Is there a way for the hero to not face up or down?

I made a fortune in toothpicks, but I lost it all in a fire.

Well, you could replace the sprites of facing up and down with either ducking or looking up poses.(Maybe even just right or left movement)
And then you could just palce events above and below the hero to prevent him from moving in those directions. Maybe even making an event so just 2 of them will move when the hero moves so you won't have to cover the entire map with events.
I hope it helps

I already know how to block him from moving, but I use move forward. Or is there another way to jump in a platformer?
BTW is it possible for me to give someone the game and they edit it in Rpg Maker 2k3?
