I suggest that you do not begin your rpgmaker career with a custom made battle system.
Things tend to become quite complicated after a while and I'm not even sure you understand the meaning of switches and variables yet.

Making a rather complicated game requires the experience to make it, the more you work with the rpgmaker, the better you will become. It takes soem time to make a game so don't try to rush it.
Begin by learning how the maker works and make a simple game so that you under stand the basics and everything that comes with it.

But I suppose that you could give the pokemon game a try. Although I'm afraid to say that the first game one make usually fails.
