Is there a way to change a .mp3 or .wav file to midi without losing any or too much sound? (A lot of the ones I found just make it so it sounds like 1 drum, banging, and bangin'.)

No not really. Midis are just commands to play synthetic sounds, and wav/mp3 are actuall live audio

Rumor has it there IS a program that can turn mp3s into quality midis, but I've never been able to find it. :-/

I don't even see how that rumor can be POSSIBLE. There is no way to analyze an MP3, split up each instrument, and then figure out the notes it's playing and what instrument it is to put into a MIDI.

You could always compress the file... once or twice wont hurt the sound too much...
