Life of a dragon

Life of a dragon is just that, a life of a dragon. You'll be able to make all the decisions and shape your future. This game is unique in that you will play as dragons fighting against humans instead of the other way around. though after a while I don't like the plot twists, so it'll change and veer off from that storyline.

And this game will NOT be made with an rpg maker. My main reason for making this game is to practice my computer programming skills. I'm taking computer programming at school, since all our programming courses deal with operations and not graphics or game making, I'll be learning on my own about that stuff. And this game will be the game I practice on. I'll be using 3D graphics made by me. Right now my models aren't too great, but I'm practicing every day, and in a few months when I start on this game, I hope to have enough characters and landscapes to start the game. Though since this game is mearly a test game, there is a good chance I will not finish it. And even though I'll be working on this game, I'll still work primarily on my rm2k3 game

Anyway, the game will allow you to make many decisions on your own. Unlike games like Fable and Morrowind where you can do what you want when you want, this one will have a structure, you'll be faced with many forks along the way, and its up to you which fork you wish to take. Some forks make no differance on which you take, they'll just be two ways to come to the same outcome. Some forks will effect the game, but you'll get back on track with some changes to characters an such. Finally some forks will completely change the dirrection of the story.

Background Info: You are a hatching in a clan of wild fire dragons. The clan is seperated into two sections, the males and the females, the sections aren't supposed to socialize or be near each other. Hatchings are raised by their mothers, and are able to leave their mother's protection whenever they choose.

The problem at the start of the game is the dragoons who are enslaving dragons by tatooing them with a special ink that makes the dragons loyal to the humans. The dragoons have superiour crafting abilities, thus their armour and weapons are greater then the wild dragons.

Characters: (you'll have a choice to have scorch or Jarr as your main character)

Scorch: Scorth was always the runt of the clan, he was often picked on and teased by the bigger dragons. But he has a determained spirit and his witts and speed make up for his lack of size. His mother was taken away and enlsaved by the dragoons when he was only a hatching, since he has dreamed of fighting for the freedom of dragonkin and to rescue his mother.

Jarr: Jarr is your average female dragon. She is playfull and dosen't like to grow up. Her best friend was a hatching the same age as her named Flame. Flame and her always used to play together, but that all changed when they began to grow up. Jarr had met Scorch a few times as a hatchling, but every time they met her mother always chased him away telling her never to trust males.

Flame: Flame was Jarr's childhood friend. She had been more mature than Jarr from the start. When Jarr proclaimed that they would be the best hunters in the clan, Flame got angry saying there could only be one best hunter, and that she would have to face reality.

Heathe: Heathe was the envy of every hatchling in the clan. He was soon double the size of the others his age, and with size came power. Heathe's personallity is mysterious, or rather, his motives are.

Story: (since a lot of the story is the same as the interactive story I posted earlier, I'm going to go pretty far into this instead of just a teaser. Since there are a lot of forks in the story, I'm just gonna post the defult one, it might be differant then the story you get though when you play the game).

The story starts as Jarr hatches from her egg and sees the new world around her. For a few weeks Jarr learns the basics of life as do all hatchlings. But then she became lonely, she wanted a freind, so one day she gained the courage to talk to some of the other hatchlins. There she met up with Flame, and the two got along very well untill one day..

Jarr's mother was teaching her how to hunt. She quickly got the hang of it and cought a rabit, showing off her kill to the clan, she was quickly confronted by Flame, who was carrying a deer in her maw. Impressed, Jarr made the statement "We'll be the best hunters in the clan", but Flame wouldn't have it and said "there can only be one best hunter". After argueing a bit, Flame tells Jarr that she needs to grow up and then storms off.

Jarr was depressed and went off to sulk for a while. Thats when she met Scorch. Scorch was an energetic one, and though he was small compared to everyone else, that didn't stop him from anything. Scorch proclaims his intentions of starting a clan of his own, a clan of battle dragons. Jarr was intrigued, and realizing she needed to grow up, she decided to go along. Now all they had to do was find more members.

Jarr and Scorch got along very well. They came across Heathe, the envy of all the hatchlings. Though almost double his size, Scorch decides to ask him to join their clan. At first Heathe laughs and declines, but then after carfull consideration (and a look at Jarr) decides to tag along. The three of them had to travel to the volcano, the training grounds of the battle dragons. Every year, 30 clans where expelled from the training course or otherwise died in the process, it would be a rigarous time, but Scorch would not let that stop him.

Before leaving for the volcano, Jarr and the others go back to the nesting grounds where she met her mother to bid her fairwell. Her mother had never much liked that battle dragons, but it was Jarr's decision to make, not hers. She was however quit angry at the site of the two male dragons, her advice hadn't sunk into Jarr's head. The trio left and came across a familuar face, it was Flame! Flame had a crush on Heathe, so she begged to join their clan, Jarr forgives her and then there were four.

