Chapter 1: Caedes
Ever calm, ever quiet. The assassins of the Empire were generally unmatched, but there is one who dwarfs them all. His name was Kevin. Of Asian descent, he was a bit shorter than average, brown hair, brown eyes. His weight was average. Though not very active on land, in water, he is like an eagle. As an assassin, he is dangerously equipped. His main weapons were a pair of Cat Claws, which were attached to very long Elbow Blades. He had a very heavy laser rifle. Its laser atomizes anything it touches. He was also equipped with Fragmentation Grenades and a flame-thrower. He wore a metal mask and stainless steel armor. The armor was unable to rust, and so was the mask.
Kevin was just doing his job. He was assigned to kill a rich man who was secretly supplying the Rebel Alliance with wealth, supplies, and even weapons. The rich man was often in his Jacuzzi with prostitutes. He was a rich pervert. Kevin was in the sewers, swimming through the pipes. If his calculations were correct, he would find the man and he would be able to kill him.
Kevin was not only the top assassin of the Empire; he was also its greatest Admiral of the Space Navy. Without Kevin, the Empire could deteriorate. Fortunately for the Empire, Kevin was virtually invincible.
When doing his job, Kevin is like a light thunderstorm. A moment of terror, yet once it’s over, it’s like it never happened. Kevin was known for being silent as a bee, and every time he killed someone, it was unknown to anybody, except he and the Imperial Nobles. Kevin’s trademark was that even if he mercilessly slaughtered someone, there would be no trace.
It was basic operating procedure for all assassins to get their fingerprints burnt off. If they did not, they may leave sufficient evidence. The Empire liked things done quietly and cleanly. That way if they end up in legal trouble, there will not be enough evidence to convict the Empire of crime.
In the legal documents, it does state that anyone is susceptible to the penalties of the law except for the Emperor himself. This law was created to ensure trust in the common people.
Kevin was swimming through the pipes. He was like a bullet. There was nothing that could stop him from completing his task. Why? Two things motivated Kevin: Wealth and Reputation. Laws of the Empire State that the Emperor can mint any amount of currency he wishes and inflation cannot occur. Inflation cannot occur because of a law stating that all prices must remain on a low-high average meter based on difficulty to make and popularity.
Kevin was nearly ready for the strike. He slithered through the pumps ominously. Eventually, he found himself under the Jacuzzi of the wealthy Rebel.
With a loud yell, he leapt out of the ground, spinning in the air. A giant splash blinded everyone around them.
The steam and water cleared. There was nothing but dead corpses. No blood. There was a knife stuck in the wealthy man’s chest… with his own fingerprints. Framejob. Kevin made it look like the wealthy man killed everyone else and then committed suicide.
Kevin had already fled down into the spa’s drainage systems. Still completely armed except for one knife, he landed on dry land. He pulled a device from his pocket and hit a button on it. He then said, “It’s done.” He then heard, “Good. I can lead you back here. Rebel spies are searching the sewers for you. They don’t know that you did it, but they always suspect. Go forward until you see a large wheel.”
Kevin obeyed the man on the communicator. He ran forward down the sewers. Suddenly, he felt an unwelcoming feeling in his gut. He knew the Rebels were on his tail. He looked around, stopping. He then leapt into the water and swam forward.
The voice remarked, “Like an eagle, Nessy. Fly.”
Kevin swiftly swam up the drains.
The man instructed, “It will be easier this way. Still go up towards the wheel. To the right of the wheel there will be another accessible pipe. Swim down that.”
Kevin swam down until he saw the wheel. It did not take long. Without looking, he swiftly shifted himself so he would flow to his right. He then spun and swam down the pipe the man told him of via the communication device.
The man then said, “Okay, now. Go down this pipe until you find an intersection of pipes. From there, get onto dry land. There will be a platform between the two turns.”
Kevin swam down the pipe. It was a twisted, wavy tunnel filled with water, yet very small. Kevin, though, was a very precise swimmer. He nailed every turn perfectly. He then jumped out of the water at the sight of the turn in the pipes. He landed precisely on the platform.
The man simply said, “Up the ladder, Kev.”
Kevin climbed the ladder, but then heard the man yell, “Oh, ****! Kevin, Run!”
Kevin ran as fast as he could down the dry tunnel. He then saw a flashlight.
