Simple yet vexing

This one is probablly too simple to mention, but i'm honestly at a loss.
My friend is really good at tampering any RMXP file I send him, and generally, he can produce success with no questions asked.
So not long ago, I sent him a title page I found on this site;
This title page depicts two Dragon's standing on their hind legs, holding a large blank banner, one on each end.
So I sent this to my friend and told him, 'Can you add the words- 'Lucid Prophecy' on that blank banner?', naturally he accepted, as this is a very easy task, but when he re-sent it, it suddenly would not import, at first, I figured it was just the file type, the post informed me of 'Invalid Color Depth', which is preposterous because nothing but Normal black font was added in, so I resaved the file as BITMAP, no good, then PNG, nada.
So i'm confused here, anyone got a solution for me?

The colour depth is changed after how the saved it. Not how many colours are present.
Get irfanview or something. Open the picture. Decrease the colour depth to 256c.
He saved it with no restriction which means that the amount of colours usable are too many for the maker. So it's not about the amount of colours in the picture: It's about the number allowed.
