ready. Braxx continued his furious charge and fired spines from his shoulders. Otto slashed the spines as they flew towards him. Braxx swung his huge claw at Otto but missed. Otto slashed along the beast’s side but the sword scraped along the demon’s carapace and was unable to slice through it.
Braxx turned and swung another huge claw but Otto evaded and slashed back. Braxx laughed as the blade barely scratched his armored hide and then back handed Otto sending him flying through the air. Otto landed on his feet but slid backwards through the dirt creating a large dust cloud. Braxx fired more spines into the cloud. Otto only saw the spines as they pierced through the veil of dust. He tried to deflect the spines but was quickly overwhelmed. Three spines hit him in the chest. They stabbed into him like large knives piercing his flesh. Otto groaned and fell backwards onto the dirt as blood flowed from the wounds. The dust began to clear as Braxx approached the wounded Otto.
“I must admit, for a human you put up quite the fight!” Braxx began to laugh as he stood over his wounded foe.
Otto tried to stand but his body was in so much pain. Braxx reached towards him ready to consume his tasty treat. Otto closed his eyes.
“I’m sorry Okasa, I’m sorry Dude.” He whispered to himself as the end closed in. “I failed you.”
Just as Braxx picked up Otto in his hand Darta charged up and punched the demon in the jaw. Braxx’s head snapped to the side from the impact, he roared in anger and dropped Otto.
“Come on Otto, we’ve got to get out of here!” Darta tried to lift Otto onto his back but Otto struggled to get to his feet. His wounds bled more as he tried to force himself up.
Braxx’s eyes burned with fire as he looked upon the two struggling mortals. He swung his massive claw scoring a deadly hit on Darta. Blood sprayed as the claw tore flesh from the Hanuma’s body. Darta landed several feet away, lifeless.
“Noooo!” Otto screamed in rage and sadness. He stood up, holding his bloody wounds with his left hand. A tear rolled down his face as anger consumed him. His right hand began to glow an intense blue as energy gathered in his palm.
“You monster!” he yelled as he hurled a massive ball of energy at Braxx.
The energy ball struck the demon in the side and exploded. Braxx fell to the side and crashed to the ground. A large chunk of carapace was destroyed, orange blood oozed from the gigantic wound. Braxx roared in pain. Otto hobbled over to Darta’s body.
“I’m sorry my old friend, this was never supposed to happen.” He said as old memories of his friend ran through his mind. He reached into his jacket, removed the healing potion that McLemore gave him and popped the top off the bottle.
“I hope this works.” He whispered, and then poured the liquid down the horse’s mouth.
“You insolent pest! How dare you wound me like this!” Braxx struggled to his feet. “I will make you pay for this! I’ll tear your limbs off one at a time!”
Otto turned towards Braxx. His energy was drained, his body beyond repair. He closed his eyes. He was defeated, there was no hope.
Braxx limped over to Otto and raised his massive claw. Otto’s eyes quickly opened. He reached into his jacket, pulled out the bottle of grey liquid and hurled it with all his might into the huge demon’s mouth. It flew straight down his throat as he roared. The demon choked and coughed.
“What was that? No matter! You… will… die…” Braxx’s eyes began to close on him as the sleeping potion took effect. He stumbled and fell forward landing on top of Otto.
Otto’s legs were crushed under the massive demon. He lay there staring at the sky unable to move, life slowly drifting away from him. The sun will be setting soon. He had failed everyone. The weight of his failure was heavy. He closed his eyes and accepted his death.
“I’m sorry…” he whispered.

Chapter 3: The Sun Down Showdown
Okasa sat in the kitchen battling with one of her visions. It was powerful and struck suddenly. Her mind quickly turned to darkness. Everything around her withered and shriveled into a sickly grey. Reality itself was melting into a thick oily blackness. The black liquid began to rise as she fought to stay above it. The liquid churned and tossed her about. She struggled to breathe as the liquid intensified. The blackness began to swirl as a vortex formed below. Black strands crept up from the vortex below and grabbed at her legs, they were trying to pull her under. She fought as much as she could but the black strands wrapped themselves around her legs and pulled her deeper. Everything spun as she was sucked down into the swirling vortex. She was still submerged and unable to breathe, she was going to drown soon. Suddenly she felt weightless and began to fall. Flames quickly rose around her, the heat was intense.
She landed suddenly on what seemed like rock. She could finally breathe again and gasped for air. The air was putrid and foul, she coughed and gagged. Standing up and looking around she could tell this was not Densetsu; it was a world of fire and death. She looked over the ledge and down into the valley below. It was full of Akuma, an army of them. Her jaw dropped as she laid her eyes on the biggest Akuma she had ever seen. Her body began to burn as she gazed upon him yet she was unable to look away. The massive demon was so gargantuan it made the other Akuma look like ants in comparison. The Akuma were all gathering but she couldn’t tell why. She was too far away on a distant cliff to make out anything below.
Suddenly someone approached her from behind. She turned to face them; her fear grew. She had never experienced a vision like this before. Normally they were just complex visuals, but this one was real, she could feel it. The figure stepped forward into the light, it was Otto. Okasa rubbed her eyes and looked in disbelief. She wondered how Otto could be here.
“My love, you must go! Time is running out! They are coming and you must run! You must save Dude!” Otto told her.
Okasa tried to speak but words wouldn’t come. She reached out for him but everything went black and suddenly her eyes opened. She was sitting at the kitchen table, sweat pouring down her face. Her skin was red and throbbing. She looked around in a daze while reality set back in.
She looked out the kitchen window. The sun was setting; it was already behind the mountains.
Dude was outside training. His determination was unmatched. Korioji stood nearby giving pointers on how to improve his technique. Korioji watched the sun slowly slink away. He thought about Dordus’s threat but shrugged it off. He knew Otto would come through. He always did.
The door of the house swung open and Okasa rushed out towards Korioji and Dude.
“Okasa what’s the matter? Why are you in such a huff?” Korioji asked. Dude looked at his mother and began to worry.
“It’s Otto; he didn’t make it to Hakaris in time! They’re coming!” Okasa replied. She grabbed Dude by the hand.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! What makes you so sure?” Korioji questioned.
Okasa pointed down the road to a big dust cloud that was growing closer.
“Oh crap! They are!” Korioji panicked.
“Is father ok?” Dude asked, scared and confused. He had no idea what was happening.
“I don’t know.” Okasa fought back her sadness. “But we have to hide before they arrive.”
“Hide in the cellar, I’ll deal with them.” Korioji gulped. His confidence was waning.
“Thank you Korioji!” Okasa gave him a quick hug then headed to the house with Dude in hand.
“Is Korioji going to be alright?” Dude asked while looking back at him.
“The future is always cloudy, son. It changes based on every decision we make.” Okasa ushered Dude inside and opened up the cellar in the floor. “For now we must hide.”
“Will father come to save us?” Dude asked as they walked down the stairs into the cellar.
Okasa looked at him, her heart sank. “I hope so.” She closed the cellar door and locked it from the inside. She could feel something bad had happened to Otto. Never before has someone close to her appeared in a vision. It scared her greatly.
“This is it. I won’t let you down brother.” Korioji said to himself. He stood tall and waited for the riders to arrive. His hair blew in the wind.
Twenty riders pulled up to where Korioji stood. Half of them were human and the other half pigmen. Dordus led the pack.
“OTTO!” Dordus hollered loudly. The yell was so powerful, even Dude and Okasa could hear it down in the cellar.
“He’s not here!” Korioji yelled back. “He already left for Hakaris this morning. He should have been there by now.”
“Then he has run off and abandoned you. He had plenty of time to get to Hakaris, especially if he took the hanuma, which I know he did.” Dordus said.
