ABS Game
«

October 23, 2005, 08:03:51 PM »
This is my first successful attempt at coding an ABS. It still has very little story (I started on it about a week ago) and I only have one characer coded and it doesn't have a name yet. Now to the story!
Section 1: The Story
In the history of the world, There had been 3 great calamities that threatened to cover the world in darkness. The first of which, was the demon Sak'Nael's exile from Hell (see section 3). The second, being the construction of the demon forge. The artifacts created there would cause normal humans to gain superhuman strength at the cost of their lives to where they would become zombie like. The third calamity, was the creation of the blade Omega Edge. This weapon's unholy strength was able to literally shred the world into pieces. Sak'Nael, whose goal was to tear the earth in half, recieved this weapon and was ready achieve his diabloical plan.
Section 2: The Legions
Learning of Sak'Nael's goal, The legions, one from each of the 7 continents, banded together to stop him. The Legions, each as strong as an entire legion of troops (hence the name), were aided by the Asure Knights. The Asure Knights were the angelic protectors of Heaven and also were the first teachers of the Paladins. But they couldn't directly help with the humans' struggle. In the end, Sak'Nael's body was defeated, but his spirit remained to corrupt another being and return. So, the legions used special pendants with gems carved from their native lands. These pendants had been enchanted by the Asure Knights (since the couldn't help directly) to capture a fragment of Sak'Nael's soul. Upon completing the task, The Legions returned to their homeland with the pendants so that no one person could obtain them all.
Section 3: Sak'Nael
Sak'Nael, pronounced Sock Nail, was once one of the strogest warrios in Hell, but Satan realised that he could be overthrown because Sak'Nael was too powerful. So, Sak'Nael was exiled.
Sak'Nael bitterly resented and loathed Satan for this and vowed to find some way back. Eventually he did find a way. If he tore the world in two, he would have direct access to Hell, Whereupon he would overthrow Satan and proceed to conquer the universe. Unfortunately, he would have to work fast. Even though his spirit was eternal, his body was now mortal. He also feared that his immortal spirit would degrade too.
And thus, we begin our story. 50 years after the first 7 legions defeated Sak'Nael....
Features
------------------------------------------
7 choosable characters with their own story
3 dungeons each + 1 final dungeon
Secret bosses
Equipment, level, and potion system.
70-80% custom

And other secreter secrets...Heh Heh Heh...
---------------------------------------------
Here is a screenshot of an area I made oddly from a glitch when taking a different screenshot.
Comments?
Ideas?
Constructive
Criticism?
And, can anyone tell me where I can show my demo?

Ummmm... I don't exactly get it. Sock Nail is evil right, but you make it look like he's the main character. And, you spelled Azure wrong, or did you? Is it Azure knights, or Asure, because Azure has been done to death.
Plus, 3 dung and 7 characters? That doesn't go good. I've got two characters in my game and already 8 dung, and I think that's to many (I mean, that's four dung per charatcer, and that's not enough. It should be like 10 or something). You should limit yourself to like 3 or something, especially if you're going to have an EXP system. And, aside from that, people will end up only using one of the 7 most of the time, with another character being used every so often just to change pace. Unless you put in areas where you are forced to use each character, I doubt if many of them will be used.
You prologe sounds good. A little cliche with the sword Omega Edge being able to destory everything, but other then that good.

One from each continent? Who the hell lives in Antartica? And why would anyone want to go back to Hell after being exiled from it? I mean, you have a chance to conquer a plane no one knows about, but then get the opportunity to conquer a plane that everyone lives in and knows about regaurdless of their beliefs that is much weaker obviously, without the help of Satan, but want to go back to the place that most people doubt exist and many will never see and conquer it? I apologize for that massive run-on sentance, but seriously, WTF.

