Okay, My game is called Xenowars Ep:1 and the some german name which I haven't decided on yet (if you haven't guessed, the game will be set in the Xenosaga universe). I will release it in either of two different ways.
Option 1: I could release it traditionally by throwing in demos every 2 months and release once finished and bugs are kinked out
or
Option 2: this is a simple idea that I am surprised no one has come up with, what if instead of releasing it all at once, I could instead release a portion of it every now and then. Also if I for some reason (and this is doubtful) change something in the previous segments of the game, or I change the story, I will notify you of the change (whether significant or not) and you want or need to take your save file backwards, e-mail it to me and I will change the location, and keep everything with the same stats except for maybe switches, variables, and characters. (eg. You press the buttons to open the super secret hideout in chapter 1, but I later decide that the game segment shouldn't happen until chapter 3, so I turn the switch off. Or I totally change the storytake you back to opening your mailbox, and instead of a dragon taking your winning lottery ticket
[LOL], you get sucked up by a spinning vortex of doom thingy, so I take your save file back to the mailbox with the new scripting, lucky for you I keep all your Items, money, levels, and skills you earned killing baby dragons for hours)
none of the above will ever be apart of my story line, though I do like the whole dragpn stealing your winning lotto ticket Idea.
I like option 2 personally, but if you all prefer option 1, that's what I'll do. Also I'm open to any suggestions on option 2.
Option 2 wins though once I complete the game you can download the game OPtion 1 style.

I dont like it. If the game you were making has the add-on "Episode 1" then why segment it even further? It would be like, Xenowars Ep. 1 Section 2 or something.. Unless i'm not seeing the whole thing, in which case, kindly explain it to me.

for anyone who doesn't get option 2, it's like a weekly update, so after you finish the original release that has, maybe 15 playable maps, I'll hit you with 15 more. Mwahaha. It's like a MMORPG, except... not. (and I'm not saying it's like dot hack)
Since people on this board seem to be on a lot, I'll close the poll and put majority ruling into affect at noon tommorrow.
More info on my game:
*set in Xenosaga universe
*uses custom battle system similar to Xenosaga's (turn based, includes boost, + critical, AP, A.G.W.S. and more)
*only a few Xenosaga characters are playable, other charachters are available, but weren't playable in Xenosaga, this is so the game has it's own story.
*features four mini-games...maybe. Confirmed are Casino (which includes poker, and slots) and Xenocards.(a TCG) For those of you familiar with Xenosaga, A.G.W.S. battle game is a probably not, and the drill game is a maybe. I will try to come up with other mini-games for your pleasure as well.
*all Xenosaga main characters will make Cameo appearances this includes all playable characters, plus Nephilim, Jin Uzuki, Nigredo A.K.A. Gaignun Kukai (Playable), Albedo (playable), Febronia, Shelley, Mary, and many more.
*wonderful special effects that will give you Xenosaga De ja vu. (Eg. Nephilim color inversing)
*songs from well everywhere, including some Xenosaga songs, and maybe Xenogears songs.
*cinematic feel, even with 2-d graphics. If you enjoyed the game sometimes called 'the videogame/anime mini-series' you should enjoy this equally as much, though I doubt any cut-scenes will be nearly as long as Xenosaga's.
*custom menu, based on Xenosaga's but simplified so that the average bear can upgrade their characters.
*and much much more...
well, that's all I can think of for now. Phew better get to work.

