OIL PCs

[Omega Weapon]

Has anyone ever created one? Omega Weapon is looking to convert this PC into an Oil PC.

By submerging all components except the harddrive and power supply in a leak-proof container with insulative cooking oil one can achieve excellent temperatures without the noisy fans.

Perhaps one good sir here has created such a computer?

0.o, I never heard of that. I suggest just buying quite fans and a silent Hard Drive.

Ah that is an excellent suggestion, but with an oil PC one does not have to dust the innards of the casings. Your personal Computer remains in a static state of cleanliness with only the occasional replacing of the cooling fluid. It is an excellent alternative to a possibly dangerous water-based cooling system as well as inexpensive.

Have you ever watched 'The Abyss' ? It is similar to the oxygen-rich fluid they had submerged the mouse in. This reminds me of that.

I'm a bit cautious about that idea... I'm almost positive that oil on most any form is flammable, and heat generally mixes with flammables in a most volatile way... How 'bout you test it out, visit a hospital for abominable grease fire related injuries, and report back to me when it sounds any safer.

I've done the OIL PC thing, and I must agree with Omega Weapon, it's the only way to go.

Omega Weapon was quite clear on the oil being insulative cooking oil.

Hey, I'm sure it's 80-95% safe, but I guess I just wanted to say something, but nothing important came to mind. No, it sounds like a good idea, I just wouldn't want to put the responsibility of not screwing something up in my hands. I'd make it catch fire. On purpose. Even if it's by accident. Yeah, I'm the anti-child/adult-proof.

No, it is actually household cooking oil.

I can't imagine how submerging cuircut boards and parts in any type of liqued would be good for the computer.

I still stick with my previous suggestion with just sticking with the quite fans. Its safer, you don't have to worry about installing it wrong or having it leak, and you don't have to clean the dust out more than you would have to replace the oil.

Besides, most power supplies need a fan, and if you don't submerge the power supply in the oil, you'll probably need that fan anyway.

Everything is addressed in this part of the first post. Some suggestions we have discovered on Google is to use a fish tank to prevent leakage. Oil is chosen only because it is an insulator.

While Omega Weapon is not proficient in chemistry, it would be wise to check if it is an electric conductor. If so then you can proceed.