The voice from the flashlight laughed and said, “Kevin. We meet again. I haven’t seen you since before Tim’s Empire.” Kevin was confused. He didn’t seem to know this person. Kevin set his Cat Claw Elbow Blades in attack position. The man put the light to his face. Kevin flinched. “You…” he simply said. The man laughed. The man seemed slightly familiar to Kevin. “You want to know how I lost the weight? Magic. It is the only true source of happiness we have. No matter how much I exercised, I was still huge. With magic, weight loss is a simple task.” “But… how are you alive? I thought you…” “…Were dead? No, no, no, no. But you are.”
The man stepped back. Suddenly, six other men came out from adjacent tunnels.
The men were armed with swords. Swords were a far more common weapon in the Empire. It was believed that guns were a waste of good energy and that they should only be used in desperate situations. It was more likely to win with a blade.
The men jumped at Kevin. Kevin used one hand for blocking, and the other to attack. A man slashed at him. He parried the slash with his left Cat Claw, and used his right elbow-blade to kill 3 men in one slash. He backflipped back. He jumped at a man, and mauled his head. He turned around and parried a slash. He kicked the slasher, and sliced him right below the ribs. He then stabbed the last remaining man through the head with his Cat Claws.
Kevin was victorious but the man was gone. Kevin turned on his communicator and said, “Tim… I ran into Lambe. He found a way to trim himself to average weight… and he’s got thugs. He may be leading some gang or cult.” It was Tim who was guiding Kevin through the sewer. Emperor Tim, the cunning ruler of the world. Tim replied, “I know. We must find more of what he’s doing. Return to the castle. We’ll discuss this later.”
Kevin ran up to a manhole and came out of the sewer.
Chapter 2: Castellum
Standing upon the hill where the White House once lay was the golden city of Gadera, and the castle of the Emperor. The castle was so heavily guarded; you would have to be insane to even think of trying to storm it. A giant wall around the town with auto firing gun turrets lining the rim. Fifty Million Excubitor-class air battle robots.
The Excubitor-class was the most powerful robot of the Empire. Its 12-foot long core was the shape of a dragon’s head. It flew on repulsorlifts. It had a topside laser cannon two light laser cannons on the sides, and a smart missile launcher on the bottom, which could only carry 2 missiles at a time. It also had 8 robotic arms for grasping and sticking to walls. The arms could also be used to maim sentients. Other reasons for its robotic arms were that they were made of Titanium Alloy. They could touch radiation that could not be touched by human hands.
Also, about 50 squadrons of Pluvia-class starfighters, 50 squadrons of Nix-class starfighters, and the coup de grace, a Procella-class Stardestroyer. Also, the entire area was equipped with an energy shield. Nothing gets in or out without the proper security codes.
The Pluvia-class starfighter was the speed of the Imperial Navy. It was quick and agile, yet it speed is taken from its lack of deflector shield power. It has but 2 laser cannons on the side. It is shaped like somewhat of a spear.
The Nix-class starfighter is the power in the system. Unlike the Pluvia, this ship has two smart missile launchers. Also, it is equipped with 4 heavy laser cannons. It is similar in shape to the Pluvia, except that it has two large wings on each side. The wings were for more stable flight. Though, the Nix is much slower than the Pluvia.
The coup de grace, the Procella-class Stardestroyer. Stardestroyers are known to be the most dangerous types of ships in the solar system. The Procella-class is shaped like a Pteranodon. A large head for the command deck, and two huge wings that span out very far. On the aft end are the rocket boosters. There were five deflector shield generators on the back. 2 miles long, the sides of these ships are lined with auto-firing turbolaser cannons. Also, it is equipped with 10 Ultraviolet Guns. About twice the size, speed and quality of it’s predecessor, the Pterodactyl-class Stardestroyer.
Gadera, the largest city on Earth. Otherwise Gadera was simply called, “The Imperial City.” Many just said Gadera, its official name.
The Castle was also lined with Autofiring Turrets. It was an invincible citadel unable to be harmed in any way.
Kevin had just arrived at the city gates with his helmet removed.