Okay, I don't intend to release a whole new game every other day. The title for the whole thing is Xenowars Ep.1 : German name. I have finished the game Xenosaga, and decided to set the time-period from a playable prelude set 10 years before the start of Xenosaga, then after the prelude the game is set from the beggining of Xenosaga Episode 1 to the end of Xenosaga episode 1. I do not intend to alter the Xenosaga world, instead I intend to add on to it. Thus I will not start Xenowars Ep. 2 until I complete the game Xenosaga Episode 2.
I understand where you're coming from, i think. You seem to think that I'll release each new segment of the game as a completely seperate game. This
WOULD
be annoying, as you would have to constantly transfer save data from one folder to the next. This also would take up extra space on your computer if you had to re-download the recorces used in the game every so often.
However, this is not what I am doing. You may need an example to follow this:
____________________________________________________
June 17th 2004
First release is today
download file: Firstday.zip
to conserve space on your hard drive, it is recommended to delete the Zip files after you are finished extracting the contents
file contents:Maps 1-15, all recourses used in maps 1-15, all files neccesary to run the game.
Unzip files to wherever, default being C:\unzipped\Xenowars
(on future downloads I will refer to this folder as C:\unzipped\Xenowars)
after beating maps 1-15 the game will ask you to save. Save and exit. After new maps are added, run game, select load game from menu, and select your save file, will continue game on next map.
____________________________________________________
June 18th 2004
second release today
download file: Secondrelease.zip
File contents: maps 16-30cut and paste to directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars), new char set to support new character (cut and paste to directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars\charset), new music for maps 16-20 (cut and paste to directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars\music)
____________________________________________________
Jun 20th 2004
First Edit
Added on to menu
Downoad file: Menuchange.zip
File contents: map0001.lmu (replace the file with the same name in directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars), pictures req for new menu design (cut and paste to C:\unzipped\Xenowars\picture)
____________________________________________________
June 21st 2004
Game bug fix
Fixed bug in which game freezes when you talk to hooded man
Download file: Map0025.zip
File contents: Map0025.lmu (replace file with same name in directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars)
____________________________________________________
June 22nd
third release
Download file: thirdrelease.zip
File contents: Maps 26-50 (Extract to C:\unzipped\Xenowars)
____________________________________________________
June 23rd
Second edit
threw in a very handy treasure box before 1st bossfight.
Download file: secondedit.zip
File Contents: Map0035.imu (replace File with the same name in directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars)
If you are past this point in the game and you wish to go back to this point, e-mail me with your save file attached at
Nicks1225@aol.com
and I will take your save file to this location. You will keep all items and stats, however I may need to change some switches. E-mails containing save files before or at map 35
will be deleted
____________________________________________________
June 24th
Important
third edit
story change
Download File: maps 45-50 (replace all files with the same name in directory C:\unzipped\Xenowars)
If you are past map 45, in order to continue playing, send an e-mail to
Nicks1225@aol.com
with your save file attached, if you do not do this your save will not function properly, and you will not be able to use it. Upon sending your file to me, I will revert your location back to map 45. You will retain all items stats and switches.

I see what you're saying. I think. Well, you bring up a valid point, so do whatever you feel like doing. I just posted my opinion for you.
Edit:
Hey, for the german subtitle, you could make it something like
"Regen des Armageddonfeuers" Translated literally meaning "Rain of Armageddon fire." Or something like, (if its a game where people get massacred alot) "Blut von tausend Unschuldigen" Blood of a thousand innocents. o_O Heehee!

Gotta love German, It makes the titles sound all... um... Arnold Shcwarchenneger like...or...not. Anyway I think I'll go through with my plan but once I finish, I'll also tack on an entire game download. I created option 2 to lower download time drastically, and so people can play the game even if it's in development.
footnotes for the game:
*thus far I have only made a few sprites for this game... I am definitely not a graphic artist, and almost anything in this game is from somewhere else or an edit done by me. At the end of the game I'll try to give credit to those whose work appeared in my game.
*like Xenosaga, this game is not a typical RPG theme wise. Whereas most RPGs are set in a medieval/rennasaince time-period, Xenowars takes place 4000 years in the future, so sci-fi lovers look here, originality lovers, look here. I hope the Sci-fi feel is a fresh breath of air for the RM2k(3) community.

