Fun Fact: Aerocross uses the same sprites as tornado, it just uses an HDMA layer (Wavy/ripple effects)

It is not fiery, if you look closely at the color, it is brown which means it is dirt being kicked up.

Ah I see! Also, that is one trippy background. Corridor 7 does something like that to animates some textures, not sure how to do it though without editing frame-by-frame.