“Otto would never do such a thing! He is a man of his word and you know that!” Korioji snapped. “You must have missed him then, how do you know he hasn’t arrived already?”
“Once a coward, always a coward” Piega snorted. Korioji clenched his fists in anger.
“It doesn’t matter really. He is only a small piece of the puzzle.” Dordus said as several of the riders dismounted.
“What do you mean?” Korioji questioned.
“We are really here for the brat. Now hand him over!” Dordus demanded.
“Well you are too late, they all left. I am the only one here.” Korioji replied.
“What lies! If this were true why would you remain here?” Dordus looked around. “Fine then we will have to burn it all down!”
“Over my dead body!” Korioji yelled and took his fighting stance.
Dordus laughed. “Fine by me. Kill him boys!” He pointed at Korioji.
The dismounted soldiers drew their weapons and approached. Korioji stood his ground waiting patiently for the imminent attacks.
They circled Korioji for a few seconds until the bravest of them made the first attack. He lunged and slashed as Korioji stepped into him, grabbed his sword hand and twisted until the wrist bone snapped and he flipped to the ground. Korioji quickly spun and drove his foot into another who barreled backwards toppling to the ground.
Korioji didn’t believe in fighting with weapons. He believed weapons were a crutch. True power had to do with energy and technique, not some forged piece of metal. There was an obvious difference between fighting some thug with a weapon and a well-trained fighter who knew how to control his energy.
“Look’it dis guy! Kill’em you idiots!” Piega yelled at the pigmen. They snorted in anger and attacked.
Korioji’s hands began to glow a deep blue as he concentrated his energy. He punched one of the pigs sending it flying to the dirt. Another pig swung his weapon but Korioji quickly turned and punched the blade, shattering it into a hundred pieces. The pig stood dumb founded as he looked at the handle of his broken sword. One of the other pigs punched and struck Korioji causing him to stumble. The other riders dismounted and encircled him.
“Dat all y’got?” the cocky pig snorted.
Korioji moved his hands in the air while concentrating his energy. Rock and earth suddenly encased itself on the cocky pigman’s feet. He squealed and tugged at his legs but he was stuck.
More of the riders abandoned their weapons and joined the melee, fists a blazing. Korioji fought to the best of his abilities but was eventually overwhelmed. He had lost control of the fight and was getting pummeled. He got a few good hits in on some of the goons but he soon found himself on the ground.
“You’re just as pathetic as your brother!” Dordus laughed.
“Ha!” Korioji yelled. “I am nothing compared to my brother. You will see soon enough!”
“Don’t make me laugh.” Dordus said as he got off his steed and approached the beaten Korioji. “He will die just like you!”
Meanwhile down in the cellar Dude was getting restless.
“This isn’t right!” he said, breaking the silence.
“What do you mean?” asked Okasa.
“You said every decision we make changes the future, well sitting in here and hiding isn’t right. I must go help Korioji!” Dude began to unlock the cellar door.
“No you can’t! It isn’t safe!” she pleaded.
“I’m sorry mother, but I can’t just hide in here. I know what I must do. I have to help. That’s what father would do!” Dude opened the cellar and headed out.
“Dude… no…” Okasa whispered.
Piega waddled over to Korioji and booted him hard in the ribs. Korioji yelped and grabbed at his sides. The soldiers had done a number on him. He was pretty banged up.
“Last chance Korioji! Tell me where Otto’s son is or you die right here, right now!” Dordus threatened as he held the legendary halberd “Gorulas” and pointed the blade at Korioji.
“I’m right here!” yelled Dude. He stood in the doorway, excited but nervous. He had trained hard but had never been in a real fight before.
Dordus and all the riders turned their heads and began to laugh when they laid eyes on the small boy trying to act tough.
Korioji looked over at Dude. A feeling of hopelessness overwhelmed him.
“I’ll git dis one” Piega squealed with excitement.