Finally have a full name for the game.
Xenowars Episode 1:
Da Suche fÜr Vesunke Jerusalem
I won't tell you the direct translation, because the name can give away a lot of the story for Xenosaga fans. But they probably have a good idea of what it says. Yes, that last word is Jerusalem, and like Xenosaga, the game will have religious references. The game database will tell you where each reference is from.
If you are a strong religious person, you might not want to play this game, however I feel, a person cannot be sent to Hell or the underworld or whatnot, by playing a game. In fact most people, Christians included, break one of the ten commandments every day, especially 'thou shall not curse' and if we do get sent to Hell etc. for that, then that's quite a crowded place down there. however what you believe is entirely up to you, nd I shall respect your opinion.
Edit:
I know...my German names aren''t nearly as cool as the suggestions in the post 2 columns up, but this one made the most sense in my game.

Well, unfortunately for you, MOMO pretty much has to be in the game as she is a key component in the Xenosaga story line
(you'll see when you finish the game, besides, she throws in a small love story, a ten year old and a 29 year old, awwww...), however, because the story doesn't depend entirely on the already existing characters MOMO will not be playable and only is a supporting role, however, two of her much more serious, much less cutesy sisters will play a big role and introduce Shion's brother's friends (who just happened to be named after two of the game's songs, I'm not saying which). I completely agree with you on the Ziggy thing, it's just to cute for mr. Metal man. And chaos, that did kinda bug me too, but I think they did that because it's not his real name. No promises with KOS-MOS after all this is an RM2K3 game.
Here are the playable characters as of now:
*= already exists in the Xenosaga universe
Rubedo*
Nigredo*
Albedo*
Kirsch
Péche
secret name
secret name
Robedo
Asher
'
'
On a side note, I heard that Xenosaga's sequal's battle system will have the ability to change characters during battle FFX style.

Can you say "Japan"? That's what they do to names, if I was born in Japan my name would probably be:
Fhqwadsdervanderservick.
Any strong bad fans out there know who I'm talking about. Well... I guess that name is American, but it sounds Japanese.

Names and KOS-MOS***May contain spoiler, I'm not even sure myself if it does or not**
«

Jr. is a false name, his real name is Rubedo. Also you'll notice Nigredo (Gaignun Kukai's real name) and Albedo (you'll see in Xenosaga, or you'll have to wait to play my game) , which all end in: edo. This comes into further detail in my story, as the prelude begins at the Miltian Conflict.
Shion's name is Chinese!?
How strange, her brothers name sounds both Chinese and Japanese, Jin.
KOS-MOS is an acronym for
'Kosmos Obey Strategic Multiple Operation System' or in our terms that would mean *half hour pause to look words up in the dictionary*
I think the ancronym is hint to where the story in Xenosaga.
Kosmos is a secondary spelling for Cosmos
which can mean a lot of things but one definition stood out to me:
"Radiations of great penetrating power, coming to the Earth from outer space"
those of you who have played the game to a certain point know that the U-Tic organization is looking for Earth (as in our Earth), in which the coordinates were lost some time before. Earth seems to have to be unlocked by some Zohar power and the Y-data contained within MOMO. Later in the game when someone (not telling who) steals memories from MOMO, and it seems that KOS-MOS is involved with the Y-data somehow.
Most of you probably know the meaning to Obey.
but here's a definintion just in case.
"To comply with the orders of; to yield submission to; to be ruled by."
It seems KOS-MOS is indeed wandering without paying any attention to Shion. Also this could be refering to the umm... I'll refer it as the KOS-MOS meets the Excorcist incident. Also Chaos says to KOS-MOS at one point, "Now, where is the real you?"
Strategic:
"based on strategy"
Was all this planned out by U-tic, Mizrahi, or Kevin ahead of time?
Multiple:
"manifold; of many parts; repeated many times"
Shion mentions that KOS-MOS has a lot of 'black-box' parts
Operation:
"a method or mode of action"
like i said on Strategic, were all the events planned out, or maybe fated???
System:
"Whole scheme of created things regarded as forming one complete whole"
Wow, this one pretty much confirms Operation and Strategic, I think I know a little more about the story now if the KOS-MOS ancronym's meaning is, well true.
I am so glad I took the time to look up second meanings. It all makes sense now... almost. Gotta play Xenosaga 2 to understand it all. UGH can't wait!
