Alright. So last friday I install some open source applications on my computer. I notice my folders are disappearing, all of them. I reset my comp. the NTFS file is broken. I try re-installing Winblows. Errors copying files. NTLDR is missing. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to reset. So today I'm putting the covers off my computer. It's educational for me to know where the GFX card and stuff are positioned but it's not going to help me any further.
Now I have two options to think:
A)Windows XP likes blowing itself up.
B)My hard disk drive broke.
So whatever can I do to try fixing this up? I tried system recovery, FIXMBR, FIXBOOT, I tried Floppy disks, I tried formatting my hard disk, etc...

Formatting didn't work? I believe that's a HD problem right there.. I'll ask my brother when he gets off from work. He knows more about this stuff than I do.

IF it's still going to be working that is. Oh well. I managed to clean up a small load of dust in there.

Have you dry-cleaned it? Might help. I mean...your computer will be broken...so you won't need to reformat it!

It's scary when you take the cover off your computer and you find a load of 3 volt button batteries in there. 'Nuff said.
I'm assuming you have the XP Disk still, still you tried to reinstall Windows. So it has corrupt files. Meh.
When you pop the disk in, if it says something about "Press R to open the recovery console", or something to that effect, open the console and ask it for a list of possible commands (Can't remember the keyword, it might be HELP). There are a whole bunch of them for fixing all sorts of errors. First try FIXBOOT, just in case it's your boot sequence that has a problem (Happened to me when I turned to comp off without using Shut Down). Otherwise check out the list.
Try that. Good luck.