Dude took his fighting stance, but fear began to grip him as the pig waddled closer. The pigman was huge compared to Dude and he was having second thoughts about this plan. Maybe he made the wrong choice and doomed everyone. He tried to shake his doubt and fear but they stuck with him.
“You’ll pay fer yur father’s mistakes!” Piega grinned.
The big pig swung his fist but Dude blocked it and side stepped delivering a punch to the pig’s belly. Piega laughed and back handed Dude sending him to the ground. Dude wiped the blood from his mouth and got back to his feet.
“A punk jus’ like ‘ur father!” Piega laughed.
“You shut up!” Dude yelled as his anger surged. A faint glow of blue appeared over his body as he jumped forward landing a solid strike on Piega. The pig stumbled back from the blow. His face contorted in anger and disbelief. The glow dissipated from Dude.
“Ya little ****!” Piega spat blood on the ground. “Your father got away wit’ dat, but you sure ain’t gonna!” the pig fumed.
He charged towards Dude and punched him as hard as he could. Dude flew backwards crashing into the side of his home then fell to the ground.
“Dude! Run!” Korioji cried out.
“Shut up!” Dordus stomped on Korioji who groaned in pain.
“Such a dramatic entrance n’ that’s all I get? What a waste a time!” Piega snorted.
Dude struggled back to his feet and took his fighting stance again. He was shaky and his body hurt, but he couldn’t give up now.
“Dat’s what I’m talkin’ bout boy! Give me what’cha got!” Piega stomped over and swung.
Dude tried to block but the punch struck him cleanly. He fell unconscious to the ground. Piega laughed loudly.
“What a joke.” He scoffed. He lifted his leg to stomp on Dude.
“Enough Piega!” Dordus roared. “Get the boy and let’s go!”
“You’re lucky brat!” Piega said as he turned and headed towards the horses while dragging Dude by his shirt.
“Leave him alone!” Okasa yelled as she ran from the house with a knife in her hand. She stabbed the blade into Piega’s back. He let out a shrill squeal as the blade dug deep into his flesh.
“Okasa! No!” Korioji yelled.
“Okasa?” Dordus mumbled. His demeanor softened.
“Stupid bitch!” Piega screeched as he tossed Dude and turned to his assailant. “You’re gonna regret that. I’m gonna enjoy making you squeal!” He licked his lips as he stomped towards her.
Piega reached out to grab her when he was abruptly pushed to the ground. He looked up to see Dordus standing above him. Korioji watched with intrigue. He had heard stories from Otto about Dordus, but had never met him before.
“Don’t you dare lay your filthy hands on her or I’ll slit your throat!” Dordus fiercely threatened. “Now come with me Okasa, we must go.” He tugged on her arm but she pulled away.
“No Dordus! Let go of me!” she demanded.
“Please, Okasa. You know I am only acting on Emperor’s orders, my hands are tied. Come with me and you will be safe. I can promise you that.” Dordus pleaded. “The only other option is that you are killed right here. So I suggest you listen and come with me.”
Okasa reached into Dordus’s mind and poked around his memories. She could see Emperor Kojima threatening Dordus’s life if he failed to bring back the boy. She surrendered. Now was not the time to fight. Dordus escorted Okasa over to the horses and she climbed atop Dordus’s steed.
Piega scrambled back to his feet and pulled the knife from his back. He growled intensely then threw the knife to the ground. He grabbed the unconscious Dude and threw him on the back of his horse.
“Soldiers!” Dordus yelled. The soldiers snapped to attention. “Kill Korioji and burn this place to the ground, then return to Hakaris.”
Korioji glanced over at Okasa. She looked defeated, her face saddened.
“Piega, what ‘bout me? Help you guys!” begged the pig whose legs were still encased in rock. He was stuck and couldn’t free himself.