The gates were large, and there was a small computer console on the wall. The computer said, “ENTER PASSWORD.” Each Imperial Official is given codes to the gates. Kevin knew this code. He typed, “485725508325590532544424.” The password to the gates. Then, the computer flashed, “TYPE YOUR NAME” and Kevin typed, “Kevin .” A camera came out at Kevin’s eye and photographed it. The eye was the only means to identify an Imperial Assassin. The eye appeared on the screen and said, “Match Found. Welcome, Kevin.” The gates then opened and Kevin ran inside.
Though all these precautions were taken, if a Rebel somehow did get in, the autofiring turrets would maim him instantly.
Kevin ran towards Gadera Castle. The Citadel was upon a large hill. Though, the castle halls were open to the public.
Kevin through forth the gates of the large fortress and walked casually in. He had his helmet in his arm. People recognized him. He walked down the main hall to the elevator. The elevator was for high-ranking personnel only.
The hall was a large party room with music, food, anything. Hundreds of people were in, and there was still plenty of room.
Kevin stopped in front of some one and said, “Conor! What the **** is going on down here?” and Conor stood up straight. Conor was very tall, black hair. He was also an assassin, though not a very good one. He slacked off all the time for his own reasons. He carried many forms of firearms, and was a very good shot. Just sometimes he wouldn’t do it.
Kevin started to walk around Conor. He eventually said, “Conor… why are you down here enjoying yourself when the Emperor gave you a direct order to stay hidden?” and Conor flinched. He took a deep breath and said, “Well, um… I, uh… thought I’d take the day off, sir.” “That’s what you say every time!” yelled Kevin. Kevin continued to intimidate Conor.
“Okay. Let’s go. You and me. Right here, right now.” Conor yelled in fear. Conor brandished a large Katana. Kevin laughed at the gesture. “Do you think you’re being courageous or smart? I call it suicide.” Kevin laughed. Then Kevin remembered, there was an arena with a repulsor field over it. In that arena, no one could ever die. Kevin made a gesture to Conor. Like a “come with me” gesture.
Kevin and Conor walked to the arena. Tons of people were following them. It was big event when two assassins fought eachother. This one was a clear-cut winner. Everyone knew that Kevin would win. Conor was intimidated by the chants of the surrounding people saying that it was obvious Kevin would be the victor, and that Conor stood no chance.
They’d reached the arena. It wasn’t too big, because in a fight, everyone has to be able to see the action. It was about as large as a wrestling ring.
Then the most amazing thing happened. Something that only really happens on these occasions. The Emperor himself walked out into the ring to referee.
He raised his arms and the battle began. Kevin put his helmet on and charged and Conor. He was so fast, Conor couldn’t even see him. Conor found himself slipping. Kevin was crawling on him. Kevin reached Conor’s head and tried to stab in, but Conor fell to the ground and squashed Kevin. Kevin then used his elbow blades to intimidate Conor. Conor used his Katana and slashed at Kevin. Kevin parried using his Cat Claws, and then flipped over. He then jumped about 4 meters into the air, and landed on Conor. At that point, he would’ve cut Conor’s throat, if not for the repulsor field.
Conor was still on the ground. If you’re hit, you still know it.
The Emperor, Tim, then walked up to the microphone. “Does anyone here wish to challenge me in a Death Match?”
The stadium grew quiet, until the Emperor showed them the winnings. It was not common knowledge that the Emperor was all-powerful. The greediest people ran up to him accepting his challenge.
“I choose to combat… all of you.” Tim said with a laugh. There were forty-three people who decided to challenge him.
The Emperor led the lot to the execution arena. An arena where anyone could die. Usually the Executioner would be the only one to use this arena, but not today. This arena was also used in Death Matches. It only took one trip down an elevator in the Battle Arena, and they were there.
Everyone was watching. They knew the Emperor was going to get maimed. One man against forty-three men. The forty-three greedy men were armed with firearms, katanas, and many other weapons. Tim was unarmed.
Kevin then yelled, “Let the Death Match begin!”
The men charged at Tim and stabbed him, shot him, and beat him… until they realized, he wasn’t there. They turned around and saw Tim flying behind them. Tim thrust his hands into the air and a black void seemed to open over him. The void seemed to open with a huge light. He then thrust his hands toward the men, and they were all obliterated.
This was a demonstration of the hell that the Emperor could unleash upon the Rebel Alliance. There was no chance. Now, Tim decided to have a counsel with his assassins, bounty hunters, and soldiers.
