RM2k3 Ingame and Test (Extreme Problem) PLEASE HELP

Whenever I go to test my project, whether through Rm2k3 or just clicking the game file itself, the main menu is unresponsive. nothing works except alt-f4 (which closes it). Somehow, while alt-tabbing between game and other programs, it allowed me to start a new game. when i went to play, the up and left arrows didn't work. pressing right made me move down, and down made me move left. X (for menu) still worked. I'd like this to get resolved before I quit rm2k3 and go find something else. I'm not terribly pissed but I'm trying to work on Carrion Wasteland and get more of it finished.

Edit: Carrion Wasteland is on hold until this problem is remedied.

RESOLVED. Here's a tutorial:

If the main menu or game is unresponsive, restart your computer. Hopefully that resolves the issue. I had to do a bit more because my computer wants to be complex, but now it's resolved.