“Heh!” Piega snorted, “Yur useless!” He drew his blade and stabbed the pig in the chest. The lifeless pigman leaned forward but wasn’t able to fall because of his anchored feet. The other soldiers watched in dismay then went back to their tasks with a newly found inspiration.
Piega climbed atop his horse that Dude was laid across. Dordus, Piega and five of the soldiers took off leaving the rest to clean up the mess.
Several of the soldiers began to remove torches from the packs on their horses. The others approached Korioji who had struggled to a knee.
“You guys don’t have to do this.” Korioji pleaded, but his plea was ignored.
One of the soldiers drew his sword and raised it high in the air. Korioji closed his eyes and cowered. The soldier swung his blade down but it connected with another blade. The sound of metal connecting clanged loudly and Korioji opened his eyes.
“I don’t think so friend.” Buredo grinned while his massive sword blocked the soldier’s blade. Buredo’s golden hair stood tall as a few strands poked out from below his head band. He was exceptionally strong, wielding a two-handed sword with only one hand.
“We’re under attack!” the soldier yelled. The other soldiers dropped their torches and drew their weapons. Arrows began to fly from the bushes scoring clean hits on the soldiers. One by one they began to fall. The few around Korioji were quickly dismembered by Buredo and a few swings of his massive sword.
“You alright Korioji?” Buredo asked as he held out his hand.
“Much better now, thanks!” Korioji said as he grabbed Buredo’s hand and got back to his feet.
“Hah, not a problem buddy!” Buredo laughed throwing his arm around Korioji and squeezing him. Korioji groaned in pain.
The last remaining soldier jumped on his horse and began to flee. The horse galloped down the road but out of the darkness Mishika appeared and slashed the rider. The rider fell to the dirt as the horse ran off into the night.
Mishika was both beautiful and deadly. She removed her mask to reveal her long black hair. Her face was innocent and soft but she was anything but. She was a cunning ninja and a master of stealth. She wore a purple ninja outfit with black highlights.
“You can come out now.” Mishika yelled. Six villagers came out of the bushes with bows in hand. While the Shizukesa clan lacked an army or official soldiers, all their villagers could wield a sword or bow with above average skill. Otto spent many years training everyone in the Shizukesa clan so they knew how to defend themselves against the Akuma or other hostile clans.
“Thank you everyone for your swift response. Because of your help we were able to save Korioji’s life and stop them from burning Otto’s house down.” Mishika told them.
The villagers cheered and congratulated each other. They weren’t soldiers so something like this was a very tense experience. So they relished their victory, no matter how small it really was. After some short lived celebration they made their way back home. Mishika, Buredo and Korioji remained outside Otto’s house.
“These guys are ruthless! They killed their comrade over nothing!” Buredo said as he examined the dead pig whose feet were still anchored in rock.
Korioji motioned his hands. The rock around the pig’s feet retracted causing the corpse to fall heavy to the dirt. He then explained to the others what had happened. He told them about the Hajima riders, Otto’s departure and the kidnapping of Dude and Okasa.
“Those Hajima bastards! Let’s go attack them!” Buredo roared. He had a short temper and hated the Hajima clan so this caused his blood to boil.
“Calm down Buredo!” Mishika ordered. “We need to be rational about this.”
“Well then what should we do?” he snorted.
“We need to find Otto.” Korioji spoke.
Mishika looked at Korioji. “I think we should visit master Horphrung. He should have some answers.”
Korioji and Buredo nodded in agreement. The three of them headed to see master Horphrung. His home was on the outskirts of the valley, no more than a thirty minute trek away. The moon rose high and cast a pale light across the land.
They approached the house of Horphrung. It was a large wooden home that was clearly made by master carpenters. The detail work in the wood was fantastic. The house seemed lifeless but the outside torches were lit. That is usually a good sign that someone is home. They stood outside the door and looked nervously at each other. Korioji stiffened then knocked on the door. The door slowly creaked open. It was dark inside, but a few scattered candles helped to shed some light.
