Large numbers of characters

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so I hope I don't start off on the wrong foot. I searched, and read through the tutorials, but I don't seem to be able to find an answer to my question (I apologise in advance if this is very simplistic or explained elsewhere - as I said, I couldn't find it).
Basically, I want to make a large number of characters who can join your party (think Suikoden). I know you can only have 4 in your party at any one time, but I was wondering how I would go about having a certain person who my hero can go to and choose who to have in the party.
Using the Suikoden example, I'm asking how I would go about making a castle-type scene with a whole bunch of characters, and then be able to swap around who is in my group.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers.

Well, the easiest way to do this would be to talk to a person to remove all the heros in your party, then go up to a person and talk to them to join you.
Like, have it to where everytime you enter the castle, it automatically removes your party members. If you didn't change your party, then when you leave, have it put back the same members that you had before you entered.

Ahh, of course.
Simple, but very effective.
Any other suggestions are welcome, but I think I'll give this one a try.
Thanks!

Yeah, do what meiscool said.
I have a bit to add on to that. Basically, if you atumatically remove all the characters, it may get annoying. So, what I'd do is when you talk to a character, you have 3 options, add that character to party, remove that character from party, or remove all characters (except hero) from party.
If that character is already in the party and you ask them to join, they say something like "I'm already in the party", same idea for when you ask them to leave the party and they're not in the party.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

OK, cool.
Thanks for the added advice DragonBlaze!
(By the way, I just stumbled across another thread that asks this very same question, with a similar set of answers, so my apologies for asking a common question. Although now anyone who has a similar problem can hopefully look at the title of this thread and be directed here, rather than wading through 50 "PLZ HELP!" threads...)

i did this type of thing for 8 party members before i lost my project to map corruption but it gets a little messed up you have to... ok it goes like this:
1. i talk to the party member
2. he or she responds by asking you to remove one of the four from a menu with all the party memebers in the game.
3. select the party member that is in your party out of the seven (if they are found in the game yet) other than he or she that you want to switch.
4. the member is switched.
Heres the catch: you have to select the one you want to remove twice for it to work.
i don't know any other way to do this.
It works by those dumb*** switches. switches for this switches for that! Maybe thats why my maps got corrupted.

EMHero, that was a bit of a kick. Generally, if topics are more than two weeks old, it's not a good idea to post in them, but that goes for most topics over a week as well.
And besides, your system wouldn't be effective if he's doing a Suikoden-esque game with 100+ heroes.