Tim walked upstairs. He could sense what Lambe was up to. Tim was not exactly all-powerful, yet the demons liked him. They provided him with enough power to rule the world effectively.
Tim’s brother Joe ran up behind him. “Tim, I heard you called for a counsel?” he said, panting. Tim sighed and said, “Don’t you have a psychiatrist appointment?” and Joe nearly slapped Tim until he remembered he couldn’t anymore. “It does exist, Tim. I’m going to find Angelic Magic.” Joe persisted. Tim moaned and yelled, “I don’t want to hear it! I say it doesn’t exist, Kevin says it doesn’t exist… even Nanie says it doesn’t exist!” and Joe stopped. Tim kept walking.
Joe sighed. He was the only man who believed that angels, rather than demons, could bestow power upon man. Not even the all-powerful Oracle, who Joe and Tim referred to as Nanie. Others just called her Franny or simply the Oracle.
Tim called for the counsel in five minutes. Tim was already seated in the private counseling room. Normally he would just go out on the balcony, yet this meeting was for military and high-ranking personnel only.
Tim sat on his throne. Waiting, and foreseeing.
Tim did not see anything in his vision. He just kept hearing the same word, in his own voice. He heard himself saying, “Again.”
He then heard in another voice, yet a voice he knew. It was the voice of Lucifer. He heard, “This word will bring power to the child. The one who hates.”
Tim clutched his hand and said, “I take no orders from stinking demons. You are beneath me. You are Lucifer, Prince of Darkness… and I am darkness. Now, tell me more. Of other people.”
Lucifer cackled. “Lambe cannot hold back your storm.” Tim vainly replied, “Yes. I knew that one. Who else?” and Lucifer laughed. “Okay. Okay… just give me a second to gaze into the infinite……………… ah, yes… that seems… right. We demons have been known to speak in riddles… if you are able to fight fire with fire… try fighting water with water.”
Lucifer cackled and disappeared from Tim’s mind. The room was now filling. Sometimes his power could anger him, as he couldn’t get out of his head… “Again.”
The room filled up. Everyone who was supposed to attend had attended.
“Thank you for coming, everyone. First of all, a lesson to the insolent.” Tim said, and then he thrust forth his hand and shot an energy blast at Conor. “Next time, do what I say!” yelled Tim. Conor stayed silent, for he knew he shouldn’t say anything. Tim then smiled enthusiastically. “When on a mission to assassinate a rebel supporter, Kevin came across an old enemy of ours. Many people know him as Lambe. Apparently he’s leading some cult or gang. I have meditated on it, but all my efforts have been in vain. We must all be ready for whatever lies ahead. Danny , Kevin and Dean . I want you three at the space station right now to keep an eye on this guy. Down here were gonna be doing some combat training.”
Tim’s head was filled with thoughts. How would the word “again” bring power to a child? Lucifer must have knew that Tim considered everyone his child, for only a demon such as him would create such an intricate riddle. Demons and Dark Gods were known for speaking in riddles. It was for the good of the one who must answer the riddle. Knowledge is power, and answering intricate riddles could raise the intelligence or even wisdom of any person.
The room began to empty. Tim watched as the people in the room spilled out. “You must teach them power, or you will not survive.” Lucifer said within Tim’s head.
Tim began to laugh. Even Lucifer could not comprehend the reason. Tim suddenly said, “You slime. You really believe that you can start thinking for me. I make my own decisions and I can see past my choices. I know what is going to happen. Lambe’s little cult won’t last very long. The Rebel Alliance will die. I will be victorious.” Lucifer laughed at Tim’s statements and said, “Look into the possible future…”
Lucifer granted Tim a glimpse of the future if Tim continued to think in this way. There was no sun... no life on Earth except the small band of Rebels. His castle was in ruin. There was nothing left. The world was over.
Tim finally woke up. “How? When? How can they oppose me effectively? No! This cannot be! This is a foul demon lie!” he complained. Lucifer laughed. Tim was wrong. If he did not acquire ultimate power, he would die. Lucifer began, “The Spear of Longitus… The Holy Grail… The Arc of the Covenant… what more power could be accessed?” and these words pierced Tim’s brain. He knew somehow what he must do, yet did not reveal it.
Tim turned around. “They must be trained,” he said, “for the sake of the empire.”
Tim turned back and headed out.