1:He wants revenge on satan for his exile and why not take control of this world in the meantime?
2:They are going to be very long dungeons, not to mention that 7 * 3 = 21 dungeons
Plus
a final dungeon whitch makes it all in all 22 dungeons. I made it so you choose a character, play that story, choose the next one.. and so on.. each story is linked together in some way.
3:This is not Earth, who says that a ficticious world can't have more than 7 continents?
4:Azure is spelt wrong... Sorry about that.
5:Everything has been used once, stop being a jerk about it.
6:Don't forget that I'm also having a lot of secrets and such. At least one secret dungeon per character..
That makes it a total of.. at least 29 dungeons in this game. I would have put in an 8th character but I'm using him for my next game (which will be done with RMXP)
I want to conserve filespace and still make it very hard. And when I say constructive critisism, I mean that you should say what you think won't work and tell me what I should do about it.
Oh, and 9: His name is spelt Sak'Nail and he is the main
antagonist
of the story. The character you choose is taken as the main
protagonist
of the story.

You other guys can complain about the "redundance", but every idea ever invented has already been used in some game. And personally, I don't care much, as long as it's good.
Anyway, I really like the story! Takes an unexpected turn around the part where the bad guy wants to take over hell (and control all Satan's minions). Keep it up! Can't wait to hear more!

**Update**
Began work on the first secret dungeon.
Completed "Corpse looting" system.
**Update done**
I guess I should tell you now what the 7 classes are...
NOTE: This was originally going to be a Diablo fangame, but I decided against it and made it original. However, I refuse to change the classes because it would take too much time and I don't have much time these days.
Character 1-- Class: Barbarian
Pros- Highest Hp,Highest strength
Cons- No skills or mana
Character 2-- Class: Necromancer
Pros- Defensive and status spells
Cons- Low attack power and average Hp
Character 3-- Class: Paladin
Pros- Healing and Holy spells
Cons- Low mana
Character 4-- Class: Druid
No pros or cons.. The druid is averagein all stats
Character 5-- Class: Amazon
Pros- 2nd Highest Hp and damage, spells are relatively cheap
Cons- The difficulty for her story is considerably more difficult
Character 6-- Clas: Assassin
Pros- Fast attack and area-of-effect spells
Cons- relatively low hp, low mana
Character 7-- Class: Sorceress
Pros- Powerful spells and fast mana recharge
Cons- lowest hp and lowest damage in the game
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes on difficulty:
Money will be amazingly hard to get as all monsters drop money and can also be looted for sellables.
Highest level is 10, levels will be hard to achieve since the first is at 2000 and the weakest monster gives 15 exp to show that my game will be long.
My game will be long.
Max spells = 3. no more, no less.
spells are gained by levelups.
Weapons are very expensive but are very helpful.
dungeons will be at least 20 maps with 1 save point, to 60 maps with 3 save points and a mid-dungeon merchant.
Yes, that's right.. I
DID
say 60 maps (don't worry, they won't be that large, just to help alleviate slowdown.)
and finally...
At maximum, there will be 20 monsters on one map.
In my next post (or when charas allows the posting of screenies) I will show what monsters I have created so far.

20 monsters on one small map is to much. Unless you're going to put no good AI into each monster that is, which will make the game no fun at all. Second, the amazon had crappy HP, but attacked at a distance to make up for it. And lastly, you need more then 3 spells for an all-magic character like the sorceress. I am curious to see how your corpse looting system works out though.
And, charas won't be allowing post attactments for awhile. Just get a photobucket account.

Clarification

-The maps with more than 5 monsters will be larger than normal maps.
-I have already used all of my keys to do stuff, heres how it goes.
numbers 0 - 9 = exact character stats (health, base damage, mana, and gold)
cancel key = opens show choices window to choose potions.
+ key = opens show choices window for spells.
-These are my stats that I made.
- My corpse looting system and how it works.
When you walk over an enemie's corpse, pressin the action key will open a message box that says "Loot this corpse?"
and the corresponding yes and no.
If you choose yes, it will call a random number that, when above a certain number, will produce an item; otherwise, it will say "Found nothing."
either way, the corpse disappears when you choose yes.
Another thing to do with corpses, Corpse Kicking!!
This arose from a glitch, but when you use melee on a monster, you can "Kick" it over a square. This will be used for setting switches, and when you have lots of rage.
when the corpse gets stuck on a wall, you can step on top of it, attack, then walk one square away and attack and you can "Kick" it away from the wall, leting you have more corpse kicking fun!!