They fly over to the volcano to begin there training as battle dragons. They had to do countless runs across the lava, dodging stones as they fell to the ground. The exorsizes led them all to be exuasted. The squad leader Burnface as he was called, showed no emotion as he almost worked them to death. After over a year of training, they were ready to graduate. Even Jarr's mother who had hated the battle dragons attended, though now that her daughter was a battle dragon, she changed her views on that subject.

Their missions as battle dragons were boring, the new members never got any exciting jobs. However, on a patrol mission by the nesting grounds, that would soon change. The dragoons had come to get more dragons for their ranks. The dragoons were humans on dragons with the special tatoo that allowed them to be enlsaved. The dragoon's dragons had diamond armour and sharpened claws. Scorch, Jarr, Heathe, and Flame engaged the dragoons in a battle, they bearly managed to defeat the enemies, but in the process, another squad of dragoons had put Jarr's mother in a cage and was already in the process of bringing her back to their capitol. Jarr and Scorch fought vigoriously against Diamon, the enemy dragon, but lost. In the process, Diamon talks about how the dragoons are trying to help the dragons. He claimed that the wild dragons were barbaric, and the humans could help them like he helped him.

Weeks later when Jarr and Scorch are recovered, they have lost hope. Jarr was begining to doubt becoming a battle dragon, it was all pointless. Scorch however being enthusiastic decided to attempt a rescue mission. And so the battle for the freedom of the dragonkin begin. But are the humans really trying to help the dragons?

Didn't read it all, as that's a lot to read, but it sounds original enough. I like how you're sticking with the dragon ideas, and am hoping that this becomes yet another original creation from you.

Thanks I started making games because of dragons, or rather because there are hardly any games where you get to play as a dragon. And if anyone knows me, they know I'm obsessed with dragons. So yeah, I doubt I'll ever make a game that doesn't have dragons in it. Well there was that one space invadors type game I made in QBasic, but that doesn't count.

The thing I'm curious about is if people will like a game about dragons instead of humans. I've been toying with the idea for some time now, and I just want to see what happens.

I'll probably make a few wyvern characters, but I don't think Jarr or Scorch will be wyverns. It's a lot harder to make a game where the main character doesn't have any hands :p

Lol yeah, only the wild dragons from that clan will have names like that. The dragoon's dragons and dragons from other clans will have differant types of names. Example dragons from the water clan will have water based names, but I think the dragoon dragons won't have any theme to them. The dragoons are supposed to be more "civilized". so their dragons won't have such basic names relating to elements or whatever. But I have plenty of fire based names for characters still. Firaga is the name of Jarr's mother, then I can use Ember, Flare, Tourch, Firewing, Blaze, Nova, Starfire, and I'm sure I can come up with many more names if I use a thesorus.

For some people. using African names can sound kind of... hos is it called? Racist? Yet it can be a good idea, as long as people is tolerant about that. Well, the idea of using dragons is original. In most games, you can only use humans and humans look alike(elves and dwarves).

I use c4d but not for character/animations, just for abstract artwork.

Hmm, well it wouldn't be my intention to sound like that, and if some people will precieve it that way, then I won't be using them. In the game you'll be fighting for freedom and the right to live freely. I'll put some more thought into it.

 

What program do you use to make your 3d renders?

Well so far I've basically been practicing in anim8or. I can make some pretty cool models, but I can't make that good of animations because anim8or doesn't have a feature that allows you to add flexable skin.

I have Lightwave and 3d Studio Max, I'm looking into both and I'll decide which one I like better then go with that one. I'm guessing I'll use Lightwave though because I just like the layout a bit better. I have a lot of tutorials for the programs, and it shouldn't take long before I get the hang of them.

 

And what programing language are you working on?

I'll be using C++. Right now I know very little C++ since my computer programing classes are currently going over QBasic right now, so right now I'm spending my time working on the story and practicing with 3d modeling (plus I still have my rm2k3 game that I'm working on). After I get a feel for the syntax and such, I'll look into tutorials on the internet to learn more about the stuff I need to make games. After I learned about manipulating variables, inputs, and printing in QBasic, I was able to look up tutorials and make a few cool games with that, so I believe I'll be able to do the same with C++.

I know other programming languages are better for making games because C++ is supposed to be much longer then using Visual Basic or whatever, but I want to learn C++ really well before getting into that other stuff.

No its not racists or anything. The problem is that some people may see it that way, even though thats not the intent. Though I think it would be symbolic since you're fighting to abolish slavory, if even one person thinks its a bit racist, it'd be best to use other names.

no, actually it wouldn't. So what if one person sees it racist. You shouldn't change it to something you wouldn't prefer because one person doesn't like it. You know it's not meant to be racist, we know it's not meant to be racist. I say go for it, even if ppl don't like it. Not everyone will like your game anyways, better be sure you're satisfied with it before you ask other people's opinion on it.

Exactly. People like that are often racist themselves. For example, if there's a stand up comic that's mentally challenged, and people laugh at him because he's funny or the fact that he's trying is funny etc etc, some people will often bitch about him being laughed at because he's handicapped, not because he's in fact, funny. So, they themselves are the ones that believe retards should be kept in the dark and consealed from the public interest, not let out to be like normal people.
