Creating a gun sight in Photoshop.

1. Open a 400 x 400 transperant document
2. Put on some kickass music. Techno or Russian Hip Hop will work.
3. Select the fill tool and fill the image as white.
4. Now, select the ecliptical (the circle thingy) tool.
5. press "D" then "X", and make a circle. Don't be alarmed, the Circle is supposed to be white (hold shift when you make it, so it's a perfect cirlcle) (also, make sure it's a seperate layer from the background layer):
6. Now go to Edit>Stroke. Make the stroke colour black. Make the stroke size 7 px. Make sure  it's set to "outside".

It should look like this now.


7. Now, you'll select the line tool, set the weight to 2px, and make a vertical line, right in the middle, and move it around a little bit untill it looks perfect. (remem

ber to hold shift, so it goes perfectly straight - also remember to make it a seperate layer than the circle)



8. Now, make a horizontal line, also as a new layer.



There you have it. The classic "crosshair". BUT! No one likes classic stuff, or we would all be using photoshop 2.1, right? Of course I'm right.

Now for some fancy stuff-
Like lines. I'll be saying "dupe" a lot in this bit of the tut. that's just short for "Duplicate".

1. Zoom in to 300% and make a short horizontal line like so:



About now you might be wigging out about proper spacing and whatnot. No worries, Uncle Sleepykins is there for you.

2. Make a vertical line that's just as long as how far apart you want your horizontal lines to be.



3. I know that looks stupid now, but look. dupe the horizontal line layer and bring it to the bottom of the vertical line. Hold shift while you're dragging it down, so it goes straight down.



See where I'm going with this? Too bad, I'm explaining the rest anyway.

4. Now, drag the vertical line down to the bottom of the second horizontal line. Dupe the horizontal line layer and drag it to the bottom of the vertical line. Repete untill you have as many horizontal lines as you like.

5. Then delete the vertical line layer.

Your image should now look like this:



Now for that tricky curved line. This is much easier than you might think.


1. press "D" then "X".
2. now, make a circle as a new layer.
3. Go to edit>stoke, set it to "outside", set the color to black, and set the  width to 2px.

voila.


I know it looks odd now. So, follow the next step well. You're my bitch now!

4. Erase everything that's covering something else, exept for the line. (look at the next example)

And you're done. You can flatten the image , select the crosshair, layer via copy, and add some effect like this, if you want:
