it took me a few tries to figure this out, but here's how to import charas ex sprites into rpgm2k3:
once you have your sprite, you'll want to "copy to charset".
click "background", then "autobackground" then click on a block under "custom colors" (i like upper left so it's easier to remember later), then click on "define custom colors", and you'll see (on the right) a color-bar starting at black (bottom), and rising to white (top).
nudge the arrow at the bottom (black) of the color-bar on the right side of the screen and move it up just a little. this is so black (a color you'll probably use in your sprite) is not transparent. (if you're using this shade of dark-grey you'll just want to pick a background color you aren't using).
now click "save picture" on the "charas.ex charset generator" window and be sure to save as a .png (portable networks graphic) to somewhere other then the rpgm2k3 folder.
finally, just start up rpgm2k3 and import the sprite(s) as a charset by clicking the "import and export resources" icon.
that should do it... it works for me
