I want to know to display town names when I'm either near a town or just entering one.

One word : Pictures.
Create a picture in paint or something displaying the name, save and import it.
When walking atop of the desired tiles : Show picture at the desired part of your screen, remove it afterwards when it is no longer needed.

Can you paste the text behind a certain background such as the pink one and make that invisible like with the upper layer stuff in chipsets?

When making the pic, u paste the text on a solid bg. so when u import it, can u click on the solid bg so it doesnt overlap and the text of the pic only displays during gameplay.

Yes, you can do that. That would have the result of walking into the town and the image showing "TOWN NAME" and that's all, nothing else.

Oh sorry, didn't write back.
Yes, pictures like any other resource have the ability to have a transparent background (thank god), stuff like Meis' game wouldn't look as fancy otherwise.
So just create a picture of the text, no need to make it as large as the entire screen. just try to give the same dimension for all the "town name" pictures to make the copy/pasting of code easier.

I'll add those events eventually. Right now I'm fixing up the beginning again... lol this is like the 3rd or 4th time I've changed things. But the areas look A LOT better and prettier.