“Ladies first.” Buredo offered to Mishika. She glared at him then entered. Buredo and Korioji followed closely behind.
They crept down the dimly lit hallway until they reached the living quarters where they found master Horphrung. He was old. His hair and beard were long, shaggy and grey. He had bushy eye brows and a face with deep wrinkles. He wore a white robe with a long blue rune enchanted scarf wrapped around his neck. The end of the scarf dangled down his front. He was sitting cross legged with his eyes closed. His body was surrounded by a thin blue energy as he hovered two feet above the ground. He was periodically chanting in a deep low voice. They looked at each other, not sure what to do. Korioji decided to speak.
“Hello master.” Korioji spoke softly.
Horphrung’s eyes snapped opened and he yelped. The energy around his body vanished and he fell to the floor with a thud. He looked up at them.
“Gadzooks! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Horphrung yelled. “Never sneak up on an old timer like that, especially when he is meditating!”
“We’re sorry master!” the three said simultaneously. They bowed with respect.
“And you just let yourself in, I see. Such manners.” Horphrung grumped.
“Master, we are in dire need of your help.” Korioji said.
“Well then, speak your mind and let us see how helpful I can be.” Horphrung reached over and grabbed his cane then struggled to his feet.
“Otto is missing and I was hoping you could track him down for us.” Korioji looked at Horphrung who was scratching his beard.
“Otto? Missing?” Horphrung juggled the words in his mind. “Alright, I will search for him. Please be patient and give me a few moments.”
“As you wish master.” Korioji and the others stepped back and watched.
Horphrung sat back down and laid his cane next to him. He crossed his legs, closed his eyes and began to concentrate. Any person or creature that possesses enough power gives off an energy signature. These energy signatures can be sensed from great distances using a special technique. It is a difficult technique to learn but is a very useful one.
Suddenly Horphrung began to struggle as a purple energy engulfed his body. The energy was dark and caused him pain. He groaned as he struggled against it. He tried to resist the dark energy but it was too much and he fell forward. He breathed heavily as smoke wafted off his body. The three fighters stood and watched bewildered.
“Are you alright Master?” Korioji yelled as he and Buredo rushed to his side.
Buredo and Korioji rolled him onto his back. Horphrung coughed and groaned.
“What happened?” Buredo questioned. He had never seen anything like that before.
“Well on the up side…” Horphrung chuckled weakly, “…Otto is still alive.”
“I knew it!” Korioji cheered.
“But there is a dark entity that is watching over him. It fought me back when I got too close.” Horphrung coughed again. His age had been getting the better of him for a while now.
Korioji’s thoughts wandered. He thought about his brother and his family.
“Korioji?” Horphrung looked at him intensely.
Korioji snapped back to reality. “Yes, master?”
“I need you to give Otto something for me. It is very important.”
“Of course master, anything.” Korioji bowed.
“Wait here please.” Horphrung said and then wandered into a back room. He supported his steps with his cane.
He came back out with a small box clutched in his hand. “Make sure you give this to him in person. It is very important that this never falls into evil hands.” Horphrung handed the box to Korioji.
“But how will I find Otto?” Korioji asked.
“You won’t. He will find you.” Horphrung answered.
Korioji was puzzled by what Master Horphrung said. “Then what should I do?”
Horphrung looked him in the eyes, “Whatever you feel is the right thing to do.” He smiled then coughed. “Now if you don’t mind, I would like to go sleep. This old body just isn’t what it used to be.”
The three fighters said farewell to Horphrung and headed outside.
“I’m not really sure that gave us the answers we were hoping for.” Buredo said.
“It is getting late. We should regroup tomorrow morning and then decide what to do.” Mishika suggested.
The three agreed and headed separate ways back to their respective homes.
“Where are you Otto? We need you.” Korioji thought to himself.

Welcome back RJA!
I sure miss those comics and the DB style.
I don't know why but with all this dialogue I kinda read it as a shakespeare play.
